Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

I'm guessing not.  TV Pack was alot bigger than 12MB.

The five hotfixes superseded by the non-TV-Pack patch were maybe part of TV Pack, however - explaining the smaller file size.  Or, MSFT is fixing bugs in Non-TV-Pack, but not addressing them in TV Pack (maybe they don't NEED to be addressed, since they might not exist in TVP)?

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

I have found another kind of strange issue and I cant figure out if it is truly related to the TV Pack or not.

I have Vista Ultimate x64 edition.  I have reinstalled 6 times over the past few weeks for a myriad of issues with the TV Pack and Windows.

After I install the TV Pack, the next day many of my Control Panel applets (like Windows Update, Network and Sharing Center, etc) will not load and all display "This page failed to load" in the center.  Also, applets like Programs and Features will not even come up at all.

Currently, I have everything setup the sameway minus the TV Pack and this has not happened yet (after 3 days).

Anyone else having a similar issue?

LOL.  I dont think a Microsoft Update has ever been so anticipated. LOL.

But, like someone else pointed out, updates through Microsoft Update many times come out late in the day Pacific time.  (Which its only around 10:00 AM).

I just hope we don't have run through the TV signal setup again once the update is applied.  I'm getting tired of setting up my channels and favorites every time.

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

Now that is it available, we need to see what it fixed.

For myself I am interested to know if it fixed the guide not updating issue and the CableCARD not seeing certain channels on Live TV.  I dont have the TV Pack installed now, so feedback on this would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

    Yay, finally some answers:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956147

Addresses an issue in which Windows Media Center Extenders cannot re-connect to the host computer after the computer resumes from the suspend or sleep mode.
Improves the experience of recording analog TV broadcasts to include set-top box scenarios. Previously, some shows were blocked with "protected content" messages.

Note This solution does not apply to configurations that use analog TV over digital cable tuners. The BIOS for the digital cable tuners provide content protection.
Addresses an issue in which incorrect PlayReady API is called.
Addresses an issue in identification of systems with the Windows Media Center TV Pack installed for server-related content.
Addresses an issue with certain extensibility applications that pass the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) protocol-based URLs.
Addresses an issue with .wtv files that are listed as unsupported file type after the third-party decoders are installed.
Addresses an issue with Terrestrial Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting (ISDB-T) digital TV signal when it uses component or composite output.

Doesn't look like a very long list and I don't see any references to the guide problems: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956147

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

I just installed all available updates from today including the one for TV Pack but it didn't solve all bugs. I still have the stopping video problem with third party applications like my movies and mytv.

Really hoped they solved this because this was the biggest problem for me. This sucks!

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

Hmmm.. despite showing up in my upcming recordings when I specifically checked yesterday afternoon, none of my Monday night TV shows actually recorded....

    I'd call that a bug.

I wonder if today's updates address this?  I don't see anyhing in the list that looks like it might do so.

I feel your pain, millerbrad.  I almost missed everything last night, too.  I was too late in realizing that nothing was recording to save the NLCS game, Chuck, and most of Dancing with the Stars, but at least I was able to reboot the machine for Heroes.  I only missed the first few minutes, but I think I have had enough of the TV Pack.  I am going to reinstall Vista tonight and skip the TV Pack update.  Goodbye bugs!  Hello stable recordings, non-crashing guide updates, commercial skipping...  I can live without having my cablecard tuners and clear QAM channels mapped to the same channel number.  That was pretty much the only thing that the TV Pack did for me...

I'm afraid, for US customers, Dan is right and I may be doing the same thing. Especially since I have HD Homeruns that will work for Clear QAM in VMC anyway. Yeah the numbering is whack but stability and being able to use 3rd party tools that work with dvr-ms are huge.

I'd really miss the ability to easily add a 5th tuner though. I think there is a reg hack for that but I haven't tried it yet.

Re: Windows Media Center TV Pack Buqtrack Thread

I had a chance to apply the updates last night. On my system I had to make sure my extender wasn't connected and then I ran Windows Update manually and applied all the patches.
Haven't had much chance to see what, if anything, seems different but so far it seems I am getting better picture quality on standard definition channels. Before, I had to pause or skip back once to get better streaming. It has only been a little while so more observation is needed.
