Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms
lstiles: eluttmann1:[Strange, when I created a standard user (not even member of admin) I ran regedit and had full access to HKCU\Software\Luttmann and Read-Only access to HKLM. I'm sure having HKLM unaccessable is the problem, and I don't know why you would have no access to HKLM.
I agree... that is strange. It's not that I don't have access to any of HKLM... just that key (and one called License right above the Luttmann listing).
I will try to remove that key/listing by explicitly running regedit as the original Admin account and reinstall with that new RC2 version you posted earlier.
Does your application use the HKCU\Software\License registry key? So I'll know to remove it as well?
I know this is old business. But incase this comes up again for anyone else, I think I found the solution to this problem from the TVTonic forums... http://www.tvtonic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=622 In there someone found out that there is a bug in Vista that causes it to loose permissions in the registry for some users. They downloaded the "subinacl.exe" command from Microsoft's Windows Resource Kit, here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/details.aspx?familyid=E8BA3E56-D8FE-4A91-93CF-ED6985E3927B&displaylang=en ...and modified the relevant registry tree to reset the permissions.
The command which enabled TVTonic Setup to work successfully was:
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
thus re-instating the permissions for these crucial string for TVTonic...
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.m4v]
"Content Type"="video/x-m4v"
"PerceivedType"="video"
This technique might help not being able to access "HKCU\Software\Luttmann" if it ever happens to anyone else.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)
When you start VMCNetflix how long does the Vista circle spin before you see the application launch? Mine spins for 2-3 minutes and then everything seems okay ... Version 1.1.1 on Vista Home Premium - no extender.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)
Hello - I am trying to start a new thread specifically for the vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 Vista 64 Codec Error and the License Error: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/277627/ShowThread.aspx#277627
There are over 80 pages on the vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008) Thread: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/251420.aspx and I have seen many posts with the same issues I have been having and we have the same thing in common.
Running Vista 64 Followed all the proper install methods Followed all the proper uninstall and reinstall methods Followed all the proper troubleshooting methods Runs on the PC in IE via netflix page and through the Media Center Get the Codec Error on the extender via the XBOX 360 when trying to stream Get License Error when trying to play a downloaded movie
I think that covers it - very excited about this plug-in. Don't want to wait for Netflix XBOX feature at the end of the Fall, but thinking I may have to. Really don't want to spend too much more time uninstalling and reinstalling the plug-in.
Has anyone experienced these issues and has done something to make this work?

Frankly, if you don't want to be reinstalling, you shouldn't have installed Vista 64. 64 is getting much better, but there are still various incompatibilities and codec issues, not just with this plugin. Your problems may or may not be with this specific plugin, but may involve other factors, such as codecs. Testing, which does include installing and reinstalling, is the only way to get it sorted out. Vista 32 works well.

Funny, I'm running Vista 32 and I'm having the same issue as many Vista 64 people. I've even tried this app on a clean (just reformatted a few days ago) machine, even before I installed my antivirus software.

What exactly is the "same issue?" Does Netflix run in IE? Have you updated your player? What codecs do you have (individually installed or a pack?) Does it run on your PC? On your extender?

MCENetflix used to work for me but now it stopped - extender gets a license issue when trying to play downloaded videos and simply crashes when trying to stream live videos. When i noticed it stopped working i logged into the media center host and opened up the browser and went to netflix and launched a movie. I was logged in however when launching the movie i received a popup window built into the player prompting for a username and password. After typing that in and logging in during that window playing on the MCE PC works however playing on the xbox extender is a no go. perhaps i watched so much tv that they trigger a secondary authentication that this application can't handle? Dunno.. i'm going to try and un-install and re-setup, delete registry and all to see if they cookied me or something in particular. Running Vista Premium 32bit here.

The same issue posted above by the people such as natasjlp running Vista 64. I'll paste it again in case my post gets bumped off the page and you can't see the previous post: natasjlp:Running Vista 64 Followed all the proper install methods Followed all the proper uninstall and reinstall methods Followed all the proper troubleshooting methods Runs on the PC in IE via netflix page and through the Media Center Get the Codec Error on the extender via the XBOX 360 when trying to stream Get License Error when trying to play a downloaded movie
Only I'm running Vista 32. Musictype: Does

your extender?
Of course it runs in IE. That's the first item on the installation instructions. This is a clean install on a reformatted machine, so the player is most definately the latest version. I have ffdshow installed. Yes it runs on the PC, although I'm having the issue many others are having where it takes 3 minutes to start. I get the codec error on the xbox 360. Basically everything natasjlp just said, including the attempts at uninstall and reinstall and troubleshooting using the instructions on the official vmcNetflix page.

yeah - I realize one needs to reinstall for troubleshooting purposes, it is just that I have done it so many times, and carefully step by step. The time I have spent is equal to a Roku - but because I am this invested time-wise, I would like to get it to work just on principle.
of course there will be issues with any Microsoft OS - why stop at Vista 64 -- - - - - >
I am trying to start a whole new thread for (I guess Vista 32 people are welcome as well) the codec and license error. I have seen many people report these issues and have tried every 'solution' offered with no success (short now of using Vista 32). I guess it can become frustrating because there are so many different issues discussed on this single thread. Maybe if we dedicated one to an issue that as far as I can tell has not been resolved, perhaps we can get somewhere - other than blaming a Microsoft OS.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)
Hm, since it's working for many (at least 32bit) users, perhaps it's a codec issue specific to some systems (since
jennyfur has an otherwise clean system?)
Can you try installing a codec pack like K-Lite ( http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm)
and see what happens (I know some argue against codec packs, but I've
used them for years, and a few work very well and allow me to play and
encode virtually everything.) Also may want to try Vista Codec Pack (it also has a specific 64 bit version - read through here http://shark007.net/ - very useful info) But 64 is more likely to be buggy, regardless.
Run a codec cleaning utility - some codec packs have them and make sure you repair all your codecs.
Also, can you try an earlier version of the plugin, if it used to work?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)
I will definitely try the codec packs - thanks for the links. I know it does play on the netflix page via IE, and I believe Eric said if you needed a codec or some download, the in page IE would let you know when you tried to view the movie through their website.
This is the first version of the plug-in I have ever tried. Is there an older version that people have had better success with on 64?

x86 has issues as well. For me once the plug in starts it plays the rest of that 'session' great. I really like this software and appreciate the time and effort the authors have invested. Your post(s) are a little vague on details as far as your process and for me the process often dictates success or failure. If I have problems, most of the time (not all) I have to (on the extender (360)) clear the cache, reset the extender, restart the plug in, attempt to start the show and reinitiallize the player twice at the prompt. I cannot say if x64 has issues but without knowing what you are doing it is hard to correlate that to my personal experiances. Not that I would probably be able to help, but others might. Cheers and good luck

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)
turls:More on my issues from a few posts above--the uninstall/reinstall makes no difference. The only clue I see is when the player crashes on the codec error (asking to reinitialize), if I click "yes", it briefly pops up a Windows error relating to crashing the "Media Center Extensibility Host".
Exact same problem here on multiple extenders.. but my host system is Vista x86. What to do? Should I roll back to 1.028?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.1.1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/16/2008)
well - this 'codec error' may not be OS specific, although I have seen more 64 complaints of it and less 64 users with a working version.
I haven't installed the codec pack yet but am going to try it out right now. I will report back with findings - hoping positive but not expecting...
I am definitely willing to try any well thought out suggestions and serious troubleshooting methods.

What I meant specifically (if you check my earlier posts) was step by step - what is posted by Eric on http://myweb.cableone.net/eluttmann04/projects/vmcNetFlix/default.htm. I am not sure if I can be any more specific than that without adding superfluous detail. I do agree specific details of the process is integral to troubleshooting and solving an issue.
