    automatic updates

Doesn't it seem that, if VMC is working well, you should disable automatic updates for Media Center and Vista?

that depends if you want critical updates to patch security holes, and other issues. But if you aren't worried about that, then you might as well, since some updates have been known to cause problems.

I would disagree with that. Yes, some updates have been causing issues and those won't be the last ones, but you can always roll back to a previous restore point or uninstall the update that is causing the problem. It is not worth foregoing the security updates etc. just because the occasional update is causing an issue, IMO. What I have done on my media center PC is to disable the automatic install and let it download the updates and notify me instead. That way I control when the updates get installed and if there is an issue I know exactly what has changed. All my other PCs and the WHS are set to install the updates automatically and I have yet to have a major issue on any of them due to an update.
