Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

My first attempt using the Clear QAM Beta code:

    1.       I downloaded code as directed.

    2.       Decided to do a manual system restore point. Just in case.

    3.        Ran the driver. First time I installed the driver it out a small "time-out" dialog box. I then noticed that MC was opened. I close and no error. The problem was there was no success confirmation, I am assuming it installed correctly.

    4.       Ran the “DemoAP_GraphMaster.exe” as directed in the pdf file. Let it run until it stopped. Found 279 Services. I am on Comcast in Denver CO.

    5.      When pressing the Export Guide button, again on confirmation. The button just clicked with no apparent action.

    6.       I attempt step “9” in the pdf and all I get is the “Done” and “Add Channel” options with the text “You have not added any missing channels.

    7.       I tried the scan a second time and stop it after finding 3 services. I again the export didn’t seem to work.

At this point I am stuck. Please help.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I am a little closer to gettng this to work. I added the digital antena option within MCE and now I can see the channels exported by “DemoAP_GraphMaster.exe”.

The problem is that there isn't any signal on any of the channels.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

    Bill,

Does your Comcast broadcast QAM in your area? Would be easy if you have TV with QAM/ATSC tuner build in. Also please tell me how did you connect cable, you need to conect directly from wall, bypassing Setup box to tuner (button RF plug where it says "Antenna")

During the scan do if QAM is avaliable you should see how many channels founds?

    Please let me know.

    Felix

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

    Felix:

There is no settop box in my house at all. My TV receives the over the air HD feeds via the cable as well as a couple of dozen standard definition feeds. I have a splitter in use to allow a wire to both the "Cable" and "Antenna" RF plugs.

During the scan I can see the number of channels found, infact I can see some of the channels "play" in the scanning software while scanning. When I am done MCE list about 20 channels but all come up with no signal. I went thought he MCE setup, part of the setup shows a graph of he signal strength of each channel so that the antenna can be adjusted, here too there was no signal being shown.

    DemoAP_GraphMaster.exe faulting module

I'm using Vista x86 with 2 M780s. The 2.5.0.20 beta drivers are installed properly.  After hitting Start in the QAM scanning app DemoAP_GraphMaster.exe I've received a module fault that immediately crash it.  This crash always occurs right after it finds the first QAM channel which in my case is 73.  Re-registered mpg2splt.ax, no help.

Faulting application DemoAP_GraphMaster.exe, version 1.0.0.5, time stamp 0x46f1ed30, faulting module mpg2splt.ax, version 6.6.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549bd12, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00028035, process id 0x488, application start time 0x01c8133066d57cad.

Also, the .pdf help file says choose the second choice form the tuner pulldown.  Mine has four since I have two tuners.  Hitting Select on the top two, appears to do nothing.  Tested with bottom two, same fault.

    Felixk:

AVerMedia Technologies just released  BETA Drivers (both x86 and x64)  and a BETA Plug-In for Windows Vista Media Center

Where can I find the 64 bit drivers?  I only see the x86 drivers.

    Thanks,

    Jarrod

I could not find any detailed instructions on installing the beta driver. Are you supposed to uninstall the old drivers first, or are the beta drivers designed to be installed over the top of the previous drivers?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Reinstalled fresh copy of Vista x86 last night, same problem with the qam scanning app and faulting module mpg2splt.ax.  Could it be my hardware?

    ASUS P5WD2, Pentium D 940 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, MSI 7600GT, 2 x M780s (one in x1 slot, one in x4 slot)

M780s are working fine for OTA and NTSC in MCE. Once I change the digital connection to the cable out of the wall and scan it crashes.  It did make it a bit farther, channel 80 something.

In order to install Beta Drivers, please unistall WHQL driver.

You can do it from Control Panel/Add remove Software, and select AVerMedia ....

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

So here is my problem, I have never been able to get this card to work in VMC.

My system: Athlon 64 X2 4200+, ASUS A8N-VM CSM, GeForce 7600GS, 2GB RAM, 300GB of HD (RAID1 and non-RAID), Vista Ultimate (32-bit).  I have the latest bios, chipset drivers, pretty current (2-3 months) video card drivers, and all Windows updates.  Everything else on the system works great.  I am one of the people who doesn't understand what other people mean when they have trouble with Vista. It works great for me; other than this. :)

I got the beta drivers to install after finding out I needed to go to Add/Remove Programs to remove the old drivers first.  I was hoping the beta drivers might resolve the issues I've had.  All of the various drivers I have used work in various programs like Orb, AverTV, etc, just not Media Center.  It is literally the only program that has any problem with this card for me.  I had been puting off looking into this.

So I follow the instruction in the PDF for adding the QAM channels, and it looked like it found quite a few.  I had used AverTV to view unencrypted QAM with the old WHQL drivers before without problem.  But TV in general still does not work in VMC.  If I go to "set up tv" from the main screen it gives me this message:

"The TV signal cannot be configured because no tuner hardware was detected. Please ensure your hardware is correctly installed.  If you do not have tuner hardware, you may purchase a tuner online from Windows Marketplace."

If I go to tasks->settings->TV the "waiting" wheel keeps spinning constantly, but it will let me click on "Set Up TV Signal".  When I do it gives me the same error as above.  Only now there is the spinning wheel that won't go away no matter where I go in Media Center.

Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on in my system?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

    Felix,

It seems to me that DemoAP_GraphMaster.exe is just a user-friendly prog for creating the mapping config file for channel/subchannel/frequency much like the HDHomeRun works.  Instead of trying to get this to work, is there a way to edit the config file manually and add those mappings?  I can scan and watch everything QAM in AverTv Media Center.

Also, on a related topic I have to ask, has Microsoft opened something up with QAM to make this work or is your driver doing the same thing as the homerun: "tricking" media center into thinking it's an ATSC signal?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

This sounds like something pretty basic. Have you gone into device manager and checked sound, video, and game controllers. You should have a bridge, capture, and tuner driver for each M780 you have installed. I am using 2 so I have 2 of each driver. Verify that the drivers are newest version ( the beta drivers are version 2.5.0.20 I believe). Make sure that all the individual driver components are loaded. When you go into tasks | settings | TV |Setup TV signal to setup your tuners, one of the first thing media center does is download some location dependent stuff. If you can't even get that far I can only assume something else has screwed up the registry settings or the drivers. You mention you have Orb, Avertv, etc. Are those applications still installed? I wonder of any of those installed programs have exclusive control of the tuner cards? That  no tuner hardware was detected says it all.  I know this is a pain in the neck, but maybe you want to uninstall those other applications, uninstall the Aver drivers for Media Center, reboot, reinstall the Aver drivers for Media Center again, and try the configuration routine again.

    Go Griz!!!

Thanks for the tips, but I have already tried all of that at least twice.  Whenever I try to get VMC to work with the card I set Orb (the only program I currently use it with) to not use the card.  I actually tried to get VMC to work with this card before I ever installed Orb and had this same experience.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

OK, the only thing that I can think of unique to Media Center is are the registry settings. Here are the settings for my first tuner. Why don't you look in the registry and see if these keys and settings are there for your card. Maybe that will shed some light on this. I sure wonder what this will turn out to be...
