First Impressions: Windows 7 Media Center

I just posted a fairly lengthy post on my blog about Windows 7 and my likes and dislikes with screenshots. Check it out if you feel like doing so and let me know what I missed!

So far I am liking it to. One positive is my local CW33 is now watchable. Under Vista it found the channel but couldn't tune to it. It might be because it is showing the subchannels.

I really like the look of Windows 7 and the way the taskbar works.

As for the libraries, I think this is a great idea and being able to have network folders in them is great.

The only thing that does annoy me is the fact that it takes an age to load up the Movies strip in MCE. I can't believe that there are extra settings I need to change as it "should" remember my library content as default.

Anyway, so far this is my only gripe about it, but then i am only using it in the living room as a media center.

I love the way the Windows 7 Media Center looks. From the New taskbar and the Live concerts, to the quick launch menu guide as a sidebar gadget. Looking forward to extending it to other tvs in my home. Highly recommended.

I noticed on mine (not my XPS 420 with CableCARD) that it was not able to install PlayReady and I believe that has to be installed for CableCARD to work. Mine gave me some kind of error during TV Signal Setup. Do you remember seeing this as well?

I see this error, too. It says that Windows Update is not configured to support this service, or something like that. May be a beta issue.

I'm runnning a clean installation of Windows 7 on a Mac Mini, using a Pinnacle PCTV HD Pro with Comcast Digital Starter cable.

Install Playready before you run MC setup.  You can get it from the MS website.
