If you are having issues with ehShell.res and recompiling ehShell.exe, just open ehShell.res with a resource editor and save it again.

Re: Media Center 2005 on a Windows 2003 Server

    Hi to everybody,

I run MCE on a VLK, so I had to modify the ehshell.exe
After disassembling and changing the IL_001 thing I couldn't recompile the ehshell
    with the disassembled ehshell.res.

I figured out that I had to modify the ehshell.res, because the download on this
    thread is not working anymore.
I had a look in the ehshell.res with a ResExplorer and found the Icon Group and
23 set to ?? and Language Neutral.

I set the Icon Group to IDI_APP and the 23 to NEUTRALSTRINGS.XML and the
Language to English (United States) and recompiled the ehshell just fine.

    after ildasm
    +- ICON GROUP
    |  +- ??
    |     +- Language Neutral
    |
    +- 23
    |  +- ??
    |     +- Language Neutral

    changes
    +- ICON GROUP
    |  +- IDI_APP
    |     +- English (United States)
    |
    +- 23
    |  +- NEUTRALSTRINGS.XML
    |     +- English  (United States)

    Turge:

    ehShell.exe:

    1. Install Framework 1.0 SDK
    2. Run "C:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\FrameworkSDK\Bin\ildasm.exe"
    3. Open ehshell.exe from mediactr.cab. Go to File > Dump and in the options dialog that appears afterwards make sure only 'Dump IL Code' and 'Expand try/catch' checkboxes are checked.
    4. Open ehshell.il in notepad and replace true in line "IL_001e: brtrue.s IL_002d" to false. Save it
    5. Delete ehshell.res and replace it with ehshell.res in the attachment below
    6. Open a command prompt and switch to the folder where you decompiled ehshell to
    7. Recompile it using "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\ilasm.exe /resource:ehshell.res /exe ehshell.il"

Credits go out to Cactus, Raphael and tmksnyder.

Delete ehshell.res and replace it with ehshell.res in the attachment below

    Where is it???
Been told to look here for it! and me can't find it :(

Re: Media Center 2005 on a Windows 2003 Server

    Hello,

I have tried this process of installing MCE 2005 on Windows 2003 (version 5.2 Build 3790.srv03_sp1_RTM.050324-1447: Service pack 1) several times and all runs well upto the point I make the changes to the systemprefix which I do with windows offline via a BartPE disk. When I reboot the machine back into windows I get the windows logo appear on the screen for about 2 seconds then the machine crashes and reboots and then keeps crashing and rebooting untill I load my BartPE disk again and reverse the systemprefix keep back to its original 2003 hex value.

Can anybody give me advice on what I am doing wrong or what the source of the problem is.

I have tried the following systemprefix values:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup "SystemPrefix"=hex:ce,13,00,00,00,00,3e,c8

which I aquired from a post in this forum.

    and

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup "SystemPrefix"=hex:d6,1b,00,00,00,40,43,0a
and this one I got from a clean install of XP MCE.

    Thanks in advance.

The machine is actually BSOD'ing with a SYSTEM_LICENSE_VIOLATION error. Reason why you can't see it is cause you have the machine set to automatically reboot.

You can read more about this violation error here:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/DevTest_g/hh/DevTest_g/t05_bugs_60_b1a64407-82d2-4fd4-9421-36fb10638fe5.xml.asp

For me, the parameters was that it was expecting WinNT, not ServerNT (ie, the first option).

So, go change it accordingly with BartPE, with some help here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/152078

You'll need to load the SYSTEM hive as "test" again, and modify the keys in ControlSet001 or ControlSet003 (I'm not sure which one is used - I just modified both)

Re: Media Center 2005 on a Windows 2003 Server

Would this work with Vista's Media Center or is that an entirely new can of worms?

Re: RE: Media Center 2005 on a Windows 2003 Server

Has this file been made available yet? I am in a holding pattern on this project until I get it.

If not would it be possible for someone who already has it to send it to me via email? billdillard@cox.net
