Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Here is my issue:  The card works great for 3-5 days then unexpectedly it stops working.  I get an error message in Vista Media Center saying "Tuner Not Installed".  When I put the computer to sleep, it turns back on but locks up with black screen and runs the fans at full speed.  When I unplug the card from the motherboard and plug it back in again and set it up, it will work fine again until in 3-5 days when it will unexpectedly stop working again.

I have the card working great with Vista Home Premium Media Center with QAM and .30 drivers installed.  I also let my computer sleep when I am not using it, but that shouldn't be a huge deal.

    My computer specs:
    Intel P4 3.4Gz w/ HT
    2 Gig ram
AverMedia M780 Combo HDTV (.30 drivers)
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT

    Any Ideas?  Thanks!

I was getting lockup issues when resuming from sleep mode and trying to tune a channel until I installed the media center standby tool.  I set the MST to always shut down media center upon going to sleep and to restart it upon resuming.  It cleared up that issue for me.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Has anyone been able to get both QAM and ATSC channels when using Vista with the TV Pack?  I'm not currently using the Aver custom scanner/beta tools.

I'm able to see QAM channels fine -- I get about 13 of them -- but I'm not seeing any other ATSC channels.  Is this a known issue?

    Thanks!

How many m780 tuner cards do you have and how did you set them up in the TV Pack?

The AVerTV Combo PCIe x1 m780 has an analog NTSC tuner and a digital tuner capable of ATSC and QAM. The m780 can’t do ATSC and QAM simultaneously.

I have two AVerTV Combo PCIe x1 m780 cards in one system setup for dual QAM and dual NTSC but if I were to install the TV Pack I would probably add a spare Vbox Cat’s Eye 164e PCIe card for dual ATSC OTA.

I only have one m780 card.  In the TV Pack it recognized the two tuners (NTSC and QAM).

I guess my question might be based on a misunderstanding of the difference between ATSC and QAM.  Is ATSC only over the air and QAM is only through a cable company?  I was basically expecting to get "more" digital channels than I am seeing (approximately 13, mostly just local affiliate HDs for ABC, NBC, etc) but maybe that was unrealistic...

    Thanks

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

QAM is cable only and ATSC is OTA. The number of QAM channels you receive in the clear (unencrypted) will depend on your cable companies good graces. For example, via RCN Cable in NYC I receive something on the order of ~130 QAM channels in the clear which is down from the ~140+ I used to receive. The QAM lineup has a nice little smattering of HD channels and the lineup closely mirrors the cable set top box lineup.

Thanks a lot for the clarification.  I guess my issues are just a matter of my cable company sucking in their lineup of unencrypted QAM channels =).

Sorry guys on getting back to you. I will be at that particular clients house tomorrow afternoon and will get the model number. If I have time while there I will go through the set up menu and jot dowm the settings. However it may not be till later in the week. Major remodel is being done and the MEC may be sealed off for dust.

    Please give me something.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Sorry. New to this forum.  I have Vista (no TV Pack) and am looking for the best HDTV tuner available.  It seems that two names are thrown around a lot: the AverMedia AverTV Combo PCI-E and the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250.  Which one is better?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

    How do you define "Better"?

The AverTV Combo PCI-E has one analog NTSC and one ATSC/QAM digital tuner. Which means you can record one of those channels while watching the other one.

The HVR-2250 has two hybrid tuners, each one is capable of switching between NTSC and ATSC/QAM, so effectively you can do either 1 of 3 things at a time: (a) watch NTSC channel on one tuner and record a NTSC channel on the other tuner, OR (b) watch ATSC/QAM on one tuner and record ATSC/QAM on the other, OR (c) watch NTSC on one tuner and record ATSC/QAM on the otherrr [or vice versa].

If you have the Vista Fiji TV Pack 2008, the AverTV Combo card is compatible with the pack and can let you access QAM using VMC (without going through work-arounds as with pre-Fiji VMC). However, the HVR-2250's QAM functionaliry is currently incompatible with Fiji, although there is a beta driver from Hauppauge floating around that supposedly provides a registry fix to allow QAM to work.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I recently got a M780. The ATSC and Analog Tuners used to work with
my VMC TV Pack 2008. But it suddenly stopped working. When I try to
resetup my TV Signal, Only Analog Tuner shows up, Digital Tuner says
no cable connection. I have a 3 way splitter, my samsung LN-T3253H is
able to suck up so many channels. ( I have basic cable - no set top
box), but the M780 is not working properly. There are so many grains
in Analog and the Digital Tuner does not even show up. I tried the
Aver TV, same result as VMC. Help Please? I am struggling with this
card. I tried the manual setup too...No connection shows up in Digital Tuner. I have comcast and live in the Santa Clara/Bay Area. Anyone having similar problems?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

The signal going into the ATSC/QAM input is too weak.  You need to decrease the number of splits that you're doing to the cable signal or buy a booster.  Take the TV out of the loop and just try having the cable split once going into the two card inputs.  If that still doesn't work then try having the cable go directly from the wall into the ATSC/QAM input with no splitters in between.  I can almost guarantee this is your problem.

What drivers are you using for this card with TV Pack? I thought I got the most recent drivers from their site but everytime I go through the TV Signal Setup process I get a BSOD and it says there is a driver issue.

How is everyone doing with the BSOD issue that Felix indicated the beta of the ".30" driver was intended to fix?  I've only seen one reply on that topic since this was posted six weeks ago.  The release of the .30 driver is probably waiting for our feedback.

I installed .30 a few days after it was released and have not had a BSOD yet.  This is with using media center every day as my primary TV viewing application.  If that doesn't mean they've fixed the problem then I don't know what does.
