    Cowboy:

Good as far as the explaination went. So you got 56 channels; that sounds pretty good for South Jersey. So for the rest of the questions I asked.

Are some of those channels music? How many?
How many actually have watchable program material on them?
Why do you believe only 2 are HD? A lot of HD channels carry non-HD program material.
Did you go into the guide and edit the listings so that you will get the program listings for the channels you did get?

Finally, as to your comment about duplicating normal NTSC channels, that's to be expected. You will have duplication for a lot of NTSC channels.

no music channels. about 5-10 with watchable programs. about 3 are in spanish lol.
i havent edited the listings yet.

    thanks for your help!

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I have been using AVer MediaCenter software with the QAM beta driver on my MCE2005 HTPC for quite some time. The reason for using AVer MediaCenter is that I want to use the S-Video input from a Tivo or VCR.

I wish there was a way to configure an AUX channel in MCE for the S-Video input. I can fake a set-top box to enable the S-Video input, but I lose all my analog cable channels since MCE assumes I am getting those channels through the set-top box. The lag is not a major issue for me since I am watching video anyways.

As far as the QAM channel integration with MCE, I get about 70 channels (~10 1080i or 720p), another 20 or so audio channels. I am too lazy to manually remap the digital channel numbers, so I just memorized the 10xx numbers for some of the channels I care about. I suppose I would look into getting the OTA guide mapped to the QAM channels eventually.

I even managed to get an old ATI tuner working with MCE as well, so I can watch & record two different analog channels though I normally use my Tivo for time shifting.

I have the M780.  Cable comes out the wall and gets split.  One goes into my TV, the other into ATSC port on M780.  My TV has a built in ATSC/QAM tuner and all the channels pick up fine.  In VMC using the M780 I only get 68 channels.  So I remove old drivers and installed the beta drivers.  Ran the scan tool but it finds no services in either STD or HRD.   I have comcast (zip 48842).   Help!  I followed the PDF instructions but nothing scans.  I switch the cable from ATSC to OTA and still nothing.  Zero service after complete scanning.

OK, believe it or not, almost everything is working: fabulous picture quality, SPDIF audio, etc.

However, the CBS HD reception is now gone. I'm almost positive that the channel and guide are correct. I added an amplifier which made the other local HD channels much more stable.

Here's the question: What do you do? Can you suggest a strategy which doesn't nuke the hard work? I started the Avermedia scan program but was warned off by the threatning confirmations of the dialog boxes (lose the guide, lost setup in VMC, etc.)

What's the best (non-invasive) strategy to pursue the last of the HD channels? Thanks in advance.

Worked the problem out. Went surfing back through the guide channels that were deslected and found the HD version of CBS. Did it at night when the programs are 5.1 digital so the video receiver indicates HD.

I am having the same problem with my 780 as well.  Any ideas out there?

I believe I was having problems with the auto installed .27 drivers that Windows put on the system.  I kept losing my digital channels from the guide.  I could do a rescan inside of ClearQAM and find the channels but for some reason they would not remap back to VMC.  I uninstalled .27 drivers, reinstalled .26 drivers ran rescan in ClearQAM and rebuilt the guide.  All is now okay.  I'm gonna watch to see if the digital channels fall out again.

When setting up the tuners and guide in VMC I always use manual setup.  Autosetup has not worked for me yet (except for when I used OTA signal).  When using autosetup VMC always says that it found 2 tuners but is only setting up one.  I don't trust that and think that it's probably only then using one of the M780s (not both).  After manual setup for 2 tuners and finding the guide I do have to do some manual channel listings admin but other than that my M780s and VMC have been working like a champ.

The thing that I dislike about VMC is (much like someone else mentioned earlier) that you can't set up an S-Video input device to capture from unless it is a sat box or something that needs an IR blaster.  I want to use VMC to capture old VHS tapes as dvr-ms files and then transfer them to DVD or other editing programs but each time I try and set up the VCR as an STB in VMC it always says "no IR blaster detected" and fails the setup.  That is really lame in my opinion.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I've been using the .26 drivers for a while now, but recently, my VMC has needed to be rebooted in order for the TV tuners to work.  About once a week now, I get a message that no tv signal was detected for my QAM station, and my shows don't record.

When I try to go to the guide to tune in a QAM station, the wait-circle spins for about 60 seconds and finally gives up and the screen turns black.   When I reboot, the QAM stations tune in just fine.

    Anyone experiencing similar issues?
    Thanks,
    Jon

yes, i see the same thing. i've always had this problem, and i don't know if it's VMC or Aver. at one time i had my HTPC hibernate instead of  going into standby, and the problem occurred more often. now that i have it do standby when idle the problem is less frequent but still there.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

FWIW I have been using the .27 (X86) drivers for weeks. I have been getting all the guide updates without any problems. I have not lost any channels (Comcast) and have not had any problems with scheduled recordings. However, I do not have my computer go into hibernate or standby. I have it connected to an APC UPS and every night at 12:00 midnight it shuts down on a command from PowerChute. The next day it restarts at 4:00PM and everything works smooth as silk. I am cautious about using standby and I wonder if some of the tuner problems I hear about are the result of the tuners being unable to recover from standby or hibernate.

    Go Griz!!!

I'm having the same issues, not only with the Avertv Combo, but also with the Hybrid Volar Max (USB).  Only difference, with the Volar Max I don't have to reboot, I can just pull the usb plug.  After plugging back in the Qam stations tune in again.

I have been using Qam and Analog fine for a while but now I can't record analog.  I am able to watch analog and watch/record Qam.  Whenever I try to record an analog show i get an error that there was no signal even if I am watching the channel.  It use to work perfectly and I don't know what changed.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I'm having a problem that I'm hoping someone might be able to help with.

I have the m780.  Had it configured and working for about a week.
Woke up this morning and Vista no longer sees it being installed.  Here are the steps I've taken so far.

    I uninstalled the drivers. Reinstalled.

I uninstalled, removed card, restarted.  put card back in, reinstalled drivers
    Still Nothing

The ClearQAM utility doesn't even see a device as being present?

Is there anyplace in windows to see whether the card is being seen by the computer?

    hubs99,

Take a look in the device manager under "Sound, video and game controllers."  There should be 3 items listed.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)

I have Vista Ultimate running on a HP Invent. laptop with 2gb Ram. I split the cable comming out of the wall, one goes to the TV and the other goes to my Laptop.

I just cannot get my AVerTV Hybrid Volar MAX USB 2 to work. I went to Avermedia's web site and downloaded and set up the AVer MediaCenter:1.6.5, and also installed the

    1.0.0.70_SwEncoder3.2.1.81_AVIN1.1.0.7AVAMP1.0.0.3 drivers.

I went into Vista MCE and set up the TV signal. It picked up all my channels, all 200+ (I have Cox Communications), and when I go to watch TV thru MCE Vista, it says that my siganal is too low and I look at a black screen.although I am able to see the channel and am able to change channels, all that shows is a black screen.

I have uninstalled all the drives and reinstalled just the

    1.0.0.70_SwEncoder3.2.1.81_AVIN1.1.0.7AVAMP1.0.0.3 drivers, Makes no difference.

What could I be doing wrong?

    Thanks.....
