I'm wondering how this handles 2-disc DVD's?  Do I have to have separate entries for each disc in the DVD Library?

You'll need 2 separate entries. It's how VMC works, I can't do anything about it.

Love your Library manager works great!

Quick questions, I have recorded some movies from HBOHD and they show up in my DVD Library w/out cover art.  How can I save them in my DVD Library w/ cover art?

I was thinking about burning them to disk and then rip through dvd shrink.  Will that work?

Unfortunately I have not found a reliable way to show cover art and meta data for DVR-MS files (the ones used for recording). I haven't had much time recently to work on this feature but it is still something that I want to develop.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

I've used this program several times before and its always worked well. I just installed a new system here and I installed it and won't save any of my dvd info. It gives me this error.

"Error creating the metadata: Could not find a part of the path" and then it has the path

    "C:\Users\beebo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\eHome"

I checked that folder and there is nothing in that folder even with all the hide hidden and protected files option unchecked

I just now stuck a dvd in and let it read from within media center and then tried again and it worked this time. So it looks like that folder is not created until a dvd is inserted(this being a new build and I already having a number of movies ripped I hadn't put any dvd's in yet)

Thanks for this great program. Wish I knew how to program well, then I could maybe make a frontend for it for inside media center. That would be very nice I think as its the last step into getting the dvd aspect setup to be used all from the remote

Any more thoughts on updating the dvrms metadata?

    Taranu,

I love the program, it does something I had wanted to do for quite some time.  I have a feature that would make it a lot easier to use for some.  I keep my dvd data files (vob etc) in their native home under video_ts of the main dvd directory.  Is it possible to put some intelligence into the search or just not show me video_ts as valid dvd's?  I'm running it on vista's media center.

e.g.: Z:\DVDNAME\VIDEO_TS\ and Z:\DVDNAME\ show in the list, but in media center it shows only the one since there really is only one dvd to the sub directory "DVDNAME"

Perhaps a filter function for a particular name would work if it's easier than having it search the way media center does.

Check the security of the "C:\Users\beebo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\eHome" directory.  Ensure your logged in user can access the directory and the files inside it.  I had the same experience starting it.  Seems to be a vista default to not give rights to that.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

it works fine now I just had to put in a dvd so that vista would create that file. I am betting dvd library manager was just expecting there to be a file there is all, since there usually is as most people put in a dvd, rip it, and then open dvd library manager to label it and such.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

    Taranu,

Any chance we can extend the app to also create an xml file for HD-DVD's and BluRay discs?  My hope is that someone incorporates these discs in their Library manager, then allowing us to use the xml's your DVD Library Manager creates?  All that would need to be done is to also search for *.iso's, and users could add the locations in the additional folders to be scanned section, if they are not withing their normal VMC folders that are being watched.

What are your thoughts?  If nothing else it at least makes it easier to grab cover art.

    Thanks,

    -D

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

As I have said before this is a great little program to help your DVDs show correctly in the DVD library that is built in.

I also wish there was a way to make avi-wmv-mkv-mpg or "name your format here" show up in the dvd library, this would be awsome. I have a few movies done in 1080P converted into mkv's with 5.1 DTS audio, it would be great to be able to list them in the Library and not have to deal with 3rd party programs just to play back HD-DVD or Blu-ray or have them listed with Videos.

Just wish there was a way to do this and don't say My Movies 2, as I tried it and think it took too much overhead for about 25 movies....I also like the built in feature, as it works very well, and it's very simple...

Any chance you might release the source code or formalize development of the application through a project home site (Sourceforge maybe...?). That way bugs and features can be discussed and documented. It also gives some of us freelance developers an opportunity to contribute.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

I am thinking of releasing the code as some point.  I will have to clean it up a little bit before I do that though :-) It started as a personal quick and dirty program...

I am hoping that I can split up the program into different modules which can be used by the Open Media Library ( http://www.ornskov.dk/forum/index.php ) or any other program.

I have just been very busy with my current full time job while searching for another job at the same time (getting bored after 9 years at the same company) so it may take a while until the source will be posted.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

Great simple program.  I am having no problems with my ripped DVD's, but can't figure out a way to edit the DVD's in my Sony Changer.  I found the option to display all of the information, but when I try an edit and select a new cover the program asks me to "save cover art".  The first time I saved it in the default my documents folder as folder.jpg, but when I went to the second movie and tried this again I would have had to overwrite the original folder.jpg.  I tried saving the cover with a different name, but it would not make the link.  Also, I tried saving it in another folder as folder.jpg, but that didn't work either.  Can you help?

Once you select a new country you have to press the Search button again.
