Re: Recording canceled/stopped due to Copyright restrictions (Part 2)

RandyG -- the Vista fixes were suppose to be for...

"The solution in these updates apply to systems either with or without set-top boxes and address the scenario with incorrect or improper CGMS-A broadcasts. "

I experience this with my current system XPMCE without Set Top on analog cable even after the summer XP patch.  According to the spec  (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms788137(VS.85).aspx) I should not be getting these off of a 30 second or less commerical in a half hour or 1 hour show.

Hopefully this will fix it...  Will try tonight but due to unpredictive nature I may not know for days.

Tim said he would advise us when the patch is available.  I can't believe he would have taken the time to response all these times before and abondon us now.  A patch described (no set-top box) is not going to help my problem.  Let's stay tuned and ask for an update and clarification from Tim. Hopefully the promised patch for MCE 2005 for this damn Restricted Content problem is still in the works.  Regards, Steve

I downloaded and applied "http://msmvps.com/blogs/chrisl/archive/2008/11/25/1655059.aspx", since it was released on 11/25/08, hoping that it was just mislabeled as "non settop" box fix.  It did not fix my damned Restricted Content problem (I have a set top box, Dish Network).  I am hoping, and expecting that the promised fix is still on the way. FYI.

    Tim,

I have not seen any evidence of a fix having been released for MCE 2005.  We are still seeing unjustified "Restricted Content" messages.  May we have an update to your last message please?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Today we released 2 udpates that expand the original solution released in June.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955519 applies to all Windows Vista Media Center versions.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956147 applies to systems with the Windows Media Center TVPack.

The solution in these updates apply to systems either with or without set-top boxes and address the scenario with incorrect or improper CGMS-A broadcasts.

These solutions do not apply to systems with digital cable tuners.  For digital cable tuners, the firmware of the tuner provides content protection.

While we know CGMS-A has been one of the reasons behind content protection errors on Media Center, we continue to investigate reports where these updates have not resolved the issue.

    RandyG:

    * sweet *  .   Tim, you are a man of your word, and appear to have provided some long-promised results on this long standing issue :-)

What is the expected release date for the XP-MCE fix?

It's still a bit too early in the release process to have a solid date for the Windows XP Media Center 2005 update.  Unless something drastic shows up in testing, I think it's safe to say that this should be available in weeks rather than months.

<sigh>  ...and now another 2 months go by.   MCE users still waiting.

You know, my first post of a serious Canadian cgms-a problem was right here  Feb 1st, 2007.
And this particular single forum topic has been on top since March 2007.
I wonder if there's some record for the longest basic functionality crippling software bug.  Embarrassing.

    2007 - 2008 - 2009 maybe?    How disappointing.  I don't have anything else to say.

Randy - Isn't it obvious by now that MS hates Canadians?  They have continually refused to support OTA ATSC in Canada, they broke the OTA ATSC hack with TV Pack and they continue to not fix this problem that has been evident for two years.  Come over to the dark (SageTV) side!

I apologize for the delay in responding - I'm just back from an extended vacation over the holidays.

We did release the Windows XP Media Center Edition fix for this issue in Dec.  At the time I was having problems posting to TGB, so Pete Brown posted for me.

    Tim,

Thank you for this update. Pete's post appears to have been on a different thread, so those of us following this issue did not receive a heads up.   I had begun to think bad things about the Media Center team, you and your blood relatives, and Microsoft in particular. For my personal situation, I ran out of patience and upgraded to Vista Ultimate.  I have not seen a re-occurance of the RC screen.

    Regards,

    Steve
