I really hope they don't push it out prematurely even in beta form, so many 3rd party apps are let down starting off by little problems, i'd rather see them do some kind of closed beta before releasing it into the wild.

Well, I kinda have the same idea. We are going to put some extra work into the initial release and then from there on we will make smaller releases more often.

    Good point.

When do you think we'll possibly see the first official release? I'm not asking for a specific date or anything, just to give us an idear of how close you are with the development. Weeks or months?

    Thanks!

We are talking weeks, maximum a single month (easy for me to say as I don't do much development). We could release something now, but we really want to make something that can do something more than the default dvd/video library and something that makes people go "wow".

We could still use a developer or two, so if you have experience with especially MCML or VMC development in general please PM me, look us up on the forum or contact us in another way.

Well, I got it to compile, install and import the MyMovies XML, but I did not have any cover art and the file links were broken.  NOt sure if this is a result if its prematurity or if something else was wrong though.

FYI, My cover art is stored on a NAS, as are all of my movie files.  I use only AVI, MP4 and MKV - no VIDEO_TS folders or ISO images.  Everything in MyMoves is linked using a UNC path name (\\servername\videos\movie.mkv).

I also noticed I did not have the OML.CONFIG file that the instructions says to copy over.

Otherwise, it appeared to function correctly.  Can't wait until it is in a more usable form.

To make things better for OML and everyone, it would be great it everyone who compiles this baby left us a message at either the forum or at Google code, so we can get any bugs fixed.

    I'll do that.

I just came across this topic and wanted to say a big thank you to all involved.  Really looking forward to a simple integrated all-in-one solution that includes functionality for extenders.

    Well, time for another update.
One of the newest, and easiest features to show off, is filtering. A lot of media browsers have filtering by actor, genre etc. but OML doesn't stop by filtering, we have nested filtering. Let me explain. If you have a lot of movies and wan't to watch a movie of a certain genre, filtering by genre still produces a lot of results. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to filter by genre then filter the result by actor and then maybe by director? Or why not filter by actor then filter the result by another actor and a third finding just the movie you want?

    Look at this:

You have a lot of movies

You choose to filter by genre, here action

You get a smaller amount of movies but are still not satisfied

You then choose to filter the previous result by director

    Down to 5 movies

But why stop, let's filter the result by genre again because what you really want is an action comedy

    And voila, nested filtering

    Is that sexy or what?

You have over one thousand movies on your hard drive?  How much space is that taking up?  What format are you storing them in? XVID, VOB?

My setup is, all my dvd's are copied to a raid5 server (3TB space), but I used "DvdShrink" to make the approx 9Gb dvd files smaller to about 4,5Gb a piece before copying...

Man you guys are doing a good job on this thing.  I can't wait for the release to get it up and running - last week I had to do a fresh install and the one thing I forgot to do was back up the mymovies database....Doh!  Really stupid and annoying.  Keep it up.

Wow looking good guys very impressed..

what are the plans for copying the movie to the server\ local PC..

It would be great if you can some how tie in dvd shrink into the mix!!!

It should be as easy as my father just poping in his DVD and OML does the rest.. loads up with metadata, cover art, etc

    would this be possible??

and the last question, what are the plans for the metadata database?? anyone thinking of using the mymovies one.. i know i saw recently that brain will allow 3rd party apps access

Good job.  Where is the release (installer)?

Question: Why does it sort titles with "The" in the title in "T"s?

Ripping DVD's into OML isn't planned yet, but i'll put it on the feature request list.

Agreed. Automatic metadata retrieval is something we are looking into for a later release.

At first we plan on using our own file based metadata database. I can't say whether a sql database will be introduced later. We have been in contact with Brian over at MyMovies and in time we will look into fully supporting the MyMovies database. For now you can simply import the MyMovies database into OML.

OML isn't released yet. But if you know how to operate Visual Studio, you can download the source code and compile it for yourself.

Just please don't do away with the option of sorting by true title name (not ignorning THE, A, AN, etc.).  It's logical to strip it, but it would greatly crap on my wife acceptance factor.  If the title starts with "The", that's where she looks first.  :)

I added the following to the feature requests:

(ON HOLD) Option to omit "The" in movie sorting and displaying
