RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

What I have read above makes my want look trivial but I would appreciate some assistance. I have two Hauppauge PVR150 tuners with the antenna sockets fed from a common signal source. When set up as 2 tuners (no guide, its not appropriate) all works well. I can view one channel, record two.

I also have two identical satellite receivers, same digital signal source, for which a guide exists, however, if I set this up, I can no longer access the analog channels within media center without resetting up the tuners as above.

What I would like is to use the guide with the digital signal source (which is connected via s-video cables from the satellite receivers to the the s- video inputs on the 2 tuner two cards) while preserving the option of viewing or manually recording any of the analog channels.

If this is possible I would appreciate a blow by blow description of how to proceed together if possible with an explanation of the effects of the changes.

    Many thanks

    Jim (daew):

RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

You sound like your using the UK or australian version of MCE. Its a little different than the US, we have seperate analog and digital support where you have one or the other. I don't know enough about the overseas options or anyway to test them to even know where to start. The best advice I can offer is start a seperate thread and/or look for community forums that are in your country. There is a pretty decent australian forum but I suspect this issue is more a localized problem in the uk.

lol I installed the A180 and hooked it up to the antena.  I get 2 spanish language channels and 2 BBC channels and they are slightly glitchy.

time to play with QAM signals

    Hi,

Thats exactly my problem, its one or the other. I want to select either from within MCE. There is no reason in principle why this cant be done. I am in Ireland using Euoropean software. I am also new to this forum and am probablly in the wrong thread

    Thanks

    Jim

RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

I keep throwing this topic off thread myself.

Ok first, i dont know anything about your version of MCE but mine here in the US we can only have 1 guide for analog, and 1 guide for HDTV.  Period, end of story blah blah.

hahaha scuffs!  everywhere but the us, there is only 1 tuner and 1 guide.  you either have analog or digital.  Itsnot like the us, their digital (most places) is like analog tv vs watching a dvd.  Their support is usually just a pal version of analog with different tuning spaces.

RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

Thanks for the hack... i was about to pick up the ATI HD card, but copped a Hauppauge MCE 500 (the famous dual tuner card) $130 ...

This brings my rig up to four tuners...

    (2) Hauppauge MCE 150
    (1) Hauppauge MCE 500

Because almost every post is missing crucial info, I have tested and benchmarked the four tuner setup and it works beautifully...

    I have;

    2800+ Althon XP
    768 MB RAM
    (2) Hauppauge PVR 150 MCE
    (1) Hauppauge PVR 500 MCE

40GB (ATA100) Operating and Programs Driver
    370GB Recorded and Downloaded Content [Dynamic Disk:Spanned}
    ----250GB Maxtor ATA100
    ---- 120GB Maxtor ATA100
40GB (ATA100) Download and Scrap Drive
    120GB

With all four tuners recording the CPU Usage hovers at 78%

eshell.exe 32% (If I am watching one of the recordings)
    ehrecvr.exe 20%
    erec.exe 2%
    MSI K8n NeoF Platinum AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400
1GB OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel Gold
    NVidia GeForce 7600GS PCI-E
    (2) Hauppage 150MCE
    (1) Hauppage 250MCE
    160GB Maxtor 7200 UDMA
    (4) 500GB 7200.10 SATA [RAID 0]

Very nice rig.  The real test will be 2 HD and 6 analog which will max out any MB I know of.  Im working on that setup just to see what happens.

with 2 analog, 2 digital, 1 sirius, 3 extenders, 2 other computers pulling hd content and a wmv-hd disk in the drive I go really close to 100% cpu, but my bus has no issues with this.

RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

Okay, so before I start playing around with my perfectly stable main MCE machine.... could you guys answer this question for me...

I'm based in the UK and use a PVR-350 toaccept my Sky Digital Satellite TV input via S-VHS, I have another machine upstairs (for the kids) with a Nova-T for the UK Freeview DVB system.  Could I use this hack to add the DVB card to my main system to enable me to watch say BBC1 on the Nova-T and record one of the Movie channels from Sky?

If this is possible then my MCE wishlist will be complete (apart from record TV buffer, video playlists, decent music library, and a decent company providing the UK EPG!) and the WAF will finally reach 10 (cause she could record Casualty while I watch my movies )

Cheers, tekno If it ain't broke... . TRY HARDER!

RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

    Unfortunately, no.

you can only have 1 guide in MCE unless you are in the US where we can have 1 analog guide and 1 digital guide.

This could easily be changed by microsoft if they wanted to.  They could do it the same way they did OTA HDTV vs analog tv.  Just make them use 1K plus.

RE: Howto: Setup 3 analog Tuners (Pinned)

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a hack to enable this functionality in Australia? We can only dream!
