AVerMedia Technologies, Inc is commited to support more product with Clear QAM support for Media Center and I posted a beta drivers for AVerTV Bravo Hybrid PCIe TV tuner both x32 nad x64 bit and QAM Plug-In for Microsoft Media Center (both XP based and Vista based)

Please install Beta Drivers first, then run AVer_ClearQAM.exe to scan for Digital Channels (Please notice that with this Plug in you can only watch Unencrypted "Clear" QAM Channels, not your Premium Channels. Some of the channels that Plug in will recognized will be Encrypted by your Cable Company and  you cannot see then, you will have to manually removed them from MCE TV Guide. Also you can manually rename Clear QAM Channels in MCE TV Guide.

I have a few questions regarding this card.

First, the data sheet says you should down load the divx codec to record in mpeg4. Two questions from this: First, it was my understanding that Divx was an mpeg4 ASP codec, not an AVC or h.264, so what gives with the h.264 in the description? (is this for the benifit of Fiji down the road? frak, three questions!); Second, is this the free player codec, or the pay for play encoder?

Second, when recording HDTV, either ATSC or QAM, will this card capture 5.1 audio, or will it just capture the stereo stream?

Third, The data sheet says it records Mpeg4 at 320x240.... is that 320x240 only!

Forth, The data sheet mentions "For HDTV (MPEG-2) only ..". Does this mean no HD in Mpeg4?

Fifth, As this card is software encode only, how many can be installed in a system at the rated minimum requirements? I. E., the data sheet claims "For H.264 Recording/ Pentium®4 3.0GHz with HT  (Hyper-Threading) or Equivalent AMD Processor for Analog TV  / Intel Dual Core 1.6GHz or Equivalent AMD processor for Digital HDTV." Is this statement the requirements for a single card?

I'm not sure, but it appears that this does not come with a remote, correct?  Will either the MCE upgrade kit or the AverMedia Center Remote Control Kit work with this?

The retail box of AVerTV Bravo Hybrid PCIe tuner doesn't come with remote control. however you can purchase Remote Control from our webstore.

For Media Center, we are offereing a standart MCE remote control kit. For AVer Media Center we sell a separate remote control kit for $19, this remote only works with AVerMedia products and only in our application

I got mine woking in vista home prem. 64bit.
Can vista media center see both the QAMand the analog tuner? I know it can only view 1 at a time.
If this would work with SAGETV I would be in heaven.

Drivers with the CD didn't work at all.  I couldn't pick up any OTA channels; though, Windows MC said signal strength was great on all channels.  Analog stations wouldn't work with either Windows or Aver MC.

The Beta drivers on the FTP site allow me to get a picture with analog & digital channels, but quality is very poor.  Digital stations have very choppy video & audio, a lot of pixalization, and sometimes cause system crashes.  Aver MC analog stations have a very loud scratching/thumping noise.

Here are my specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q6600  @ 2.40GHz

Memory: 4GB DDR2 RAM

DirectX Version: DirectX 10

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT, 512 MB

 

Any help?  I'm leaning on returning the card.

I'm building a new system and I picked the AVerTV Bravo card because of the PCI-E x1, QAM support and the Beta drivers that work fine for VMC. My problem is that using these drivers, VMC or SageTV or AVerTV cannot pick any OTA channels (shows very low signal). The very same input used on a ATI 650 card I have in a different system, gives about 90% signal for most of the channels (at least the ones I want).

Is there a problem with OTA signal when using the beta drivers? Should I go back to the non-beta drivers until newer drivers come out? BTW, I never used the drivers from the CD, so I'm not sure if this will work - I just want to find out if anybody knows of a problem/limitation with the beta drivers.

Of course, you will ask why use OTA when you have QAM? Some clear QAM HD channels don't work or have problems with the playback (ABC HD for example). This might be a problem with the signal I have at this outlet (long cable run), but I can't do much about it. Another reason for wanting OTA is that in the event the cable doesn't work, I still have one TV source.

Quick update: using the 1.3.0.44 driver (non-Beta), OTA signal works fine. The Beta drivers do not work with OTA signal. I guess I will hold off until a new version with QAM and OTA support is available.

This drivers is a latest Windows Vista Certified drivers ( for Vista x32 bit-version 1.3.0.60, for Vista x64 bit version 1.3.64.60). This drivers release support Analog/ATSC/Clear QAM support/

In this drivers we added a support of Analog TV tuning for recent Microsoft TV Pack release.

Just downloaded this last night.  Here's what I've found

ClearQAM:  Works.  You have to manually set up your tuner, but once you specify ClearQAM VMC finds everything.  I'm getting visual errors in each channel that I can't quite solve.  I had the cable guys out yesterday and reworked the system to eliminate the oversplitting issues I had.  I'll troubleshoot this later.

NTSC: Video comes in well,  but audio is fluctuating.  It has a wierd screen door effect like someone is hitting a mute button 20 times a second. 

ATSC:  Can't tell you.  I've not run the coax to get the house antenna to the room this pc is in yet.

Otherwise this is great!  Some assistance to resolve the visual issues would be appreciated.  As a ATSC / QAM tuner it's working.

Drivers work fine for Analog TV with the VMC TV Pack. Do you have plans to add Clear QAM/ATSC support for the Bravo with TV Pack?

If I purchase the AVerTV Bravo Hybrid PCIe tuner, will I be able to use the clear QAM with media center that has had the SP1 update?  Or do I have to purchase a upgrade copy of media center premium with SP1 included.........

Clear QAM reception should work if you use the beta drivers and use the tool that Felix posts earlier in this thread. Service Pack 1 shouldn't affect this functionality. It's the TV Pack 2008 which is an OEM release (not a standard service pack) that appears to hinder Clear QAM functionality in VMC.

Great news!  ClearQAM works great on the h788 bravo card!  After reinstalling the drivers I discovered AverMediaCenter was installed.  After removing everything, installing the TV Pack drivers, and then redetecting the channels I found that HD was comming in perfectly!

If you are in the market for a ATSC / ClearQAM card only for PCI 1x I have to say the Bravo isn't bad for $50.  Felix and his crew work hard on drivers for us. 

Though if you are looking for more I would recomend getting a 780.
