Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
myn: mold: myn:Do these beta drivers support bringing in guide data for the QAM channels into Media Center allowing for scheduled recordings?
yes, they do.
Interesting. How does Media Center pick up the guide data for these QAM channels? The reason I ask is today with my HDTV Wonder I add subchannels .2 , .3 etc and Media Center never is able to bring in the guide data for these OTA channels.
Configure VMC to support digital TV and select the appropriate guide for your zip/provider. This makes the guide data available, but you still have to manually map the Aver digital channels to the appropriate guide entry. So QAM channels with guide data ARE supported, but only after you make the necessary mappings.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
Sorry if this has already been asked, I've searched for an answer but couldn't find one.
I'm planning on upgrading my PC to MCE2005 (Vista is not an option) and using this as my sole card.
a) Will I be able to use this card standalone without a 2nd analog-only tuner? b) If so, can MCE2005 record/view analog and HD via this card simultaneously?
I'm planning on buying this for college and am on a bit of a budget, but I like the looks of this card since it includes a a remote and I don't have enough space in my machine for dual tuners. I won't be able to have HD at all if I need to purchase a 2nd analog card (USB?) just to keep MCE happy since that would be outside of my budget.
Thanks!

Yes for both A and B. This card has a digital and analog tuner that can be used independently of each other. I'm using Vista, but I'm 99% sure it is the same for MCE2005. FYI, I don't know if they sell a package that has a MCE compatible remote, but the one that mine came with didn't work for MCE.

Awesome, thank you!
I'm crossing my fingers on the remote- the website claims
"AVerTV Combo PCI-E MCE
includes Windows XP Media Center, Windows Vista Home Premium/Ultimate
certified Remote Control with a receiver".
If not, I can probably work something out one way or another...

mjcliffrord, I don't know if you got your error 13 issue resolved yet, but I get this error but if I try it a few times, it will work. If you try multiple times and it will never go through, your prefs files could be messed up. Try deleting all three of these files and then re-running the aver channel import then the guide setup.

There are different packages of this card sold: the retail version and the whitebox version. The retail version includes a remote. The whitebox version does not, and consqeuently is a little cheaper.

Thanks so much for the reply. Nothing worked for an entire day. It all worked the next. Go figure.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
Hi everyone, I'm new to this whole VMC/TV Tuner thing. That being said, I've set up my HTPC with the 780 tv tuner and am trying to setup Clear QAM to see if I can tune in some free HD channels. I'm located in South Jersey close to Atlantic City and I have comcast.
So I use the QAM scanner tool and it comes up with 333 services, 56 of which are unencrypted. Only two of them are HD though? TNTHD and YHD. Anyone else get so few channels? I ran the scan mode under STD, filtered by unencrypted. 333 came up, but a bunch were encrypted and only 56 came up selected. Alot of these channels seem to be repeats of the analog channels. Something I'm doing wrong?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
I now have the Media Center installed in the home theater and it appears to be working well. One question: Does VMC pass through (via SPDIF) 5.1 surround sound?
I have the Comcast PVR also hooked into the home receiver and the same program triggers the decoding light and the icons for all the speakers. The home receiver shows Dolby Digital 2.0 for the same program from VMC and the AVER card.
Please advise.

I have a similiar set up and yes, VMC should pass the 5.1 audio through to the reciever via spdif. For some reason I couldnt ever get the aver apps to do so but VMC does it just fine.

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
A lot of large questions. Why do you think you only got 2 HD channels? Did you export them all to the guide and try to view them in media center? Comcast has 40 or so music channels. Did you get any of those? I'm not sure what you are doing wrong if anything. Tell us exactly what you are doing.

here are the steps im following. running the qam scan filtering for unencrypted. shows about 333 results, 56 of which are selected automatically with the little checkbox, the rest show a padlock logo, so i assume those are encrypted. i export those 56 channels into VMC, go to add missing channels and delete that one that im supposed to delete. it adds the channels starting at 1001 through 1056.

Go to the silicondust channel database and see what channels you should be receiving. Does comcast carry HD local channels on their HD boxes?

Re: AVerMedia released AVerTV Combo PCI-E x1TV Tuner (Analog and ATSC/QAM Ready)
Good as far as the explaination went. So you got 56 channels; that sounds pretty good for South Jersey. So for the rest of the questions I asked.
Are some of those channels music? How many? How many actually have watchable program material on them? Why do you believe only 2 are HD? A lot of HD channels carry non-HD program material. Did you go into the guide and edit the listings so that you will get the program listings for the channels you did get?
Finally, as to your comment about duplicating normal NTSC channels, that's to be expected. You will have duplication for a lot of NTSC channels.
Go Griz!!!
