Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I am running Vista Ultimate x86 SP1 and have a M780 combo PCI-E tuner card running the clear QAM plugin for VMC. I also have had the same problem with BSOD and APC_INDEX_MISMATCH errors. This primarily occurred when I tried to watch live TV after resuming from S3. It also occurred when I tried to switch from watching live analog channels to digital ones.

I updated to 2.5.0.29 drivers at the FTP site, but am still getting these errors. I agree with other people's posts, it seems to be a problem with AverMedia's card/drivers. I was hopeful that the new drivers would've fixed the problem, but no such luck.

Anyone else still having the blue screen of death and APC_INDEX_MISMATCH errors with 2.5.0.29?

I'm sorry I keep repeating myself, but does anyone know if the new drivers (.29) work well with MCE (WinXP)?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Running 2 M780 cards on Vista Premium x86 with TV Pack.  Uninstalled all Avermedia software and .27 drivers.  Loaded .29 drivers through Windows update.  re-ran VMC setup and found both analog and digital tuners.  Guide now shows only the 10 local HD channels and the 70 or so analog channels, nothing else.  Previously using Avermedia ClearQAM was able to get 10 local HD channels plus 10 to 12 SD cable network digital channels via QAM (Disney, Discovery , ESPN2, WGN, HGTV, ABCFam and a few others).  Now the cable network clear QAM channels don't come in.  I don't see any method to manually add clear QAM channels after the autoscan.  Is anyone else experiencing this problem of lost QAM channels?  Has anyone found a way to add lost QAM channels back once removed?  Let me know.

    Thx

I apologize in advance if this has been covered before but I just have to ask:

Has anyone had success using the AverMedia AverTV Combo PCIe X1 (M780) using this setup method:

How to get Windows Media Center receiving premium HD cable content without Cable CARD

The solution uses an undocumented feature of Motorola Set Top Boxes (specifically the QIP6200-2 in this case) to get the content.

The RF output connection (the ‘F’ connector labeled RF out) sends out “clear QAM” (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) in addition to standard NTSC signals. QAM is the same modulation technique used by the cable companies for transmitting multiple streams of high definition video through their cable infrastructures. Most people connect the RF connector from their Set Top Box to a NTSC tuner tuned to Channel 3 or 4 (usually a VCR). However, NTSC limits the resolution to 520 interlaced lines while high definition needs to go up to 720p or 1080i.

We simply put an off-the-shelf AVerMedia AverTV Combo PCIe MCE tuner card into a Windows Vista-based PC with Windows Media Center and let Windows Update load the appropriate drivers. This tuner card supports QAM connectivity in addition to NTSC. It also supports Over The Air (OTA) ATSC, but we did not use it for this installation. We plugged in the standard USB Microsoft eHome IR Receiver as we normally would and attached the IR blaster to the Set Top Box as we would using the lousy-looking standard definition S-Video solution provided by Microsoft.

We initially assumed that Windows Media Center would use the NTSC tuner capability and require us to use Channel 3 or 4 to match the NTSC output from the Set Top Box, but much to our surprise, the standard TV setup procedure found the QAM signal and used it for the TV input without requiring any other setup. It then asked us if we had a Set Top Box, which we configured the same way we normally do. Voila! We were receiving “in the clear” high definition video unencrypted by the Set Top Box. We can record it, copy it to other machines, and stream it to any number of devices we want.

I take it that they are saying that the Motorola STB is passing an unencrypted QAM signal of its entire lineup through its RF connector to the M780 digital tuner. I have a Motorola HD STB but it’s a different model. I may get around to trying this but I wanted to check here to see if anyone was able to recreate these results using the same hardware or similar hardware?

Is this the real thing or a hoax

    Thanks in advance!

This feature does exist in many of the Moto boxes and the cable vendor's software. Be aware that it is almost universally turned off by the cable company in most areas. I believe you got lucky.

Unbelievable.  Still gonna try it though.  I think it is best to get an idea of geographic locations where this actually works and with what providers.

    Location:  Western Suburb of Chicago

Provider:  Comcrap (tvguide on channel 95)

    Set-top:  DCH-3200

Please include what channel the tv guide is on.  I will post results by tomorrow.

In regards to the APC_INDEX_MISMATCH errors...I had never had a single one before upgrading to .29.  I had a perfect experience with whatever it is I had installed before(.26?).  I'm going to roll back and see what happens.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

My APC_INDEX_MISMATCH errors are not gone completely with .29.  I have them very infrequently, whereas before .29 I had them after every resume.  I have sent Felix the kernel dump.

I have two M780 cards installed.  Anyone having these errors with only one card installed?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

    Very Interesting,

I only got the APC_INDEX_MISMATCH when I had the TV pack installed. Since I removed that (restored to a previous version actually) I have not encountered it again. I also have 2 M780's.

    Go Griz!!!

I get the errors and I have only one m780, but I also have an ATI Theater 550 Pro analog-only card.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I re-installed .26 last night and discovered that I had to use the older QAM tool in order to scan for channels.  The newer version wouldn't work and that kind of thing always gives me a panic attack.  We'll see how this experiment turns out, but I had .26 running for like two months without ever experiencing an APC_INDEX_MISMATCH error before.  If anyone wants to try it with me I'll upload the drivers to rapidshare or something, since they're gone from the beta drivers site.

I sure wish someone could tell me whether or not these new Aver drivers (.29) work well with WinXP MCE or not???

You asked 4 times in this thread already. If you didn't get an answer, it's probably because no one here knows!
