If anyone else wants to kick MCE/ VMC - try any of the UPnP clients such as XBMC and use Mediamall's playon or Boxee. XBMC + Playon has worked well for me with pretty good responsiveness. If you want to use the Media Center remote, install IR Server Suite and keep the translator running when you use XBMC on your Windows computer.

Heres another vote for a VMC plugin soon!!

The only way to get it on a PC may be to get Boxee when it's released for PC (Fall according to their website)

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

I created an alternative to the original Hulu RSS feed and to the original Hulu web page that shows the video player for a given show.

In my web page, the video player dominates the browser entirely (similar to when you do "Pop Up").

My RSS feed is simply a copy of the original Hulu feed where the links to their page have been replaced with with links to my page.

I used Yahoo Pipes to create my feed. Here's the address of my Pipe:
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/pipe.info?_id=qp2TB1jC3RGJhAI_QBJ3AQ

Kinda of have Hulu in Media Center

I subscribed to the individual show's rss feed on Hulu in IE.

Open rss feed with Vista RSS Reader for MCE.

When its opens the page it will automatically play the video.

You can log into Hulu and default shows to 480p under your profile.

Issue is I can not find a way to default video to full screen. Also no pause/FF/Rewind control.

I want a remote control solution.

Thanks for the tip on the RSS reader - that actually works pretty good! For full-screen, you can hit "F" and for pause/play, you can hit "space", but unfortunately, the video itself has to be selected - and I can't figure out a way to make that happen without using the mouse. Hmm.....

Edit: It works! I have no use for my number keys, so I reprogrammed them to be

1=Left mouse click

2=Space

3=F

0=ESC

Up and down arrow provide volume support when NOT in full screen. When in full screen, you can't control volume (I can't). I have to disable hardware acceleration for it to work, too, but that's a flash problem.

Can't Hulu be added to Yougle ? (maybe someone just needs to create a plug in)

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

IgnoranceIsBliss (author of Yougle and a TGB user) would be able to answer to you in more detail, but, essentially, the current obstacle to adding Hulu to Yougle is that the URL of the Hulu videos is not known. The URL of the Flash player configured to display a given show is known, but the URL of the actual video seems to be a well kept secret by Hulu.com.

See also this forum thread, from Yougle web site:

http://push-a-button.com/community/index.php?topic=27.0

Anyone with information about that URL issue, please post it here on this TGB thread.

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

I managed to intercept the following SMIL file for a Hulu show:

http://releasegeo.hulu.com/content.select?pid=sG0EfF3s5EKlKkogxA78P_u_uUnYrZZw&mbr=true&format=smil

It contains the rtmp URLs of the individual segments in that The Daily Show episode.

Here's one such URL (remove the line breaks):

rtmp://cp39465.hulu.com/ondemand/?auth=daEcbdMbGa1d1aFbYaXdlancgakbQa_aFdT-bjoTYk-c0-
XqNCtCq1Dxn&aifp=NS20070910&slist=content/43972/12/968/HuluTranscode_55469_
50616_FLASH_700K_4x3_29_97__iAzjTN9aHEWwGh25iYsb1w;.international=false<break>
content/43972/12/968/HuluTranscode_55469_50616_FLASH_700K_4x3_29_97__iAzjTN9aHEWwGh25iYsb1w

The problem I have now is to understand the relationship between all the different ID's used in different places to indicate the same show:

• If you just navigate through Hulu.com to the Daily Show of Dec 4, it seems the number 47436 is an episode ID: http://www.hulu.com/watch/47436
• If you then look at the source for that page, you will find a content_id of m1pm81al.
• If you look at that episode's entry in the series RSS, the id 47436 does show up in some attributes, but the m1pm81al ID does not. However, a new ID shows up that can be used with the embedded player: vFFLwBs6FHz1t7kJPrmKPw. (That's the informaton I use in my Yahoo Pipes technique mentioned a couple of posts ago.)
• If you monitor the HTTP requests of the Hulu flash player (using Firebug), you see vFFLwBs6FHz1t7kJPrmKPw being used to fetch a lot of XML information about the episode: http://r.hulu.com/videos?eid=vFFLwBs6FHz1t7kJPrmKPw&include=video_assets .
• In that video-assets file an additional ID (!) comes up, under the element <pid>. However, I have no idea of how to go from all the information above to the URL of what seems to be the most important file of all for Yougle integration: the SMIL file.

If anyone wants to help crack this puzzle, or if IgnoranceIsBliss is reading this thread, please contact me here: http://mmartins.com/mmartins/contact.asp , or post to this thread. Thanks in advance.

Note to people from Hulu.com reading this: please note that there is no pleasure or financial incentive in trying to reverse-engineer your protocol. If/when you release a VMC plug-in, I will gladly use it; I would even pay for the plug-in in addition to watching your commercials.

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

I tried some of the rtmp streams from the SMIL file on push-a-button's RTMP Demo page, but without success:

Has anyone tried MCEBrowser yet? Version 2.2 is old but seems to work just fine on my VistaMCE box. I haven't tried it and Hulu via an extender yet. The original download link is borked but I found it here: http://is.gd/aVjV

I am going to try it on my other machine with extender tonight. If anyone else tries it, report back.

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

If you are interested on a specific TV series from Hulu, and not on a random episode/clip/movie, you will have a better experience using "Vista Media Center RSS Reader". It is possible to watch Hulu on MCEBrowser without a mouse, but it is VERY cumberesome. If you configure a button in your remote to be the "f" key and follow RSS details in post #314353, you won't need a mouse.

I guess I could try it again but that RSS reader didn't work for me before. Kept asking for authorization no matter how many times I entered my code.

I too had the authorization problem with Vista Media Center RSS Reader. I just tried again with a new email address and it worked that second time.

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

This works well but I guess your tube doesn't keep me logged ino hulu? Do you know a way I can use your tube for hulu and stayed logged into hulu so my videos will default to 480p?

Thanks

You are right, the MCEBrowser works...kinda. Pain to use. I haven't yet tried the RSS reader and your Yahoo! pipe. I did some poking around on Hulu and found something kind of interesting. Haven't yet got the RSS reader set up but others that do might want to try this. Append the feed name with ?enclosures=1

Example:
The RSS feed for SNL clips is http://www.hulu.com/feed/show/77/videos
Append that feed to be: http://www.hulu.com/feed/show/77/videos?enclosures=1

It gives you a shockwave video that is full screen and hosted by Hulu.

This might be useless but could be worth a try.

Re: Hulu.com anyone?

Ok I got the RSS reader working and mmartins original Yahoo pipe work around. I can play the videos via my extender but I have no sound. Don't know what that is about. Other draw back, via an extender, is when you have a feed like your personal Hulu queue, login is required and there is no keyboard.
