Well I can anser the last question! Yes! There is a program called shutdown that comes with windows Vista. Just go into scheduled tasks and schedule shutdown to run as often as you want. Type shutdown /? at the command prompt and see all the options. Works for me!

    Go Griz!!!

This Aver card is my first excursion into the world of tuner cards.  I've noticed that the SD picture quality is much, much worse than having the cable go directly into the TV.  The picture seems soft, has significant ghosting and motion blur.  I can post a couple pictures if that would help.  I'm using the latest beta drivers, but when I tried the official drivers I got the same result.

On the other hand, the HD programming I get via QAM looks great.

It's interesting that the SD is marginal but the HD is ok. Check your signal strength. How does a regular TV look when connected to the same cable feed as the media center? My signal gets split multiple times before it gets to the media center, and I have 2 cards so it gets split into 4 cables at the media center. I bought a radio shack amplifier that is adjustable for gain and installed that right at the computer. I tuned in the worst channel and started adjusting the gain until it looked good, then checked all the other channels and they looked great.

    Go Griz!!!

yep, i have the same experience. HD looks the same whether directly through the TV or by using the Aver card. SD is washed out and contains blur just as you described. SD is MUCH better when viewed directly through the TV. in my case, the cable split (and therefore signal loss) is the same to the TV and the Aver card.

even though the Aver card sucks at SD, it's no worse (and i'd say it's actually better) than other cards i've tried.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

With me its the opposite. Analog Cable looks like crap using the built in tuner of my Sony HDTV, and looks much better on the AverTV. I have both cables running through a signal amplifier.

The AverTV uses some digiital comb filtering to clean up SD signals, this unfortunately isnt defeatable or adjustable.

While this can be pleasing to the eye to most, some folks just don't like the look of the processed video. That is probably the difference in what you are seeing. Its really a matter of taste. For whatever reason to me the Aver provides a much sharper SD pic than my tv can. I never watch SD using my tv's built in tuner but prefer the Aver instead. Again its a matter of preference.

I have the same issue as ivhjr with my HP m9100z Vista Home Premium x64 with the AverTV card and also get the APC_Index_Mismatch.  The BSOD started right after I installed the AverTV card.  I tried a reinstall of Windows, searched for updated drivers (which there aren't any that i can find) and i'm still getting the error, both before and after Vista SP1.  Any solutions for this one?

    Setup:
    HPO m9100z
    Phenom 9500
    6G Ram
    GeForce 8500GT
2 dual tuners (AverMedia M780 and Vixs PureTV)

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

For me the HD looks fantastic, but the SD is so bad, its almost un-watchable. There is no comparison between either the cable box SD channels vs the Aver card's SD channels, the cable box wins. In addition, comparing my tv tuner's SD channels vs the Aver card's SD channels, the tv tuner again wins, with the Aver card being just aweful. I would like to emphasize that the HD on this card looks great.

If anyone has good looking SD with this card, let me know.

FYI I am using a signal booster for all my inputs, and everything else looks great (http://www.amazon.com/Bi-Directional-Amplifier-Splitter-Booster-Passive/dp/B000WDR94U/ref=pd_sbs_e_3)

I have heard that some users have mixed two different brands/models of tuners and that it works ok, but then again I have heard a lot of wierd stuff. Early on they told us not to mix tuners, and I assume that is still true in spite of the rumors. I have 2 M780's installed and they work great.

I do. I have no problem with the SD signals i get from this card using VMC. Make sure you are suing decent cabling as well as a signal strength amplifier. The signal strength amplifier has no bearing on the actual quality of the HD channels, either you get them or you don't. It only should improve the quality of the SD signals.

Regarding the SD channel clarity, are you sure you're picking up your channels via QAM input, and not the Analog inputs?  There is a tremendous difference between the two.  I'm not saying that the picture is fantastic for the SD QAM channels, but it is a night and day difference between the analog feed and the QAM feed.

i'm not talking about SD QAM channels.... i'm comparing SD analog input using the Aver card to a direct connection to the TV tuner. in my case the TV tuner (Sharp LCD) delivers a much better picture quality than i can get through the Aver card. i don't seen any difference between a direct TV connection and the Aver card when viewing a digital signal.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

In that case, you are absolutely correct.  The analog output of this card is one of the worse I've seen.  But... just to be generous to Aver, the Happauge MCE150 isn't all that much better.

Since I get the same channels in both analog and qam, I just don't use the analog input.  The main reason I purchased this card was for the qam capabilites, and for that purpose, it's a good card.  I would use some other card if I had to get my channels via the analog, but some other person would have to tell you which card.  My only experience is with this card and the MCE150.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem.  It just looks like a bad A/D conversion that they tried to 'dress up' with some post processing.  I'll probably just split the signal using the Aver for my HD stuff and go directly into my TV for the SD stuff.

So, the only clear qam you receive are the HD stations?
