Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Thanks for the registry post Cowboy.  I looked in mine and I have almost nothing under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Video\Tuners.  There is {A799A800-A46D-11D0-A18C-00A02401DCD4} and DVR.  But {A799..} only has one key in it for MaxVideoRate.  I wonder why out of all the drivers I have tried none of them have installed these registry settings.  I'll look around some more.

    Thanks again

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Whoops, I guess my brain wasn't on.  I did regedit on my laptop instead of my workstation.  I usually "remote" admin the workstation from my laptop.  So I checked the same location again, and there were a lot of instances of it trying to find my card.  It seems like every time I run Media Center it adds a new instance, but still returns the same error message.

If there are any instances show of a tuner in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Video\Tuners then when I go to Settings->TV media center crashes.  If I clear out the tuners in the registry then I can go one step further to Settings->TV->Set up TV Signal before it crashes.

    Here is my registry currently:

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Wow, it looks as though it has never been configured at all. I hope my registry listing didn't confuse you too much because it confused me. I assumed when I saw the 2 keys in my registry that represented my 2 tuners. NOT! The first key, {71985F48-1CA1-11D3-9CC8-00C04F7971E0} points to the ATSC tuner(s). The second key, {A799A800-A46D-11D0-A18C-00A02401DCD4} points to the analog tuner(s). So when I sent you everything under the first key you got all the registry settings for both of my digital tuners and nothing for the analog tuners. All that said, looking at your registry listing it seems obvioys that Media Center has not been able to do initial configuration on your tuner. No tuning space has been extablished or configured and all the related parameters are missing. I have no clue as to what is going on. You know the hardware is functional because it works with your other programs. If it were me I would probably try to configure the guide because it seems to me that is the first part of tuner setup. If everything else fails you might try a repair install of windows vista. It might fix the problem and at the worst all you might lose is a few settings. Sorry I can't be of more help. When you do get this thing fixed, and you will, let us know what the problem was.

    Go Griz!!!

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I installed this card in my HTPC and found the analog tuner worked well with Vista Media Center.  I was UNABLE to get the AverMedia Media Center to run without crashing so I wasn't able to check out QAM using Avermedia software.  I use my Panasonic plasma with Comcast QAM and so when I caught this thread I thought I might have a winner with this card.  I'm currently using a Hauppauge HVR-950 USB2 ATSC tuner with an over the air antenna and get great results on most of the network channels in Vista Media Center.

Initially with both the HVR-950 USB2(ATSC) and the AverMedia PCIe card(NTSC) I had no conflicts in Vista Media Center until I installed the QAM Beta and ran the QAM scanning software.  The first time I ran the QAM Scanning program I hit the STOP button after it had found 300 channels and did an EXPORT.  It gave me 300 channels in Vista Media Center guide but all were black without any sound.  I think my HVR-950 ATSC channels were still there but I can't be sure as I was getting tired of scrolling through 300 blank channels.  I  tried to rerun the QAM Scanning program but it crashed after finding about 200 channels.  I saw and heard some of the channels when it was scanning but was unable to see or hear any of them in VMC.  I then removed all of the new QAM Scanned channels in VMC but they would not go away.  I removed the Avermedia PCIe card, drivers, and software and again tried to remove those 300 channels but still the channels were there in VMC.  I re-installed Vista(not a clean boot) and the channels are still there.  Now with only my HVR-950 installed I can only get one OTA channel through the HVR-950 in VMC and 299 QAM channels that are black even though I have removed the Avermedia card.

Any ideas how I can completely clear my VMC settings so I can reinstall my HVR-950 and get my dozen or so ATSC OTA channels back?  I would love a solution that does not include a completely clean install of VISTA as I have couple hundred gig of data I don't want to have to transfer to another drive.  If I can find a way to clean my VMC up and its quick and easy I will continue to try to get the Avermedia PCIe card to work with the Beta QAM but I need my VMC ATSC channels back before I can continue to mess with the Avermedia Beta QAM software.  I'd love to have both the HVR-950 and the Avermedia PCIe working in VMC without 300 black channels listed in my Guide.

It seemed like you could safely clear out all of the settings in the registry under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Video\Tuners] other than DVR.  Just to be safe I would export the Tuners registry folder.  Just right click on Tuners and click export.  You will have to set everything back up for your tuners upon restarting VMC.

I'm not sure exactly how to edit the registry but I suppose Google can show me.

Run regedit (Start->Run->"regedit").  You will see what looks kind of like a bunch of folders.  Just navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Video\Tuners.  You'll get it.  Make sure you get it to export before you do anything though.

Do you really think that removing the tuner from the registry will clear out the GUIDE?  I ask this because after I did a reload of Vista it showed I didnt have any tuners and then when I installed the HVR-950 it had me run through setup for the new tuner.  Problem was it didn't find all the OTA ATSC channels that were there before I started screwing with this Avermedia Beta. But instead the GUIDE was still populated with those 300 Blank QAM channels from the earlier scan.  Is there another registry entry for the GUIDE?  If so maybe I should also delete it.

By the way if I EXPORT where does it go and how do you recover it if needed?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

    Hi,

I was hoping one of you would help me.  I am considering buying this card and I am confused whether this tuner will support recording one ATSC signal while watching another ATSC singal at the same time.  Some of your posts indicated you needed 2 units to record 2 streams, however is it different if I want to watch one stream and record another?  Part of the reason for my confusion is that I saw a review that said you can do this

"Its dual tuners also permit viewing of one program of any kind while recording one or two other programs, but only one each of NTSC and ATSC on the recording side, as its resident tuners should lead you to expect."

Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks

Each card has one ATSC (OTA) tuner and one NTSC (Normal Crappy Cable) tuner.  Recording or watching is the same thing, it's just engaging a tuner.  You can only use one ATSC feed and one NTSC at the same time with one card.  Two cards would be necessary to tape one ATSC while watching another ATSC, likewise with two NTSC.

I'm not positive about the guide.  It might do it though.  About the export, it will ask for a filename and location.  Just save it as "tuner.reg" on the desktop.  If you need to import it back in, just double click on the file and click yes when prompted.  It is pretty easy.

I deleted the two listings under TUNER and left DVR.  Restarted the PC and when I started VMC it told me I had a new tuner card.  I ran through the setup and in the GUIDE I still have those annoying 300 black channels.

Any more suggestions before I do a complete clean install of VISTA?

I'll look into it tomorrow.  Don't go to the trouble of doing a reinstall.  I'm sure the settings are somewhere.  I'm surprised that Felix hasn't chimed in on this one yet.

Is this going to support the A180 at any point?
