Yeah it looks like contacting Tim is my last option. I wanted to try and avoid that figuring he probably get a bazillion emails an hour. But if you say he is responsive I will give it a try. The only contact I could find for him is his email address at comcast dot net. If you happen to have your contact method handy I'd sure appreciate it.

I just downloaded and installed Tim's wonderful msi package and have been playing around with it.  After reading his faq I was able to successfully change channels via firewire including channels above 999 (required registry change).  I have a different problem now and I have not seen any other posts dealing with this same problem.

I can tune to an HD channel (which shows in SD through media center). Once I start recording the HD channel, I get a BSOD about 5 seconds afterwards.  It's only on the screen for about a second so unfortunatlely I don't have any details from the BSOD.  Below is my tuner.log.  I can't seem to make heads or tails of it but I hope someone can.  Additionally, once the PC reboots, the HD show I attempted to record is not in recorded tv or in the fire subfolder which leads me to believe that neither media center or mytray recorded anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Whenever I reboot I have to unplug my Motorola STB from the PC and plug it back so that Windows finds it. If I forget then mytray records whatever is playing on the current channel.

Does anybody know of a utility that will scan the ports and find the STB everytime I log in? I'm tired of recording the wrong stuff :-(

Are you trying to make a live recording? The program doesn't support that. Try a scheduled recording and see what happens.

EDIT: Oops, sorry, wrong about that. You can make a live recording; you can't watch LiveTV with it. My bad. Never mind.

I got a little further this time.  No BSOD.  However, it still didn't record via firewire.  Media center recorded SD as normal.  It appears mytray tried to start recorded but was unsuccessful for some reason.  Again, I'm not sure what the log file means.  The relevant section is below.  I really appreciate the help so far.

ERROR - Could not load file, 80070002 ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

I have gotten even further now.  I have a fusionHDTV 3 card and thought it might be interfering somehow even though it wasn't showing up in the tuner list so I disable it in device manager.  I also uninstalled and reinstalled firestb.  It appears that mytray attempts to record now because I see a "fire" recording in the list during recording.  If I try to watch it while recording I get a black screen with no sound.  After the recording stops the file appears to be deleted.  The error in the log file in bitrate too low.  I'm not sure if the problem is a driver or if my stb simiply isn't transmitting the stream.  Does the log file below tell me anything for sure?  Again thanks for your help.

Where are the instructions on how to enable or install firestb as a Windows service?

I remember this being mentioned a few times but can't seem to find anything.

To run MyTray as a service, from the command prompt:

"mytray /install"

will install it as a service

"mytray /remove"

will uninstall it

You can still run mytray as normal but it is used only to display status and for configuration. You will need to reboot after installing it as a service.

The original message is buried somewhere in the hundreds of pages in the original thread.  It's not very manageable to search and find.

My Tray changes the channel and says its recording. But all I get is a 14kb file?

Hi guys, I tried my best to go through everything but I havent seen a solution.

I have a haupapge pvr-150, and a Motorola 6200 stb connected to my vista rc1 box.
My tray recognizes the tuner, enable recordings is on.
Chanell changing ussing chanel.exe works great.
Inside MCE however, there aqre no hd recordings, and channel changing on the stb box does not seem to work.

The logfiles dont get updated, and mytray doesnt sayt anything about recording (i saw a screenshot where it apparently does that).
Any advice?

Rudy,- Like you, I have a Sony KDSR50XBR1 television. Like you, I plugged one of TV's firewire ports inot my PC, which like yours, is XP Pro, SP2 and no MCE. However, unlike your PC, only one device appeared as "Found New Hardware" which was "KDSR50XBR1." XP did not find, nor could I find any device driver that sucessfully matched the KDSR50XBR1 device.

What drivers do (or did) you have installed for the three new devices (AV/C panel. AV/C display and  KDSR50XBR1) the appreared when you plugged the Sony KDSR50XBR1 firewire port into your PC's firewire port?

I have a couple of Motorola 6200 STBs, and I can't get MyTray to see both of them.   Well, it can see both of them, but thinks I only have one SD tuner installed.

I have a PCI-based Hauppage MCE-150 and a USB-based Hauppage PVR2 external tuner.  Of course Media Center sees both tuners and works fine, but the MyTray application doesn't seem to recognize the USB tuner as being legitimate.  (though it will happily report anything that is playing or recording on that tuner.)

 

What gives?  Is this only made for PCI-based tuners?

    Found an odd issue with syncing tv to my new Toshiba Gigabeat S.  Conventionally recorded SDTV shows are downloaded fine to my Gigabeat, but I get an unspecified error when I try to transfer an SDTV show recorded via firewire.  Any ideas what's going on?  Is there any way to configure the recorder so that only HD channels are recorded via firewire?
