    mcedev.com - TV Toolbox

I've been using TV Toolbox from mcedev.com but the trial expired 31-Dec-07.
Does anyone know how to extend the trial? Seems the developer is not updating his site - he's probably busy with other stuff at the moment.

Or is there an alernative to TV Toolbox? Basically I just want to trim the lead-in and lead-out of a few dvr-ms recordings before I use Vista Media Center to burn the files to DVD.

    Re: mcedev.com - TV Toolbox

TV Toolbox appears to be one of the only dvr-ms edit application for those of us who have OCUR systems.   Since it runs as a media center application/service, it can natively process the encrypted streams.

[if it could output un-encrypted video ... that would be heaven]

I use it to trim all of my premium content movies [HBOHD, SHOHD, etc.] recorded from the OCUR and it works great.

It actually allows you to edit the content?!?!  The fact that it is a native service shouldn't mean anything.  Can you confirm that you are actually using it to edit shows recorded from a CableCARD?  Can you take a screenshot?

Been doing this for months now.    My setup is an HP M8010y with dual DCTs and no ATSC tuner.    Absolutely works.    All of the recorded content is from the Cablecard, and TV Toolbox allows me to edit the premium content and drop out the recorded pieces before and after movie.   Leaving just the movie.

What cable company do you have?  I remember reading something about Fios users shows not being encrypted at all, I don't understand how but that's what they said...

That acutally would not matter as it is still wrapped in WMDRM in the OCUR.

Chris, Jeff Griffin just confirmed that he can edit OCUR.

... can't say that I am surprised by the independent verification ... but this does raise my stock at TGB

I can confirm that you can edit cablecard content with this app.

I was able to edit HBO's The Wire with no problem, works pretty quickly also.
Tried to use the built in conversion to another format, but didn't work, no surprises there.
    My cable company is comcast.

Any plans to throw in commercial detection?

There are two things I plan to get ready for the next version:

    1. Commercial Detection:

Commercial Detection is very important since it will certainly make things easier + you could combine it with the rules you can already create. Automatically detection of commercials + conversion.

    2. Improving UI

Right now I am not really satisfied how the edit screen looks like. I know there are users who are confused because of some details on that part and I think there is still some space for improvements - hope to get some feedback here! ;-)

    Thanks,
    Olcay

    Olcay,

Excellent work!  I installed this last night after reading Chris' blog.  First off I love the interface and it works really well within Media Center.  I was even more surprised at the speed.  It seems to be much quicker than other programs in the past.

As far as the commercial detection, it's a feature I'd love to have.  One issue though I've had in the past is with recordings for the kids.  The cartoon's never seem to be edited correctly with commercial detection, is this something that can be fixed through the rules, or can I hope that the app itself will do a better job at this?

    Thanks!
