Yep ... ... It's a registry modification to the MCXx account, and it should enable the other netflix apps as well....- EricL

Is it a tough modification? If not, is it possible to get instructions on what to change/add, to stop people like me hitting this server every minute or so, to check if something new was posted? :-)))

    Thanks!

    Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.4.5 Release

It's not necessarily tough - it's mainly just getting the NetFlix movie viewer & codec setup for the MCX account (I was intially able to do most of that by using one of the MCE Browsers and going through the motions to "play" a watchnow movie).  The tricky part is trying to prevent Netflix using-up an extra PC license for each Vista user account on the PC.    NetFlix only allows up to 4 PCs for WatchNow per year (it resets every January) – a “feature” of Vista is that each user account looks like a new “PC” to Netflix, and I’ve found the hard way that can scarf-up your licenses fast.

This version installs as "Service\Movies", which seems to place it it to the left of the "TV Recordings" in the TV+Movies strip.  I think it also places a copy in the old "Programs" place as well.

I had the MyMovies plugin in the TV+Movies strip and the Netflix addin overwrote the MyMovies spot...wonder if it's possible to get both plugins to show up???

Hmm, I don't know ... I'll have to look in to that - I assumed the registration would have handled that case.  That must be why it gets installed in both places

Sharp_1, try the new version of MC Menu Mender: http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/255723.aspx

It works nicely and it should allow you to move stuff around.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms

I am getting the following error when I try to watch a movie:

"The Download Manager Service has not been installed"

What does this mean?  I am able to watch movies normally through a web browser, and I can't figure out what is meant by the "Download Manager Service".  Any help would be appreciated.

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms

This means that it's having problems interfacing with the download/proxy service.  Things to try:

    1) If you know where the services are listed, look for the 'VMC NetFlix Download Manager' service and attempt to start it manually, then try again.

    2) Reboot PC and try again.

    3) Turn off UAC, reboot PC and try again.

    4) Uninstall and reinstall vmcNetFlix app - making sure the user account has admin privliges.

    5) Uninstall and reinstall vmcNetFlix app - turning off UAC first.

Let me know what you find out,

I tried all of your suggestions, along with every combination of installing/uninstalling/UAC I could think of and I still get the same error.  When I tried to manually start the service I got the following error:

"The VMC NetFlix Download Manager service on Local Computer started and then stopped.  Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."

I'm guessing this isn't the expected behavior... does this give any insight into what may be going on?

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms

Thats indicating that the service is failing at some point (for some reason) ... a few more questions:  Which version are you installing and what platform (x86 or x64) are you installing this on?  Is there anything in the Event Logs that might help point out the issue?

    Thanks,

    - EricL

One other thing, part of the service sets up a local proxy on port 8081 - you might check to see if you have firewall blocking use of that port, or another application using that port.

I am installing the x86 version on Vista Ultimate x86.  I opened up port 8081 in the Windows Firewall per your suggestion but that didn't seem to help.  I did find the following in the Event Viewer:

Service cannot be started. System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

    File name: 'System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'

    at vmcNetFlix.DownloadManager.OnStart(String[] args)

    at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.

To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.

Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.

To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

Re: vmcNetFlix Beta 1.0.6.0 Release for both x86 and x64 platforms

It looks like it's failing because it cannot find a .NET resource. Which versions of .NET do you have installed?

    1.1.4322

    2.0.50727

    3.0
