Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

For those of you that feel the need to "try" OML out before its really ready, these are the short docs on manually installing from source:

    1) Compile the project (using any version of Visual Studio 2008 with Media Center SDK 5.3).

    2) using a visual studio cmd prompt go into the Library\Setup (or Setup64) dir and run Build.bat

Note: This will require wix 3.0 (wix.sourceforge.net) to be installed.

    3) run the installer

    4) copy the OMLEngine\OML.config file to \program files\openmedialibrary and edit to your needs

    5) run the OMLImporter.exe located in OMLImporter\bin\(debug or release)\ and follow its direction.  It will ask which importer to use (mymovies, dvd profiler and/or movie collectorz).  An open file dialog will appear, select your xml file.  This will take a moment to import your titles into oml.

At this point you should be good to go.  If your not seeing what something similar to what I posted the please post the files located in \program files\openmedialibrary\logs and your \program files\openmedialibrary\oml.dat file on our forums and we'll take a look at whats going on.  (Note, it wont be a high priority, but we'll get to it).

NOTE:  The Movie Collectorz and the DVD Profiler plugins will not currently produce anything that can "play" movies since either of these apps contain location information for media.  If you want a decent exp. for now I'd stick with the mymovies export file.

Is this still with still using the MyMovies back end or something else?  Looks good.

No.  The "movies" were imported from a mymovies.xml file. But the plugin now uses it's own internal source.

Ok great.  I'm hoping the xml files I'm using right now from Taranu's Dvd Library tool will work as well.

Thanks for all the hard work!

There is a version of the DVD Library Manager that supports exporting to OML.
You can set the file to the one in program files\openmedialibrary\oml.dat or a different file.
    http://www.taranu.net/download/dvdlibmanOML.zip

Eventually there will be only one version but for now use this to export your existing DVD Library.

WOW, I'l really looking forward to this one....I'm using the built in Library now, with about 15 movies, I think I am going to buy a new drive just for all my DVDs when this comes out....

So, now that some people are building/using this plugin it would be great if you all could provide some feedback about your experiences.  Bugs, feature requests, likes/dislikes, whatever.  We'd love to hear how it is working so far for people.

Exception:  Speed, if you add alot of titles then going to the menu (either the first time or coming back from the title detail page) its kinda slow, I'm aware of this and am working on it so please don't bother mentioning it.

Also, I'd just like to say thank you from the OML team for all the great support we're getting, public feedback is a great way for us to feel good about what we're doing and it helps to focus out efforts in the direction that will most benefit the community. After all, you are the reason we are writing this app in the first place.

My pleasure but to be fair the credit goes to dbldown768, taranu, KingManon, STReNT, and myself.

Grouping logic is currently being developed/designed by taranu, once that is completed then we may look at something like this, I can say that categories, groupings, etc are planned, I just can't exactly when.

Tried installing it but it gave me a global  assembly cache error, because the OMLEngine isn't installed?

You will need to have OML installed. The OML installation should add OMLEngine to the GAC.

You can add the OMLEngine dll to the GAC manually typing:

    GACUTIL /i OMLEngine.dll /f

Scroll up and you will see the directions, but you must have Visual Studio 2008 installed.  If I get a chance on Monday I may do it while at work.

There haven't been an official release from the OML team yet. As this software is open source everyone is welcome to download the source, compile and use it. With that said, I would also like to say that you as an end user should wait for an official release of OML as the source available today could very well change quite a bit before release especially the graphical user interface. So instead of getting disappointed with a pre-beta, wait it out and get a real release.

    Good point.

When do you think we'll possibly see the first official release? I'm not asking for a specific date or anything, just to give us an idear of how close you are with the development. Weeks or months?

    Thanks!

Re: Open Media Library - souce posted

I really hope they don't push it out prematurely even in beta form, so many 3rd party apps are let down starting off by little problems, i'd rather see them do some kind of closed beta before releasing it into the wild.

Well, I got it to compile, install and import the MyMovies XML, but I did not have any cover art and the file links were broken.  NOt sure if this is a result if its prematurity or if something else was wrong though.

FYI, My cover art is stored on a NAS, as are all of my movie files.  I use only AVI, MP4 and MKV - no VIDEO_TS folders or ISO images.  Everything in MyMoves is linked using a UNC path name (\\servername\videos\movie.mkv).

I also noticed I did not have the OML.CONFIG file that the instructions says to copy over.

Otherwise, it appeared to function correctly.  Can't wait until it is in a more usable form.

To make things better for OML and everyone, it would be great it everyone who compiles this baby left us a message at either the forum or at Google code, so we can get any bugs fixed.
