Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms
Service cannot be started. System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
This error message indicates that it's looking for System.ServiceModel version 3.0.0.0, but the version I have in \Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.0 is 3.0.4506.648. Could this be a versioning issue where the app is looking for an older version of the assembly than I have installed?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms
That might be, although I verified it worked on a system with a version of 3.4506.25. I'll look at the project when I get home later ... I've not had anyone else with the same complain yet - not to say there isn't a problem on my part. Not sure if you can, but you might try to re-install or repair .NET 3.0.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms
Whoops, turns out I didn't have .NET 3.0 installed, I was checking my laptop instead of my HTPC. I guess I got caught up in the confusion while using Remote Desktop. I reinstalled .NET 3.0 and now it seems to be working, as the service starts and stops properly. I can't tell for sure since it won't allow me to play video through Remote Desktop, but I should be able to verify it when I get home from work. Thanks eluttmann1 for your help debugging this!

vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.1 Release
Release Notes Beta 1.0.7.1:
- Added support for Vista Extenders. Also sets up the Extender's user session to share the main VMC NetFlix PC license, typically each new Vista user will use up an extra license - of which NetFlix only allows 4 total (which resets each year in January).
- At this point, Extender support has only been tested on a XBOX 360 and 32-bit Vista OS.
- Moved the storage location of favorites and cached files to a common area so extenders have access.
- Modifications to ease the transition when playing videos.
- Addressed more issues with UI behavior.
Steps to setup extender:
- Uninstall previous version and install new version.
- On Vista Media Center PC, start vmcNetFlix application - during startup, you should see a dialog indicating Extenders can now be setup.
- Then start up the Exender, connect to Vista Media Center PC and start the vmcNetFlix application. You should see a dialog indicating it will setup the extender for streaming. This process launches a web browser which attempts to load the NetFlix player for the Exender session. Once it gets past the "Determining quality" and "big red buffering" screens it will attempt to play the movie (which it cannot). At this point, press "The Green Button" which will end the browser session.
- Start the vmcNetFlix application again, this time it will load to the main menu and you should now be able to play WatchNow or the downloads in WatchLater.
Troubleshooting extender setup:
- When installing, I sometimes encountered a hang during the "Determining quality" screen and the player does not get setup correctly at this stage. At this point, I would press "The Green Button" to terminate the web browser and restart the vmcNetFlix application which will go to the main menu. I added a "Reset Settings" button in the Settings page that will reset the extender settings. Then restart the vmcNetFlix application and repeat steps 3 & 4 above. Once the player works, you should not have to do these steps again on the extender.

No luck so far on the extenders, I can browse the menu's and such but when trying to watch a movie I get "Cannot Play Video The File types is not receognized etc etc etc". This is on a xbox 360, and a DMA-2100.
The app throws up a "Unknown Player" error as well.
Any thoughts?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.1 Release
Can you provide some details when you followed the steps to install the extender? Did you get the dialogs indicating it was attempting to setup the extender for streaming. And did it get past the "Determining quality" and "Big Red Buffering" screens?
The errors you are reporting were what I got when the player didn't get installed correctly. Also, you might try resetting the extender's settings and try again (see the troubleshooting).

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.1 Release
Make sure, after installing version 1.0.7.1, that you first run the vmcNetFlix application from your Vista Media Center PC first, this sets up the ability for the Extenders to load the player ...

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.1 Release
Ok got it now. So the first time I did see the "Determining Quality" screen and then progress stopped. After rerunning it, when the popup comes up to ask to view now or view later, i quickly choose view now, and then the "Determing quality" actually finished and the normal netflix screen came up with "A Space Oddysey 2001" listed.
Awesome, great job!
If it's not working, just reinstall.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.1 Release
Great news! Glad someone besides myself has it working ...
Those popups are a pain, and if you don't choose "view now" it will fail - they have an option to disable them and that worked better for me then when testing. I need to find a way around them... I'm also looking for a way to hide the web browser, but right now it provides a good way of determining the progress of the player install - I tried to make it easy to reinstall the player. All this was done as is so I could get something out to the public - once this part is done, it should be rather seemless.
So, did you get both extenders working? Until now, I only tested on a xbox 360.
Thanks,
- EricL

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.7.1 Release
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned previously but everytime I try to hit the skip forward button on my remote it locks up the extender. I thought I could do this on the PC but maybe I'm mistaken. I also tried fast forward and that locked it up once but that has worked on the extender.

I assume you are referring to hitting skip/ffw while a movie is playing? Since I just released extender support, you are the first to report that =) I've not tried this yet on an extender (although I do have a great deal of experience installing and uninstalling the extender) - I know I have tried this on the PC w/o it locking up. I'll see if I can duplicate it ... was this while streaming or playing a download (or both).
Question, I assume you have the extender working now too?

Working on both, watching Chapelle on the DMA-2100 right now! Even fast forward works.
