More on my issues from a few posts above--the uninstall/reinstall makes no difference.  The only clue I see is when the player crashes on the codec error (asking to reinitialize), if I click "yes", it briefly pops up a Windows error relating to crashing the "Media Center Extensibility Host".
Exact same problem here on multiple extenders.. but my host system is Vista x86. What to do? Should I roll back to 1.028?

I was getting this with 1.1.1.  In testing it did the same the if I went into settings on the local PC without the extender and initialized the movie player. I could not resolve it so I rolled back to 1.0.28 and everything works as before, albeight with the limited browsing issue.

Frankly, if you don't want to be reinstalling, you shouldn't have installed Vista 64.

64 is getting much better, but there are still various incompatibilities and codec issues, not just with this plugin.

Your problems may or may not be with this specific plugin, but may involve other factors, such as codecs. Testing, which does include installing and reinstalling, is the only way to get it sorted out.

    Vista 32 works well.

yeah - I realize one needs to reinstall for troubleshooting purposes, it is just that I have done it so many times, and carefully step by step. The time I have spent is equal to a Roku - but because I am this invested time-wise, I would like to get it to work just on principle.

of course there will be issues with any Microsoft OS - why stop at Vista 64 --  -  -   -   -    >

I am trying to start a whole new thread for  (I guess Vista 32 people are welcome as well) the codec and license error. I have seen many people report these issues and have tried every 'solution' offered with no success (short now of using Vista 32). I guess it can become frustrating because there are so many different issues discussed on this single thread. Maybe if we dedicated one to an issue that as far as I can tell has not been resolved, perhaps we can get somewhere - other than blaming a Microsoft OS.

x86 has issues as well.  For me once the plug in starts it plays the rest of that 'session' great.  I really like this software and appreciate the time and effort the authors have invested.  Your post(s) are a little vague on details as far as your process and for me the process often dictates success or failure.  If I have problems, most of the time (not all) I have to (on the extender (360)) clear the cache, reset the extender, restart the plug in, attempt to start the show and reinitiallize the player twice at the prompt.  I cannot say if x64 has issues but without knowing what you are doing it is hard to correlate that to my personal experiances.  Not that I would probably be able to help, but others might.  Cheers and good luck

What I meant specifically (if you check my earlier posts) was step by step - what is posted by Eric on http://myweb.cableone.net/eluttmann04/projects/vmcNetFlix/default.htm. I am not sure if I can be any more specific than that without adding superfluous detail.

I do agree specific details of the process is integral to troubleshooting and solving an issue.

There is something inherently unstable in the extender portion regardless of the OS although I do wonder if it is 'worse' in x64 and if that is a clue to the underlying problem.  I have seen the same error on something else (although what escapes me at the moment) steaming on the extender that was non vmcNetflix related.

It appears that 'player reset' function is fundamentally broken in v1.1.1. Any attempt to reset player results in '"Media Center Extensibility Host" crash.

Despite much improved browsing capabilities, v1.1.1 is not useable, at least in my setup. I am rolling back to v1.0.28.

I too have rolled back to 1.0.28
Although it takes me up to 4 minutes to bring up movie details on that version, at least after reinitializing the player 5 or 6 times the movies eventually play on my extender.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

Just thought I would chime in and say that I have had the same issues as well.  With the latest rev 1.1.1 file I get the Extensibility error and crash upon player reset on my 360 as well as on my DMA2200.  vmcNetFlix plays just fine on the Media Center box though.  Fortunately I still had the installer from 1.0.28r2 and with this file installed it functions much better.  I do not have the excessive lag that some users are reporting however.
The browser shows more files in 1.1.1 but that doesn't help much if I can't watch a show.
Overall this is a spectacular app and I appreciate the work that made it available.  I never even considered signing up for NetFlix until I saw this here on TGB.

    hey - I was about to download and install v1.0.28 - can't seem to locate a link, just the 2 most recent - just the current v1.1.1 and v1.1.0 - - - >

Can someone send me a link to download or perhaps email one over?

Yep, the previous versions are no longer available on Google and I've deleted all of mine (they were 32 bit, anyway.) Did you try K-Lite and Vista codec pack? Also, I just had to reinstall my DMA2100 for a different reason, and the latest version (1.1.1) of vmcNetflix does indeed crash during reinitializing the movie player on the extender (it works great on the PC.)

I was able to get it running, by starting a Netflix stream in VMC on the PC, then stopping it, but not exiting vmcNetflix, then going to the extender and RESETTING the extender from the vmcNetflix settings (NOT just reinitializing the player.)

In my system it works fine now, both on the PC and the extender.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

Herr Luttmann,   in case you're not regularly watching, I've filed four issues on the vmcnetflix Google Code project.  This is not a demand that you resolve them, but I'm merely wanting to let you know about these reports and offer my assistance if you desire any further information or testing.

Thanks very much for such a great addition to my movie-watching lifestyle - I've had nothing but good experiences overall with the 1.1.x series of vmcnetflix, and the issues I've reported are issues that could take this from great to spectacular.

    Cheers, Mike

Hello all - does anyone have a v1.0.28R2 for Vista 64. I have heard some success stories with this version, although limited browsing capabilities. Nothing really more limiting than not being able to view any of the movies like now though...

I tried to email Eric but have not heard from him yet.

    Thanks in advance - - - >

It looks like I already have the K-Lite pack installed, and the Vista codec pack said something that made me think twice about installing it. I will retry it and send the message.

I have also tried the ole' getting it started on the PC, stop it without closing the plugin, then try it via extender 360 [has always and still does work on PC, via Media Center and Netflix IE great].

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)

I tend to believe it's not really a codec problem though, considering the previous version plays fine without codec errors. And if it really was a codec problem, wouldn't that effect it playing on the PC as well? Everybody seems to be playing on the PC just fine.

It may, or it may not be. But since it plays fine on mine and on others' extenders, it's likely something specific to systems which exhibit the problem, and codecs are one of the main differences between people's systems. So it's worth making sure your codecs are in order and there are no conflicts.

BTW, did you guys try RESETTING the extender as described in my previous post? This is how I got it to work on my DMA2100 yesterday, even though reinitializing the player caused the app to hang.

I already gave up and went back to 1.0.28.
I'd tried resetting/reinitializing/reinstalling multiple times before that though.

You'd think that.  I could watch on my PC with 1.0.28rc2 and was using "vista codec pack", however it wouldn't stream to my xbox no matter how many times I went through the setup process.  Changing to ffdshow instead of the vista codec pack fixed the problem.  Perhaps just re-installing the vista codec pack would have fixed it too?  Either way, count me in as a case of a codec causing a streaming to xbox problem.
