my attempt at Niveus movie library

ok, this is definitely a work in progress, but this is my 1/2 a$$ attempt of a plugin for media center.  Now i have never worked with mcml before or much of C# for that matter.  This plugin is similar to MC Organizer, in which I am using movie collectorz as a front end of creating the xml.

The main screen looks similar to Niveus and my layout of the details is similar to appleTv.  I wish i knew more on how to program all the good stuff.  maybe in the future.  The reason i started trying to develop a plugin with was I liked MC Organizer, but if i wanted to change a few things - waiting for a release.  This i can change at my leisure.

Let me know what you think.

This looks great! I really like the Kaleidescape and Apple TV looks you have integrated.  If you can combine this with the feature and usability of My Movies I would gladly fork over some cash for you higher end version. Keep up the good work.

Looks very Good. Will you be releasing this to the general public?

Have you thought of working with or sharing with any other developers?

The author of myTV is working on myDVD at the moment.  His app will likely automatically scan and add movie titles, letting you confirm via the remote control first, just like myTV does.  If you want to make this a serious app you should look at getting the same sort of functionality (I don't know how you're getting the metadata in there at the moment).  Check out the trial of myTV for a bit of inspiration!  I'm going to purchase it, I installed the demo and was really impressed.

Otherwise, very good work!  I've been thinking about delving into C# and MCML myself, but scared of opening what looks to be a very huge can of worms!

Impressive work I must say, looks brilliant! I have tried to start a VMC movie gallery a few times now, but have always failed to get anything working :-) So kudos to you!

I like the idea that someone mentioned about going open source on one of these movie collectors. Why should we have 10 applications, when we could have one great one?

Keep up the very good work!

Thanks for everyones replies.  I would like to spend a little more time to tighten up the code before releasing it to the general public - since this was my first mc app, the code needs some refactoring.  I would like to add in some more performance changes as well as catagories at the top of the main page - giving the users the ability to select movies my genra or by what movies marked as watched or not.

Because I am new to developing this type of application, I would welcome any outside collaboration.  I also do not have a problem with releasing the source code, making the project open source - I would have to find out how exactly to do that, whether it is through sourceforge or some other method.

Like I said, I liked other video apps that were available, however this gives me more control.  I also thought that learning a new language would just add to my resume.  Also, I don't need something too high tech and this is just enough to browse my library and launch a movie.  Because this app depends on a 3rd party app (Movie Collectorz), that is the only requirement that I am aware of at the moment.

Yeah, there's a lot of these apps springing up at the moment, and none of them quite work in the way that I'd want them too.  It's a shame a lot of development effort is spent re-inventing the wheel when if they were all working together we would have now achieved awesomeness!

By the way you need to come up with a name for your app if you can think of something that hasn't already been taken!

does anyone know of a plugin that will work with visual C# express and sourceforge's CVS?  Or have any tips on the best way to ge this code deployed there?

there really should be more open source media center projects to keep stuff going.  I would happily contribute to something like this.  You should start a project on sourceforge or google code or some other similiar site that can do version control.

I wish someone would make a plugin for DVD Profiler...

some way to use the backup file and add a menu to see what movies they have...

I have over 1000 movies and bluray and would love to not have to open a seperate program to get to it... just to look to see what I have and show others so they can pick a movie... maybe even with genre tabs, or actor lookup...

nice start though I'm glad people are trying... wish I knew what I was doing....
