    You should find that it is only the BBC stuff that does not work with extenders - this has been mentioned already - and it is due to the way the BBC uses flash video rather than actual video files. It does not carry the sound through the extender.

    ITV and C4 stuff should work fine!

    The other thing to do is to make sure you get sound on your PC.

    You need to copy the files over, because even if you set it to Program Files, it will install to Program Files (x86) - so you need to copy the files over....

    thanks for the very fast responce,

    i have dont that and now it appears to be working ok but now when i select a program to watch it takes me to another screen with a x in the top left corner where the video should be. this is down to the security settings in ie? not allowing unsigned activex components to run automatically. im new to all this vista stuff as i only installed it yesterday and i cant seem to find the option in the internet settings to auto allow this can anyone help???

    The best thing to do is to make sure you can play the video through internet explorer first - that can sometimes prompt for downloads of new versions of plugins. Check out here for FAQs that generally help people get this working;

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    I've just migrated to Vista MC and have installed TunerFree MCE.

    However when I load the program the screen display seems to get a little upset.

    The square box placeholders appear it takes an ages for the thumbnails to arrive. if I try and use the remote to move around the screen a full list of TV channels pops up and overwrite the grid display.

    I'll try and take a screen capture later, but does anybody have any idea why the screen is so untidy?

    thanks

    Thats just currently what the UI looks like - I believe the author is currently working on making it look nicer - but don't take my word on that.

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    I have had a number of suggestions for UI changes for TunerFreeMCE. I have been working on them for the past few weeks, and now have released version 1.5 with those changes. Main changes are;

    1) Pre-cache all of the programs for improved speed. This means it will take a long time to load first time, but much faster on subsequent times. The cache is stored in a local file, so it only goes out to the internet to get programs that may have been added since the start of the last day it has data for (i.e. it will always look for at least 1 day, to allow for things added throughout that day). The exception to this is C4, who don't allow retrieval by date, so I have to get it all every time. If you use the software several times a week, it will take 10 seconds to load. It you use it once a month, it will take a minute to start up, because it has less cached data locally.

    2) Progress indicator for loading, so that you can see how far through the loading it has got.

    3) Removed the "Home" link

    4) Added the ability to view all programs at once, not just one channel or date or category at a time

    5) Added the ability to group programs

    6) Auto navigate to the programs when you pick a list item

    One open issue is that ITV keep playing about with their html format, so sometimes their program titles don't come back, which means the programs only show when looking at all episodes, not grouping the episodes.

    And the BBC have said that they are adding better RSS feeds and higher resolution feeds from iPlayer soon http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2008/06/bbc_iplayer_20_sneak_preview.html, which should be interesting to uptake.

    Good to hear that the iPlayer is getting an upgrade.

    Do the screenshots relfect the new changes or have they not been updated yet?

    Re: BBC iPlayer addin for vista MCE

    I've had reports from one or two people of the screen hanging at "Loading Cache" when you open if for the very first time. I am not sure why, but if you click back and go in again, it moves past that - it only happens the very first time.

    Cheers M8.  I will give it a go tomorrow.  By all accounts you should be very proud.  Thanks.
