If someone can make available a really short atsc file, I'll find a muxer that will work right. I have nothing to do at work today except sit here and wait for quotes and yell at vendors so I have plenty of time.

Can you look around for a muxer (or a filter that can be placed in b/w the dvr-ms and the muxer) that accepts CC data and combines that into the mpeg???

The current muxer will accept ATSC video content, it just has problems with the audio. Which is strange, because it handles the audio from firewire recordings just fine.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Out of pure frustration, comes a utility now known as Crunchie

Crunchie v1.0 A delicious chocolaty dvr-ms to divx converter for Media Center 2005.

(btw: Crunchie is also a chocolate bar in Australia - not sure if it is in your area - lol)

Us aussies are unable to get any conversion utility to work in moving our dvb-t recordings to wmv format, you may have seen my frustrations in posts previously. They all fail or just hang!

So, one of my fellow moderators at the Australian MCE site http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au took it upon himself to give us a solution - he went down the divx path, and used utilities already available to get it to work...

And it works well - I have done over 80gb of compressed recordings and consistantly find the files get compressed to 35-60% of their original size.

It was developed by Arkay, and you can leave messages for him at the Aussie site, great guy, and has given us a really good solution - which involves the installation of DVRMSToolbox (used to convert to mpg), Xvid Codec (for the playback in My Videos), and mplayer/mencoder for the divx conversion, and of course the wrapper that puts all of it together - written by Arkay.

Additionally the crunchie application allows some parameters for file exclusions, supplying names or part of names for files you do not want to compress, and of course he has plans for other additions to make it more powerful.

There is no MCE interface for it as yet, it is a DOS based application, with a GUI configurator, but it is something that you could schedule to run each night if you wished, or to just run when you want.

So I mention it here, as it is based on the tool DVRMSToolbox - without this crunchie may have just been chocolate bars in the supermarket. And I saw in one of the first few posts of this thread, mentioning someone developing a divx plugin for DVRMSToolbox... well here is a solution you can download today.

Link to the crunchie thread, instructions, and download links: http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/showthread.php?t=1789 and remember it is still beta and only version 1.0 (but I have used it for over a week now without issues....)

    Enjoy.

why not write a action for dvrmstoolbox? you can leverage the existing framework (GUI, Commercial Removal, Processing Conditions, File Watcher,etc)...

this sort of thing is exactly why the tool is designed the way that it is, so it is completely extensible...

    New Version

    two new applications:
DVRMSFileWatcher - monitors a directory (usually recorded tv) and automatically processes the dvr-ms files that are created there. There's no longer a need to use scheduled tasks, run this tool and it will monitor a folder (preconfigured to use the recorded tv path) and run the tool on files after they are created using the Processing Conditions.

CommercialSkipAddin - MCE addin that uses the commercials xml file (new profile that produces these) to skip to the end (up key) or begining (down key) of the current commercial segment. Can be registered, and unregistered from the programs menu (it is not registed by default)

Thanks for the great useful tools!

Where can I get the latest version with the two new apps?

    babqVant,

Looks like some reall cool additions!  Quick question...have you added the support for the firewore HD recordings to this new version or is that still a work in progress?

    Thanks!

Very happy convert to SageTV! Finally, watching ESPN-HD in real HD on my HTPC without having to deal with the CableCARD fiasco!

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

    babqVant,

    regarding this new addin:

CommercialSkipAddin - MCE addin that uses the commercials xml file (new profile that produces these) to skip to the end (up key) or begining (down key) of the current commercial segment. Can be registered, and unregistered from the programs menu (it is not registed by default)

Do you think it will be possible to automatically skip the commercials via the XML file and not have to hit the down or up buttons on the remote - ie: automate the skipping of commercials completely. It's such a nicety to just watch a show without the commercials and not have to interact at all the remote.

    Excellent progress on this!

Firewire recordings should work, let me know if they don't...

(DVRMS2MPEGStreams will detect the need for a decrypt filter, only adding one when required; the orignal DVRMStoMPEG will not work with FW recordings unless a custom graph is supplied)

I thought about writing it to work like that, but decided not to primarily because if the commercials were incorrectly detected (or you wanted to watch a commercial), you wouldn't be able to watch that segment of the file, the add-in would always try to move the position to the end of the defined commercial.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Could I possibly persuade you to somehow have the option of auto-skip or using the buttons? I would so love to have it automated that I can taste it!

    Thanks again.
