RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
I think it is descibed earlier, but here's what you have to do: You simply add this XGR file into the same directoy as where you have AutoDVRconvert.exe. (its not needed anymore to have this in the same dir as your recorded TV, as it was with the very first version). Start AutoDVRconvert, and you should have an added option in the combobox (use graph). Also, change the output extension to WMV. after that, you're ready to start converting your files.

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Hi, I have written an application to convert dvr-ms files to mpeg files with commercials taken out (full source code will be available and it will be GPL). I only have dvr-ms files with standard stereo audio as I live in the UK. To test it fully could anyone send me (AC3 / HDT / Subtitled)/(PAL / NTSC) DVR-MS files .....as small as possible....? If you have created xgr graphedit files then they would be be helpfull...... thanks in advance charliedurrant at gmail dot com

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
@Heimiko & Danee
I've had a go at the conversion with my test file.
1) Changing the extension to wmv on the input screen doesn't seem to work. the output file came out with an MPG extension.
2) I don't think it is actually using the graph, even though it is selected. The output file is exactly the same length as my resulting mpg file from earlier.
3) Changing the extension to wmv manually, resulted in media player reporting an error that media file didn't match extension.
4) The directory change dialog buttons don't work? (I guess they aren't connected yet)
Off topic slightly
Using media encoder doesn't allow me to select a video file when I select a Broadcast Live Event from the wizard. I'm assuming there is no decoder it can use which seems strange. But is this related to the mpg file needing a decoder in wmp issue I raised earlier? Though as you said a ppc can't receive mpg2 media encoder should be able to broadcast it, and certainly wmv files.
But I am pretty ignorant of this stuff, though learning!

@Gordon Moore:
After making changes, please note that you HAVE to press the Apply button before changes take efffect. I guess you tried all this, without applying the settings. Please try once again.

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
How did you accomplish this? True image processing, or do you make use of the teletext feed?

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Is it possible to produce a version of this fantastic utility that would enable automatic conversion from DVR-MS to AVI without comercials? This would be the answer to my prayers as currently i convert my recordings to mpeg 2, manually remove ads and then use the excellent pocket divx encoder to convert them to a format suitable for playback on my Archos Gmini 400(a more labor intensive task than i would like and cant do it with my remote). What would be even better in some ways was to have an MCE plug-in with GUI which would allow you to select recordings to que up for conversion to AVI at night. Keep up the excellent work, if you can provide an ap as described above you should be snowed under in donations. Thanks Dave

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
bluemountaincof, I am writing a utility to convert to mpeg and then extract out the commercials. It is my aim to then run a further graph to convert to xvid (AVI) with defined compression settings. Heimiko, On a different note xgr files are no longer supported by Microsoft in current versions of GraphEdit. I can only assume that it is not possible to encode all the possible filter properties in the FILTER/PARAM elements. I am reverting back to using grf files in my application as I am concerned about graphs not retaining settings.

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Hi Dave, AutoDVRconvert does not (yet?) have capabilities to remove commercials from recorded television, but if I do understand the workings correctly (Heimiko, please correct me if I'm wrong) you can very well use it to convert DVR-MS to AVI-DivX as long as you have the right encoders on your system and the Graph to work with them. And to answer your second comment: I am currently working on the MCE UI for AutoDVRconvert that will let you select recorded television for immediate conversion (into any format you have Graphs/Encoders for) and will allow you to set up rules to enable scheduling of conversions (again into any format you have Graphs/Encoders for). I will be posting a story and screenshots shortly about this on my website. Cheers, Danee

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
GRF is in a bineary format, which is graphedit's own format. Good luck decodong on that one. For everyone else who has seen the "config" button next to the graph combobox, (not working just yet) this is where you will all be able to edit parameters and settings of the filters which are defined in the selected xml file.
@danee:
You're right, enabling AVI output is possible with the right codecs installed. You just need a little knowledge of how graphedit works, make the appropriate graph, and use it within AutoDVRconvert. easy does it. When AutoDVRconvert will reach a more muture state, some more default filter graph's will be included (MPG, AVI, WMV, audio only as WAV, MP3 or WMA, etc etc)

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Thanks for the quick and useful replys. I unfortunatly have no experience with graphedit and therefore am not quite sure how to create a dvr-ms to avi graph but would be most interested to find out if anyone has go this working yet. If they have maybe they could post their graph on here so i could try it out? I will certainly be watching with great interest to see how this app evolves, it seems to be one of the most promising ones under development at the moment. Thanks again Dave

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Heimiko, Danee, We are all heading down the same path at the same time. Would it be worth setting up a SourceForge project to bring this all togrther? This is what I have (in c#): A console app that can render grf & xgr files allowing the setting of input files and output files. Another console app that uses an inherited class that processes dvr-ms files to MPEG, analyses for adverts then strips them out. Thus combining the two apps we have DVR-MS -> MPEG (No adverts) -> XVID !!!!! Both apps use classes from a common DLL thus it is easy to build windowed versions. There is nothing fancy here and I am using principles that I did not invent ! My ultimate AIM is to have it integrated into MCE and allow the user to schedule conversions. Possible interface steps 1) Select items to process (can set to do all recoreded tv) 2) Low pririty thread copies the program and converts to MPEG 3) Advert cuts are recorded 4) Either automatically strip the ads or allw user to confirm. 5) Convert to XVID on a low priority thread I can do the above but don't have an MCE interface ! I am only interested in GPL as I have been given so much by the open source community and I want to give a little back. Another issue is that to mux the streams we are using a copyrighted muxer ( Monlight or Cyberlink ). If our ideas take off this is a long term concern. If we really want to get this right then we should first port MPLEX.exe into a direct show filter? my two pence worth......

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
I am currently testing with dvr-ms files that people have kindly emailed to me.....If you can post a short clip stripped down with dvr-edit (available on the downloads) then this will help.... As to the release, I expect I will be able to release a reasonable alpha product by mid next week at the latest. It works on my machine, but that is the easy bit !!! Charles

RE: NEW: Automated DVR-MS to MPG conversion utility!
Knowing what filters to use in GraphEdit at first seems to be guess work. Please find attached a graph to convert to xviid ffdshow is the beta version of the ffdshow library. This is configured to encode to xvid. This graph may be different from what you may be able to create on your machine as insteadof the Moonlight Odio you may need AC3 filter (search on the web) if you have dolby sound. If you can't get it work, be patient as my software can do this but it is not ready to reelase. Charles
