    Re: RE: [PlugIn] Web Media Release Candidate 1 (was Web Radio)

    Hi,

    I had been looking for a way to view Web Video for a while, and just came across the Web Media plugin, which looks like a great way to do this.

    I downloaded and installed the plugin without problem, but the stream I am trying to watch presents the following problem.

    When you play the stream from the Web site, it actually plays several segment one after the other (you can tell by the green play bar at the bottom of WMP). First a title screen, then a commercial, then the title screen, then the actual video. Unfortunately, they all reference a single stream name. When I add that stream in Web Media, and play it, it plays the first two segments, then stops (I guess it thinks the video is over). I was wondering if this is a know limitation of Web Media, or if it is something that could be worked out. Below the site and example I am referring to.

    the site is: http://jt.france2.fr/

    There are three news video. If you click on the one marked 13HEURES for example, you get to this page: http://jt.france2.fr/13h/  and the video starts playing 4 segments one after the other (title frame, commercial, title frame, video)

    If you right click on the video during any of the 4 segments you always get the same name for the stream which is: http://publicite.francetv.fr/pub-france2.asx

    If I put this stream in Web Media, it will only play the first two segment then stops.

    Apreciate if anyone can tell me if there is a way to make it work.

    Unfortunatly this is a known limitation of Media Center itself.

    Although Media Center (and thus Web Media) uses Windows Media Player for playback it doesn't support all the features in Windows Media Player and playing .asx files is one off them. Some .asx files work and others simply don't.

    Cheers,

    Danee

    Thanks for the quick feedback. Actually it does not look like a limitation on MC, because if I paste the stream link into IE, it opens Windows Media Player, and I have the same problem, it plays the first 3 segments, then stops and does not play the video stream.

    I am starting to wonder if the problem is that the link I get in properties of the player, is only the link to the first 3 segments (the commercial), and somewhat the link to the main video is not exposed. Given the first 3 segments have a way to call the main video segment, do you know of a better way to search for the video stream link other than right click/properties on the player ?

    Thanks again

    Re: RE: [PlugIn] Web Media Release Candidate 1 (was Web Radio)

    If that is the case then it could very well be a faulty .asx file. an .asx file is basicly an xml file with some urls to streams in it. If the link to the .asx is on a webpage (or you know how to put it in a html file localy) you can right click it ad use 'Save target as...' and then open it with notepad to see the actual url. That may work for one stream, but the idea behind an .asx file is that it can be build dynamicly so the url can change. So you might end up getting it to work for now but it might not last.

    Cheers,

    Danee

    Edit, I saw the link to the url was in the post above, here's the content of the asx file:

    <asx version = "3.0">
        <entry>
        <ref href = "http://publicite.francetv.fr/320_240_F2_1.jpg" />
     <DURATION VALUE="00:00:03" />
        </entry>
        <entry>
         <ref href = "mms://a988.v101995.c10199.e.vm.akamaistream.net/7/988/10199/3f97c7e6/ftvigrp.download.akamai.com/10199/horsgv/publicite/956030.wmv?WMCache=1&WMBitrate=280000
    " />
        </entry>
         <entry>
     <ref href = "http://publicite.francetv.fr/320_240_F2.jpg" />
     <DURATION VALUE="00:00:02" />
        </entry>
    </asx>

    So there's only 3 items in there. I guess there is a playlist loaded and the second item in that one is the actual one you are looking for. Unfortunatly I can't test it as that site seems to be down.

    Re: RE: [PlugIn] Web Media Release Candidate 1 (was Web Radio)

    OK, so doing some digging I found the real stream pass which is:

    http://videojts.francetv.fr/publicite/jt-asx.php?chaine=2&url=mms://sdmc.contents.edgestreams.net/horsgv/regions/siege/infos/f2/20h/HD_20h_20070204.wmv

    If I put this path in Web Media, it works fine, after the commercial clip, it does find the video and plays it properly.

    Now the problem is that the date is in the file name, so I tried to replace the date by * (as I think I read somewhere you supported it), which gives me the following path:

    http://videojts.francetv.fr/publicite/jt-asx.php?chaine=2&url=mms://sdmc.contents.edgestreams.net/horsgv/regions/siege/infos/f2/20h/HD_20h_2007*.wmv

    Unfortunately, if I do this, then it plays the commercial, but never finds the actual video stream. Let me know if there is a different way to use the wildcard I can try.

    thanks
