Re: NetflixMC WatchNow MCE plug-in Development
mendelrat:I briefly looked around, but am I the only one getting consistent crashes when I try to start the plug-in from MCE 2005? I'm running Ver. 5.1.2715.3011 Update Rollup 2, on a Pentium D 3.2 ghz w/ 2 gig ram. The service starts up fine and shows up in the task bar, and it is able to login and plays the credits of the Superman cartoon ok, but always crashes when I go into MCE and try to start it, I get this error:
Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting Event ID: 5000 Description: EventType clr20r3, P1 presentationhost.exe, P2 3.0.6920.1109, P3 470bc926, P4 system.deployment, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 471ebf80, P7 6bc, P8 0, P9 system.unauthorizedaccess, P10 NIL.
I've checked that .NET 2 & 3 SP1 are installed, as well as .NET 3.5, and I'm fresh out of ideas short of killing .NET and reinstalling. Thanks for any and all help, and I can't wait to get it up and running!
When did you install 3.5? Did this error come from Event Viewer? Was this a popup? Was this in the MCE window? Does it crash when you go and run this? C:\Program Files\NetflixMC\NetflixMC Plug-in\NetflixMC.xbap It should open up in Internet Explorer.

I've got 2 v1 extenders if you need testers. I'm interested in testing out the changes if you're sharing for the v1 extenders, too.

Were you able to resolve this? I get similar behavior.

Re: Netflix WatchNow MCE plug-in Development
lifterus:The acquiring license shouldn't happen more than once. This is a DRM issue with the Netflix player and has nothing to do with the plugin. I'd call Netflix and tell them what's going on (using IE, not the plugin of course). .
finally got around to calling netflix on this one. had to go into media player and to to options, then under the privacy tab there is a checkbox that says "download usage rights automatically when i play or sync a file" it was unchecked. so i checked that box and clicked ok and then all was well in netflixland.
i thought i woudl post this in case anyone else if having a similar problem.

Re: NetflixMC WatchNow MCE plug-in Development
gobanjoboy: mendelrat:I briefly looked around, but am I the only one getting consistent crashes when I try to start the plug-in from MCE 2005? I'm running Ver. 5.1.2715.3011 Update Rollup 2, on a Pentium D 3.2 ghz w/ 2 gig ram. The service starts up fine and shows up in the task bar, and it is able to login and plays the credits of the Superman cartoon ok, but always crashes when I go into MCE and try to start it, I get this error:
Event Source: .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting Event ID: 5000 Description: EventType clr20r3, P1 presentationhost.exe, P2 3.0.6920.1109, P3 470bc926, P4 system.deployment, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 471ebf80, P7 6bc, P8 0, P9 system.unauthorizedaccess, P10 NIL. ...
I installed 3.5 a few days ago, before I installed NetflixMC since I realized I hadn't installed it yet. It wouldn't install via WU, so I instead downloaded the package from MS and installed it manually without it complaining about anything. The info I posted came from Event Viewer, but two popups do appear containing roughly the same information. I just noticed that they are slightly different, so I took a screenshot and posted it here at http://astronomy.nmsu.edu/rthamilt/wpf_errs.jpgIE popped up, but then but crashed in the same way. #1 shows up first, then #2 shortly thereafter. The screenshot I took are actually from that crash. "View the contents of this error report" was empty for #1, but #2 gave a lot more info that I don't know how to get to (can't just copy and paste, thanks MS!).

If so then yes.
It happens because for some reason .MCL File Association is not set correctly for .NET process starting.
To fix this.
Open Explorer Go to Tools->Folder Options Go to tab "File Types" In the "Registered file types:" box find extension MCL... if is is set, reset it so "Open with:" is blank. Now Click the "Advanced" button If there isn't an "open" action create it. The "open" action should have the following values
Action: open Application used to perfom action: C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehshell.exe "%1" Use DDE: Checked DDE Message: Application: ehshell DDE Application Not Running: Topic: System

Re: NetflixMC WatchNow MCE plug-in Development
Are you sure to did not install a Beta version of 3.5? Form googling this error code it seems it comes from missing dlls. You might try running DependencyWalker for C:\Program Files\NetflixMC\NetflixMC Plug-in\NetflixMC.exe and see if it finds any missing dlls. http://www.dependencywalker.com/depends22_x86.zip

You lost me... you are getting this error also?
That's it! It plays now. So in summary I had 2 problems stopping me: 1) I needed to set in Windows Media Player to "Download usage rights automatically..." 2) Needed to change the MCL file type to open options you specified. It was set to something else that I couldn't edit, so I deleted it and created it new.
