RE: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

This seems to be a very good solution.
But do you know if it works with the Remote Wonder 2 ?

    Thanks for your help.

RE: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

In spy++ i get Window caption: Media Center and Class name:eHome Render Window which i guess is ok?

X10 works perfekt in media center, it's just the startup that wont work for me

RE: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

    Hi Wlad69,

It should work fine. X10Commander works with any X10 device, and I'm fairly certain the RW2 is X10 based. The Keywords your remote sends may be slightly different (e.g. the "guide" button on my RW+ sends "Book", but yours may send something different). So you may need to update the commands XML files to get your keys mapped correctly.

E.g. Update the keyword in the command tags:
    <X10Command type="Normal" name="TV Guide" keyword="Book" macro="VK_CONTROL,G"/>

However, I would expect most of the keywords to be the same. You can tell what the RW2 is sending my enabling logging and checking the Keyword column when you press a button on your remote.

    Good luck!

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

Hello Everyone!  Well X10Commander v1.3.0 is finally ready!  See the original post for details on whats new, etc.  Unfortunately TGB isn't allowing attachments at the moment.  So, I've uploaded the files to box.net (see links below).  You'll need to register to download, but it's VERY QUICK (only email and password are needed):

    X10Commander-bin-v1.3.0.msi - application install
    X10Commander-src-v1.3.0.msi - application source code

Thanks to everyone for your patience and sorry this took so long to release!!  You'll notice I skipped over v1.2.3; there was so much new I felt it warranted a higher version number :)

    Thanks!
    OCP

p.s Can anyone tell me if you received an email notification for this post?  I'm not sure if the new TGB forums are sending emails or not.  Thanks!!

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

Thanks for the new release!  Only have had a couple of minutes to look at it, but I have to say it is great to see mouse emulation.  It is a little jumpy, but much faster than I could ever get from the RW software.

I have only one issue, and remember I have had next to no time to really look it over, but I was really hoping to use my remote to type letters in the My Music Search box.  I just gave it a go and it still only types numbers.  Is there a way to enable this through the applications manager???

Thanks again for the long-awaited release!

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

    Hi SteelyKen...related to Dan? lol.

The mouse speed & acceleration can be tweaked in Tools > Options to maybe get it more to your liking.

The letter-entry is the ONE feature I didn't get to in v1.3.  Sorry!  It's a rather tricky one, and I figured I had held off on v1.3 for way too long as it was.  Anyhow it's definitely next on the list (see the "ToDo.txt" in the src for my list of items to add).  I will plan on doing more frequent, smaller releases from here on out.  Honest!

    OCP

p.s. One change in the MCE05 mappings now is CH +\- lets you page though lists of items (before it did a Add\Subtract macro).  A small consolation perhaps to not being able to use the letter-entry function yet.

Hey Steely.  The mouse emulation in v1.3 will allow Google Maps, or anything that is a hosted HTML app in MCE to function better.  I.e. you can move\click with the mouse.   Arrows, etc., still don't work though, for some reason the hosted app (in fact an Internet_Server window) isn't responding to Win32 commands.  I'm still digging into this one more, but at least the mouse will give you some control.

Re: RE: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

Gotta tell you that I LOVE the ch up/down buttons for scrolling!  It makes it so much easier to navigate through the hundreds of albums I have stored.  I also gave Google Maps a try and it works now.  Really cool thing to show off to family and friends.

Thanks so much for your hard work and your quick replies.

BTW, no relation to Dan here.  I just love their music!  Smile [:)]

Re: RE: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

Hey pezmannen, is the Startup still not working for you?  Have you tried it with v1.3??  Also v1.3 allows an AddressList="xx,xx,xx" in place of the Address="xx" so you can assign MCE to the list of X10 addresses your seeing from your remote.

    Thanks!

Still no luck here. Everything else works fine. I've created a short command instead that starts media center.

Huh, ok.  Did you map the shortcut then to the power button?

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

Hi everyone!  This is a plea for feedback!  I'm curious how everyone has found v1.3.  The good, bad, and the ugly.

    Feedback ticklers:

    1. Have you used Tools>Applications section?  Do you find it useful?  Easier than editing the XML files directly?
    2. Any issues\questions on the "Global" commands?
    3. Aren't the "submacros" and "favorite channels" cool?  Well cool may be a bit strong, but using "info", "suspend" and "d" (favorites) makes my MCE experience better.
    4. Are you using Mouse emulation?  I know the "click and drag" isn't there, but otherwise what do you think about it?
    5. Does it seem faster than v1.2?  I spent quite a bit of time optimizing the code base...so it should be :)

Any feedback you can give would be greatly appreciated.   I've got a short to-do list at the moment for v1.3.1, so don't hesitate!  Maybe a vlog module....hmmm...with webcam integration...

    Thanks!

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

    OCP,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I fiddled with 1.2.2 a while back, but just recently figured out how to address a range issue with the RW+.  1.3 is just about perfect and addressed most of what I thought was lacking in 1.2.2 (but would never complain because it was just awsome to be able to use the RW+ at all!).  My only issue right now is my own lack of understanding of how to customize the buttons.  (I need to add some buttons to do DVD navigation for example.)

As for your feedback request....I didnt even realize there were tools included to edit the XMLs!  (But to my defense....I was just so excited to get my setup working I have not sat at the PC to look closer yet.)  I have used the mouse emulation already....very handy that I dont have to run to the basement when things go a bit south.....

Just a FYI on my setup and the range situation just in case others have struggled with this.  My MCE PC is in my basement....about 40 feet away.  Its loud and I use it for far more than MCE at times so I didnt want it in the TV room.  Money is not unlimited so extenders were out of the picture, but watching recorded TV in the basement sucked (and my wife hated it).  I decided to connect the MCE to a VCR and run RF cable to the TV (I know....not the BEST picture, but its really not that bad!)  My biggest problem was the RW+ just didnt work in the TV room.  I had to get up, run across the house, hold the remote to the floor and press the buttons!  I looked at long USB cables....too expensive to go the distance.  Finally, I looked at the little, short wire off the USB dongle....Hmmmm...what if I made longer and run the wire so it was under my TV room?  So I stripped some insulation off the dongle wire and put a long (~40 foot) piece of wire on the other end.  Hey!  Its working better, but still not quite right.  I then coiled about a foot of the wire right at the end and spaced the coils out about 1/8" (so the coils dont touch).  Perfection!

So what does this have to do with X10Commander?  Without X10C there would have been no point!  I now have a fully accessible MCE system connected to my TV without having a big, ugly, loud PC in my TV room that could no longer be used for other things.

    Thanks again!

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

    Dancougar,

Thanks for the great feedback!  That's a great tip on extending the receiver wire.  And to think I spent so much money trying to get a silent PC (still noisy though), and all I really needed was some RF cable and wire!  I'm always so surprised by the creative ways people set up their systems, and happy to see X10Commander helping out.

For setting up your DVD nav buttons, the easiest way is to enable message logging (check the "log messages" checkbox).  Then you can see in the log which keyword is sent when you press a button on your remote (i.e. see the "keyword" column in the message log).  You then will need to assign that keyword to a particular macro.  Use the Tools>Applications section and the Macros section of the Read Me (F1 or Help>Read Me) to do this assignment.  You can either update the existing keyword\macro assignment or add a new one, etc.  Hopefully that helps, if not please let me know.

    Thanks!
    OCP

Re: Remote Wonder Plus and MCE 2005 - a .NET app for X10 devices

I only started messing around the MCE 6 months ago, and of all the programs I have found this one is the most amazing.  Well, I thought 1.2.2 was great, but 1.3 blows it away.

The mouse emulation is great, and with the global commands, I can navigate the desktop easy.  Being able to edit the xml file within the program is a lot easier than editing directly (being able to use regular names versus vk_*** is great too.)   I also like being able to start the program minimized too, saves me from having to get out the mouse from the drawer (but with mouse emulation now, guess I wouldn’t have to.)

It is a very solid program.  There is so much more functionality with the remote wonder / x10commander combo than with a standard remote.  I wouldn’t use MCE without it.  Thanks for such a great program!

EDIT: I think this should be in the download section of TGB
