RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

This is a great app. I built an MCE 2005 machine over winter holidays. Love the thing, absolutely love it.  The TVR functionality is great, I like the way it handles my many photographs, but I have been very disappointed of the way in which all my neatly organized iTunes data wasn't read properly.  I spent some time trying to use Tag&Rename, following a long and painful set of convoluted conversions, and still the data was not right.

Haven't really messed around much with MCE in the last few months in terms of any tweaks and such.  But out of 10 min of pure boredom, I come across this amazing app last night.  Run it, and it seems to work Miracles.

One problem though: I can't seem to sync my playlists.  All I am interested in doing is wiping out whatever built-in WMP10 playlists there are, and copying the very few iTunes playlists that I have.

    Does the app sync SmartPlaylists?

Any other suggestions as to why I get Fail on all the syncs and the process just seems to try to repeat itself over and over again?

Any ideas are welcome. And to the author, THANKS AGAIN!!!

Do you have the latest version of the app? 1.51. It has a sync playlist button. Or are you doing it and it's just not working? The app does sync Smart Playlist, but recreates them in the other app as a regular playlist.

As for the sync fails can you be more specific about what you mean by a fail, and is it on a specific file? Also what do you mean by repeating itself over and over again?

I'd like to help you out.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Great thanks for the offer of the help.

    1. I have the latest version of the app.

    2. The actual "ALL DATA" sync (or whatever it is called, currently at work and don't remember) works fine. No Fails, sync'ed all my info great.

    3. What Fails is the Playlist Sync. I run it by hitting the Sync Playlist button. It starts the process, and this is where the multiple FAIL messages are seen at the bottom of the program (in the "notification" area).  I don't remember if I get an error pop up message or not, but in the end, the process restarts itself, because I get the popup asking me if I'm sure that I want to wipe all the WMP playlist data to be replaced by the iTunes playlist data.

    Any thoughts

The multiple alerts may be for each playlist (but I was pretty sure I fixed that bug). The fails would be for files it finds in one library but doesn't match in the other. If you have previously done an ALL sync this shouldn't really happen though...

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

I had just done a sync.  It went completely fine.  There is a small discrepancy b/w the number of files in itunes and WMP, the difference is about 50 files out of 4000.  I am 100% sure that these 50ish files or so are my non mp3 files (acc).  It doesn't really bother me, as they are not of much interest and there are so few of them.  I don't have the codec installed that would allow me to play those files, I know, while skiming the 10pages of this thread that there are instructions (more or less) in there, I just haven't had time to get around to that.

Although I think that these acc files are unlikely to be the ones that are in any of the playlists, I guess that would be a good next thing to check.  I will look at it tonight.

Even if it could not match some of the files it should create the playlists and the files it can match. Did it create any playlists?

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

No, it appeared to have done nothing at all.  Currently I have very few playlists on the MCE machine in iTunes, probably the standard ones plus one or two more.  It did not delete the standard WMP playlists (I think it may have deleted one playlist that I created in wmp), but it did not create any iTunes playlists.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

OK, I did find a couple of minor bugs:

1: Pop up warning for each playlist instead of once per sync.

2: Buttons were not re-enabled at end of all sync

I have fixed these and I am currently testing it. Neither of these bugs however would really change the end result.

I am going to add a warning in that will display when a matching file can't be found in the destination library, that might give us some clues.

MusicBridge won't delete any playlists, it may clear one and refill it...

I'll finish testing and post a new version later today.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

I apologize, in advance, for not scrolling through all 100+ messages in this thread. My question might already be answered. If so, please just point me to the answer.

I run iTunes from my desktop computer and listen to music on my MCE by using the built-in network connection inside of iTunes which allows my MCE to find my desktop system and play music through the iTunes client.

Using your application, can I do the import of iTunes music to my MCE if my iTunes library is not located on the MCE system?

    Thanks!

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

This would only work if the network share where your music files were located was the exact same location that WMP10 uses for it's library, which is doable.

RE: Application to help sync your WMP and iTunes libraries

Do the files in iTunes have to be in AAC format?  I used Musicbridge, but it only added fifty something of my 1400 songs.  They are in mp3 format, however I have other mp3s that didn't get added.  Help.

    Thanks

Can you give a more detailed explanation of exactly what you did. As well as any output in the status box.
