    UK Vista Caller ID Modem

I'm planning to try the Vista Caller ID add-in from http://www.vistacallerid.com/

Does anyone know of a modem that will work with British Telecom's caller ID?

    Many thanks

hmm i'm guessing any new recent modem will be able too. But will you need to pay extra to your provider, I'm on virgin media and my home phone supports caller ID but i need to pay to show the number, i'm guessing a modem can't by pass that?

The answer to that is 'Yes' a modem can't give caller id info if your provider doesn't supply it.

Oddly enough I only today fixed up my Vista Media Centre to support caller ID. The modem I got was a Zoom model 3025 but the important part is that you get the 'C' model with the Conexent chipset (so the model number is something like 3025-C). Cost me a massive 99p on ebay.

What I did find was that the caller id function was switched off by default, which seems to be true for most modems. The command to switch it on is (at least for this model) is
    AT+VCID=1
which you can enter in the further intitialisation parameters field on the modem properties page in device manager.

Works perfectly coupled with Vista Caller ID.

    Thanks for the info guys.

We do already have Caller ID here on our home phones - I'm now off hunting for a Zoom 3025!

3025-C remember, there is another version of the same model called (I think) 3025-L which as far as I know simply doesn't have the hardware support for CID.

    Good luck

     Hi,

if you do have problems with your modem allowing caller id - try installing the software provided at http://www.ascendis.com/callerid/callerid.php - this can be used free for a month - however the important part of this software, is that it contains, in its help menu, a diagnostics and fixing utility, which worked wonders with my modem Wink [;)]

My Creative ModemBlaster supports CID. Most modems support this these days but they don't tell you in the feature list.

    Hi

I know this thread is old, but I bought a Zoom 3025 C and I am unable to get it to work with Vista Caller ID. The caller id shows in hyperterminal and in the modem log, but it just won't display on vista caller id.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

PS: hope this is the right place to post this, i am new to this Embarrassed [:$]
