Re: Vista wont see my other tv
Try just "iVideoSource"=dword:00000001"
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig\iVideoSource "iVideoSource"=dword:00000001

Re: Vista wont see my other tv
I am building a new barebones VMC for my bedroom this weekend and wnt to see Recorded TV from the Den VMC and the WHS. It will not have any tuners in it, So, if I Regedit the fake tuner, what else do I need to do to the barebones VMC? How about the Den VMC?

Assuming that the Den VMC is running Vista Ultimate, see Mike Brown's sharing instructions here. If it's running Home Premium, someone can tell you what the necessary Reg edits are (in place of the Group Policy settings.)
Regardless of what the Den PC is running, follow the WatchedFolders instructions for the barebones.

yah thanks for the info i used the GPO to update the info i fail to understand why it is not in home premium and you were asking what you needed the link and this Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\TVConfig] "iVideoSource"=dword:00000001 "iBroadcastStandard"=dword:00000001 "fHasSTB"=dword:00000000 "fHasDVB"=dword:00000000 "Version"="65537"

Re: Vista wont see my other tv
The name of the OS says why: it's Home Premium. Group Policy is intended (primarily) for an Active Directory Domain, and is therefore only in Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate (as it's the everything & the kitchen sink edition.)
The only reason that MCE 2k2~2k5 had it was that they were a superset (built off) of XP Pro. Therefore, the functionality was still there.

Re: Vista wont see my other tv
Thanks. All my clients are Vista Ultimate so I will build the VMC-BR this weekend and see if I can get it to play Recorded TV from the VMC-Den and WHS!

Re: Vista wont see my other tv
OK..got the new VMC built and running fine in my bedroom. I added one analog tuner card and hooked it to the basic cable just for TV setup. I am getting the Recorded TV streamed from my WHS fine just as in the Den. The Recorded TV from the VMC-Den is showing up in the Video Library, however. No thumbnails and it only plays the audio portion of the file.
The Registry edits for the VMC-BR are as follows: \\Server\Recorded TV\ (this works) \\Mediacenter\k\Recorded TV\ (this is showing up in Video Library) The Recorded TV on VMC-Den is on the "k" drive, an external 300gb USB drive for now. I have a replacement 750gb drive on the way that will be instlled as the "e" drive in the next few days. So, something needs tweaking somewhere! Any ideas?

Re: Vista wont see my other tv
Those regedits are in the WatchedFolders key (HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording) on VMC-BR, yes? You restarted after you modified (actually, you should have needed to create) the key? And, I take it that the external USB drive on Mediacenter is shared out as 'K', right?
