Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

I didn't make it....am pretty sure it came from Realtek.  Not sure about downmixing DD5.1.  I had a problem in that I wanted to send my MCE digital signals to a 2nd audio source for remote room receiver.   I only had SPDIF passthrough to my receiver, but unfortunately, my receiver would not output a digital signal through the 2nd audio output.  So, after installing this driver, I'm able to use my SPDIF output to my receiver and analog output to my 2nd receiver.

Take a look at the thread here (in the comments section)

According to the poster they asked realtek if simultaneous output was possible and they said it was, but microsoft didn't allow it. But then later they sent an e-mail with the file to change to allow both outputs to work.

I'll certainly be trying this when I get home.

I hate it when that happens!

Well I've given it a go and can't get it to work. Using the v1.70 realtek drivers for vista 32 bit.

Anyone else had any luck. If so, do you need to set any particular settings in the sound setup for it to work, as it still seems to only let you have 1 default output.

Did you download and extract rtkhdaud.dat to C:\Windows\System32\ ?

I put the extracted file into c:\windows\system32\drivers (note the extra dir) as it mentioned in the earlier post. Could you confirm which one it is? Thanks

The file is tiny isn't it, it's only 8 bytes.

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

My guess is you need to drop it where ever the old one was.  Rename the old one rtkhdaud.dat.old or something so you can save it and drop the new one in.  You can always go back to the old one that way.

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

I reinstalled the latest version of the realtek drivers (via the .zip download instead of the .exe), this time it seemed to work.

For me it only works if I've got vista set to analogue output (i.e. my 2 speaker setup), then I get digital output (but only stereo). If I switch to digital output with 5.1 speaker, then my analogue connection doesn't get any sound. Which is not the same as in XP, where the digital had 5.1 sound and the analogue had stero.

Is that what everybody else gets as well?

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

    Yep, that's the situation here.

Vista set to analog = stereo signal out analog and digital.

Vista set to digital = 5.1 out digital and nothing out analog.

The realtek driver update that was posted here yesterday didn't change anything for me.

    Perhaps the Vista SP1 beta?

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

This has been something I've been trying to solve as well.

I have a Media PC in the media room that I wanted to send 5.1 to my receiver but also send analog to a couple devices that I use to distribute HD video/audio via cat5 to the other rooms in my house. The answer was in a reply in this thread - use a M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 (~$80) http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Audiophile2496-main.html. In the native Windows Sounds control panel it adds three entries - Analog, SPDIF, and Multi. Multi sends to both. It's a bit tricky to configure it to actually get it to send both (the trick - after much tinkering - is within the card config to switch their spdif and analog outputs on the Patchback Monitor tab to "Monitor Mixer" vs "Wav Out" and on the spdif config set). The card has 2 sets of analog outs and 2 sets of digital coax outs and, once configured correctly, works like a charm. It's the only one I found that does both analog and digital at the same time.

If you go this route I can give you more detail to the specific config. Good luck.

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

Are there Vista drivers for the Audiophile 2496?

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

I really don't know. Vista is not listed in the compatible OSs on their webpage (but it doesn't say it's not), but it specifically says XP MCE isn't compatible and it's working for my machine running that.

    This thread says no: http://www.audioforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17936

I'd call their tech support and ask for sure. Sorry to not be more help.

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

Hello, I have an Intel D965OT MB which has sigmatel audio chip.  Is there a solution as the reltek mentioned above?

    Appreciate for any tips/tricks.

    Thx. Hn

Re: Simultaneous SPDIF and Analog audio output.

I think of buying a new MediaCenter system. It will have an Asus P5B Plus Vista Edition motherboard.

I would like to play stereo sound on my TV speakers and 5.1 audio through TOSLINK on my receiver.

    Will this work?
