Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.28R1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/3/2008)
Now that Netflix has officially announced that they will be supporting the Xbox 360, I wonder if the popularity of this software helped them make a decision. vmcNetflix is my favorite software product in 2008. Bloomberg Article

Vmcnetflix is the only thing keeping me using vista right now. My provider (fios) just turned off analog so unless Microsoft starts supporting qam I'll probably go back to xp once this update hits.

Netflix on the Xbox 360 is only for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, so unless you're already paying for it, that's another $50 a year PLUS your Netflix subscription.
It also appears to have about as much functionality as the Roku player (queue only, no browsing or downloading)
If you can't see the fnord, it can't eat you.

The HDHomeRun supports Clear QAM in Media Center but chances are most of the Fios channels you were getting over analog are encrypted on QAM.

That sucks. Instead of trying to add value to the Xbox 360 in order to boost sales, M$ is using this as another tactic to get Live Gold subscriptions. Long live vmcNetFlix!

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.28R1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/3/2008)
I had this happen last night while I was watching and downloading. When this happened, I ended up quitting the vmcNetFlix session but the stream I was watching continued and was able to full screen it again but clicking on the now playing window. So, at least I did not have to stop and ff back to the same point. The dload complete notifications are nice - but I agree some tweaking is needed in that area. I am curious if anyone knows if my other unfinished NF DLs stopped in my scenario when I exited vmcNetFlix [are the dloads only performed while the app is running]?

Xbox sales aren't doing that badly, MS doesn't need to be that desperate. In fact, last I'd read the console has actually finally become profitable for them. Besides, many companies (even the one I work for) are moving away from relying on hardware sales and focusing more on services. Live Gold is a service which opens up users to a slew of other crap they can buy, as well as entice them to use the console in other ways that they may not have otherwise. MS is a business after all, and that's a good business model to make more money in the long run. Not to mention I'm sure there's a large sum of money being exchanged between MS and the Netflix company that has to be recouped somewhere. I just bought an xbox about a month ago to use as an extender. And signed up for Live Gold soon after. If you're really concerned about the cost, just get your subscriptions on eBay. The Live Vision Gold package, which comes with 12 months Gold membership, the live webcam, and a couple arcade games sells for $70 or more in stores. I picked it up for $45 with little effort. So it cost me less than it would have to buy a year subscription to Live by itself retail.

rberger909: gpatlanta: rberger909:I have uninstalled and reinstalled following the directions on the main page but I continue to get a "License Unavailable" error. How do I correct this? This plug in looks amazing but I'm being frustrated at every turn...=( Please help!!
rberger, can you please supply some additional information? Have you confirmed that the netflix application is working in IE7 and that IE7 is your default browser? Upon install, have you seen you player initialized and heard 2001 music in background? Also, what Netflix plan are you on and are you trying to use this on your PC or an extender? These topics have been covered many times on this thread, but they are often related to the typical challenges users face.
Hopefully it is something simple. Also, sometimes it takes a few tries to get things to work. There is good troubleshooting guidance on Eric's site as well which I highly recommend reading if you haven't already in addition to reviewing the last 5-6 pages of this thread.

Sorry, I guess more information would have been helpful...=) Ok to answer your questions, Netflix Player does work in IE7, IE7 however is not my default browser, should it be? As for the music, are we talking about Netflix Player or vmcNetflix? It has been some time since I installed the Netflix player so I couldn't say for sure if it had music or not, as for vmcNetflix I don't remember any music. I am on the Neflix one out plan (8 some odd dollars). I am trying to use this on my XBox 360 as an extender. It works perfectly fine on my computer within vmcNetflix. These topics have been covered, this is true but the thread is almost 80 pages long covering a large variety of versions and the search tool is not all that helpful...=\...I had found some issues similar to mine with suggestions, none of which helped. Is the troubleshooting guide on the main page or buried in the thread? If its the troubleshooting portion on the main page, I tried it but to no avail, is there an updated one somewhere? Thanks for any help you can provide. Like I said, I just really want this to work because it seems like such a cool plug-in and idea. Thanks!
Any help anyone?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.28R1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/3/2008)
dkay:If I kick off multiple downloads and then start watching the first one that completes, the NF player gets hidden behind VMC when a download complete notification appears.
Is there are workaround for this? Can the notifications be turned off? Can focus be restored to the NF player without starting over and FF'ing to where I was before?
-DK
If you press "Play" on the remote while in the gallery or details page, it will take you full screen again.

Pressing the "play" button on the remote will take you back to full screen if in the gallery or details page. the dloads will continue even if the app is not running.

Re: Netflix Updated Site AGAIN
jennyfur: ams123mce:
I really like the tool and the download feature but I have found it to be increadably slow, launching and loading movie detials. I don't use a extender, computer directly attahed to HDTV. Computer is 7 months old with Vista 64 bit, 2 G ram and AMD dual core 2400BE processor. I know it is not my internet connection since the MyNetflix is lightening fast in comparison.
That's the same problem I'm having, as mentioned a page or so ago. My system is also 7 months old. Vista 32bit, 2gb RAM, core 2 duo with a fast internet connection. However, it takes me about 3 minutes to load movie details. MyNetflix works fine for me also, the only reason I want to get vmcNetflix working is because I really want to be able to watch movies with my extender. But since I can't even get it working smoothly on my PC, I'm not even going to try with the extender.
The next release should address issues in loading the movie details, plus some other changes which should help performance.

Dasavior:
Am I missing something, or does this post make no sense at all?
The press release talks about XBox Live, which is fine if you are using an XBox 360, but I don't see how this impacts this application, or VMC.
I don't see an indication that Netflix viewer will be integrated in VMC any time soon, at least not from the MS press release.
Do you know something we don't? If not, why would you wonder "how long this app will be around?"

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.28R1 w/ Vista Extender Support (7/3/2008)
I just got this installed on a fresh Media Center setup (vista) and it seems to work however selecting a movie and waiting for the movie details to come up seems to take a few minutes and will often warn me to cancel or continue but if i continue the movie details come up and i can hit play. Is there something i should checkout in my configuration to speed this up or is this a symptom of Netflix making another change and the vmcnetflix sort of spinning its wheels looking for what it expected to find?
Fresh install as of the latest download available on an SP1 Vista machine running Xbox 360 extenders, testing with 1 extender to make sure nothing else is impacting the setup at this point.
