Launch MCE directly into Live TV

I have been searching the forums and so far I have found nothing.  If someone knows the answer or could point me to a forum post that discusses this question, that would be great.

My question:  Can you configure MCE to launch directly into Live TV instead of the default menu?  I want to be able to press the green button to launch my MCE Extender and instead of having the menu come up and select Live TV I want Live TV to just start since that is the primary use.  Preferably it would start up the last channel viewed but that is not a huge deal.

There is such a great MCE brain trust here already I know the answer is here somewhere.  Thanks everyone for all the help you have already given me but did not know!

    Wow.  Nothing.....

I had always thought that this was going to be possible and it was just a matter of coming to this forum and finding the information.  Now, I am having serious doubts that this is possible.  Anyone out there know for sure?

I use MCE Standby Tool which is a small addon program to do exactley what you want and many other things besides.

    Hope this helps

I offer not a real a solution within media center, but I just programmed my Harmony remote to automatically select Live TV after turning my TV and receiver on.

So it basically just appears in live TV when my TV turns on.

Both of these look like good solutions.  I will have to try the software route first since I haven't bought my Harmony remote yet.  I didn't think about doing a macro on the harmony.  Man I can't wait to get that thing.

I will try MCE standby tool and let you know how it goes.  Thanks so much!!

    %SystemRoot%\ehome\ehshell.exe /HOMEPAGE:VideoFullscreen.XML /PUSHSTARTPAGE:TRUE

That will do it, but you need a remote that you can program for a command (eg. Harmony).

Re: Launch MCE directly into Live TV

I was just going to ask if the MCE Standby tool would work through the extender as that will by my main experience.

So now my question is will either one of these solutions work through my 360?  This will definitely increase my WAF as I roll this out in my house.

Thanks again for all the help!!!

    Ditto.

Setup the X360 to auto boot into Media Center, get a Harmony for every TV room in the house.  Too easy.  Talk about WAF with that.

Ok, so I think I am going to go the Harmony route.  Which one are people getting?  Are you using the one branded for xbox 360 or a different one?

Pretty much any of them will work.  It mainly comes down to how many devices you want to control.  I have the Harmony 880 which is great but now that I'm down to my Receiver, TV, and 360/Extender, I almost wish I had gotten a more basic one.  The more expensive ones control more devices, not as in the type of the devices, just the overall number of devices it can support.  For instance the Harmony 880 as much more room on it's LCD screen for devices, has a color lcd screen, compared to the lower cost ones with smaller non color LCD screens.

One thing I gotta say is their Remote Setup tool is very nice!  I even have it controlling my Lutron IR Light Dimmer for my room :)

That will do it, but you need a remote that you can program for a command (eg. Harmony).

    Chris,

Where would I program that custom command?  Currently I just have it going to the Media Center Menu.

    Thanks,

Probably the easiest way would be to edit the shortcut to Media Center with that info there.

Re: Launch MCE directly into Live TV

Ok, so I went and picked up the Xbox 360 Harmony remote today.  Is there a thread on here that details how to setup the Harmony to work with the 360 as a media center extender?

I've gotten a few tips from this review here: Review: Harmony Remote for Xbox 360

Can anyone provide any help on this?  What do you mean by the shortcut to Media Center?
