vmcPlayIt is an add-in for Vista Media Center which provides a front-end interface to the PlayOn digital media server software, supporting both Vista Media Center PCs and Extenders.  The PlayOn server software currently supports Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, CBS, CNN, ESPN, and more (http://www.playonplugins.com) ...

You can find more information about vmcPlayIt, it's requirements, and download the beta version at the following project page:

Woo Hoo !  Great job !
I did have a couple of questions though. Will we be able to run vmcnetflix and the vmcplayit side by side until all the bugs are worked out?
Do you have to use silver light to run vmc playit ?

    Thanks again !

    Couldn't wait :)

Installed and everything works fine on vista 64

I get the " Can not play video " error on the extender though. Receiving this error for all, netflix, Hulu, cbs, ect.

Still have vmcnetflix installed and that still works. Could this be a conflict?

I installed with no incident on Vista 32 as well. It all works great on the actual VMC machine but I too get the "File type not recognized and cannot play" message on the extender. (DMA2200) I do have the vmcNetflix plugin installed as well. I wonder if there's any way to get the thumbnails for Netflix properly sized instead of squashing them to 4:3 ratio.

My question is will development on vmcNetFlix continue alongside vmcPlayIt or will vmcPlayIt take precedence. The dependency of vmcPlayIt on the ~$40 PlayOn server software is somewhat off-putting with respect to vmcNetFlix which has no such requirement.

I’m just hoping that vmcNetFlix doesn’t get lost in the shuffle.

vmcNetFlix and vmcPlayIt are completely separate applications and should be able to run both w/o issue.

Silverlight is not a requirement for vmcPlayIt, but might be for PlayOn - not sure.

    vmcNetFlix should not be conflicting.

I was streaming to a xbox360 via the media center extender interface w/o issue when testing this ... is anyone able to verify this working (or not working) using the XBOX360 media extender?

Is this supposed to work on extenders?

I'll need to look at the extender issue ... wondering if it's having issue with the stream format.

As for the thumbnails, that's an issue I plan to fix ... this was a quick fix since most of the other thumbnails are 4:3 in size.

Tried to play a youtube vid on extender (same error) but the audio started playing back on my pc.
I did not have MC open on the pc either.

I plan to keep providing some limited support for vmcNetFlix to keep it running, but I'm not expecting to extend development any further than it already has.  It is open source ... I'd have no problem having some take the development lead on something.

Yes, I've had success using the XBOX360 media extender ... those with native extenders are reporting an issue with the format, it sounds like.

I had that problem too ... that is also one of the issues reported on the PlayOn forums, so I don't think that is an issue specific to vmcPlayIt.  Try playing a CBS show - I didn't have issues with those.
