Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
I just upgraded to .30 an hour ago. Right after my post last night my system froze again and tonight after changing channels I got a message from VMC that the hardware not not responding- I had to reboot to get it working again. And so I upgraded to .30. So far so good- but the great thing is that it is switching channels MUCH faster! Almost like a TV!
I hope to see a reduction or end to the freezes!

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
mxnerd:
I just bought this card yesterday. I'm surprised that it's CD does not come with TV tuner program, I guess they expect you use it on XP Media Center or Vista Premium/Ultimate only?
Anyway, I installed the card on my XP Pro. installed the v 2.5.0.19 driver on CD . Downloaded AVerTV 6.07 and Aver Media Center 1.51.
I ran AVerTV and did a Analog signal scan and it went fine and finished scanning. Did the scanning on OTA HDTV signal and the AVerTV ALWAYS STUCK in the middle of scanning channels! It could happen anywhere 40%, 67% or 85% etc. press any button (Stop, OK, Apply, close button) and there is no response. The only way get out is end it with task manager.
Same is Aver Media Center, ALWAYS STUCK in the middle of scanning channels.
Anyone same experience? Reboot and rescan, no use, same sympton. It's really frustrating.
System: XP Pro 32bit
Motherboard: INTEL DG33TL, Video: Intel G33 Express, 4GB DDR2 memory, CPU: E6400
Cable: Charter communication
Location: Southern california
I had exactly the same problem running XP Pro and Aver Media Center. I finally got the ATSC (digital channels) to finish scanning, after multiple attempts. When switching from analog to digital channels, the program locks up. Sometimes after the lockup, I'll have to resart the program 3 or 4 times to work again. Occasionally the digital channels work.
I have NO plans to go to Vista and since there are not many of us still running XP, is support going to be limited?
Any known solutions?

I use an M780 on XP Media Center Edition without problems. I don't use the avermedia application anymore (no point when MCE is much better), but when I first installed it there were no problems. Have you installed all service packs?

I was also having the BSOD problem with this card and the TV Pack. The .30 seems to have fixed the BSOD problem, but the tv tuner does not seem to be able to tune any channels after waking up from sleep. Watching HD via QAM is awesome when it works.... Anybody have this problem too?

I am also using this card with TV Pack on Vista. I am seeing strange this with standby as well (no BSOD but sometimes channels won't tune), but the biggest problem I am having is with analog tuning. I can tune to an analog cable channel fine, but after about a minute or so the audio and video get all "garbled." I don't know how to better describe it, but both the audio and video become unintelligible. Tuning to QAM on the digital tuner works fine. Any idea if the new drivers will help? I am running .29 now.

I am not sure if this will fix your problem, it seems like .30 was primarily to fix the BSOD problem. I wanted to buy another one of these cards but I am holding off until I can get one working on a consistent basis.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
I've been running .30 for five days now. No more system freezes for me (wasn't getting BSOD, but my system was freezing.) However, I also upgraded to the new drivers (1st official new drivers since June) for my Nvidia 9600GT. So, I can't say 100% for sure that these new aver drivers are what fixed my issue. But again, channel changing is much faster- and that I noticed before updating Nvidia drivers!

I've been running .30 for about four days now and it's been flawless so far. I was on .26 previously since that seemed to be the most stable with far fewer BSOD's than later releases, but with .30 there are _no_ BSOD's and like others have mentioned the channel tuning seems faster. A win all the way around!

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
I apologize for asking what is probably a stupid question, but even after readings LOTS of post on this thread, I'm stuck. So I have a couple of questions:
1. I have one 780 card in a MCE2005 machine, I've installed the beta, plugged in the cable to the ANT IN, and did a scan, but I only get about 20 qam channels (even some new HD), but no analog. Am I supposed to be using a splitter and plugging in to both the ANT IN and TV IN to get both the unencrypted QAM and the analog channels? Or, do I need two tuners for each qam and analog?
2. Also, why doesn't the channel numbering in aver's qam software follow the digital channel actually numbering, for example my local NBC is 5-1 but in MCE it's 1022?
3. The qamtool instructions make it seem like having a program guide is not possible, but once I export the guide from the tool, can't I then setup the guide listings in MCE (using whatever digital cable is appropriate) and then delete what's not needed and match up the listing to the correct channel. It's seem like that would work, guide updates and all.
Thanks!

Yes, you need a splitter to get both QAM and analog channels. As to the 1000 channel numbering...I've got no idea and I just learned to live with it. Finally, yes, you can set up the guide manually, but unless you follow the instructions in the post below you will lose all the settings once the guide updates itself. http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/160819/277425/ShowThread.aspx#277425

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
Here is another option if you can find one of the older Motorola Comcast non DVR, but just straight HD box. They have the pass through port on the back that you can change the user settings on the box, to allow it to pass the signal through after it has been decrypted.... Then use your tuner MCE tuner to scan and it should show all channels that you are paying for in SD and HD broadcast. We have played with this a couple times and got it to work. Or if you can get a main decrypter from your local cable headend...(good luck) which will decrypt all and just make it all clear QAM256, Presto!!
We use these at large venues for full HD braodcast when that provider sponsors that venue. Then we use Directv ProIdum boxes for the rest of the conten and combine it all for the venues own cable system... But they pay us $$$$$$$$$$$$ to get this done. Good luck. You can good the moto boxes and find out how to change settings and pass through. I believe the model is the DCH3416. If not let me know and I will give you the correct model number.....

Well the original poster mentioned he is getting HiDef and he said the box is NOT a DVR. So by process of elimination it is either the DCH-3200, DCX-3200
Can someone who has actually seen this work tell me which model number is capable of doing this. Also how do you change the setting of the set-top box to allow unencrypted qam through the RF jack.
