    mmillmor:
I've had reports from one or two people of the screen hanging at "Loading Cache" when you open if for the very first time. I am not sure why, but if you click back and go in again, it moves past that - it only happens the very first time.

I think the problem arises if on first load you cancel the "Loading BBC" bit, as it messes up the cache.

I cannot get past Loading Cache regardless how many times I come out. Where is the cache stored so I can try and clear it (as an uninstall/reinstall doesnt clear the cache).

On the very first time I opened it, it said "Loading BBC", but I came out of it before it finished, now its just "Loading Cache" all the time :(

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

It's stored at C:/ProgramFiles/MillieSoft/TunerFreeMCE/programList.dat. You may find it not automatically visible in vista - there is some option on the task bar to show data files.

If it's proving too hard to get past the cache loading, I'd stick with version 1.4.1 until I fix the bug.

    Thanks for the quick reply,

However, there is no programList.dat file in my directory. I wonder if it is a UAC issue not being able to write to the directory?

The funny thing is, is on my media center, the problem arises (I have no programList.dat)

However, on my main computer, i installed v1.5 and let it do the whole loading channel thing, and it works fine, but i still dont have a programList.dat file.

I've tried adding an empty programList.dat file to my media center to see if it fixed the problem (to force a new cache refresh), but it didnt do anything.

I hope that info is of some use to your debugging :)

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

I think I have solved the hanging issue with version 1.5.1. I have changed the location to somewhere else. I think that the problem before was that I was writing to the ProgramFiles directory, which will work if you have administrator privileges, but hang if you don't. If you were having problems getting 1.5 to work, please download 1.5.1 and let me know if it solves your problems.

    Thanks

The cache should now be stored in your Program Files directory (typically at C:\Users\{your name}\ProgramData\Local\MillieSoft\TunerFreeMCE\programData.dat). Do you see the data file there? What do you see on the screen when you launch the program?

I'd be interested in hearing from people who have 1.5.1 working OK, to see if there is a pattern to the differences. What kind of user accounts do you have (Administrator vs Regular User)?

I wouldn't disable UAC - that should not be necessary at all.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    Hi martin

I disabled UAC so i can use VNC on my media centre. Saves me having to sort out the media centre sitting on the floor lol - anyho i digrese

Right well - if i go to c:\Users\(Name) i get all my little folders like contacts, desktop, documents and so forth but no program files. If i go to c:\programfiles\milliesoft\Tunerfreemce there is no file called programdata.dat. I did a search and cant find it anywhere

The ProgramFiles folder is a system folder, so you need to either type it in to the address bar to see it, or show system files in the explorer preferences.

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

Right - i do see the programlist.dat file where you said it would be. Its 912k in size if that helps

When i click on the program in VMC it loads up in the top left hand side of the screen i can either see the cache loading title which never seems to work so i exit and start again, when i do this i get the loading bbc, 40d and itv bits but then there is nothing on the screen. I get the search bar in the top right and FreeTunerMCE in the left side but there are no thumbnails just a blue empty screen

The thumbnails don't come as soon as it is loaded any more. You need to pick a channel or date or category before it will display the thumbnails for those. Do you get the light blue menu entries for that along the top of the screen?

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

I havent been here in a while!

Gotta say, the plug in is really coming along, looks great, I have had the occasional lock up while using it (not responding) - but in general it is much much better!

    • I have noticed the triple tap search is very slow to respond.... making searching via remote quite difficult..(keyboard is fine).
    • Still on occassions the click to play icon does not disappear on the BBC content.
    • When viewing "grouped" items (and some searches) - the thumbnail appear in the centre of the screen in half (have to move around them so that they appear again) - it seems theres a layer of blue over the top of one half of the selection? (does that make sense? I'll get a screenshot for you).
    • erm....yeah :o) keep it up!!

Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

There are some registry options from version 1.5.2 which allow you, amongst other things, to specify the location of the cache file or to turn off caching completely. See here for info. Try them out and see if it changes things for you.
