That's a great idea, given the way the tools work it should be relatively easy to do that.

I'd be happy to provide guidence if someone wanted to create a gui like that. That being said, enhancing the GUI isn't on the immediate roadmap (the main purpose of this toolset is to process dvr-ms files in an automated fashion requiring as little intervention from the user as possible).

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Thanks.  That worked (the only conversion I've been able to get to work).  The action to create 2 separate MPEG streams works.  I'm very interested in getting this application working.  This would be extremely useful (especially removing commercials from DVR-MS and resaving them, converting DVR-MS to MPEG with or without commercials).

So I understand the current version can't find commercials in a combined MPEG file.  However, it won't even create a combined MPEG file without commercial detection (the profile you shipped with the tool: "Convert DVR-MS file to MPEG" never works for me).  What about the profile: "Cut commercials out of a DVR-MS file and output DVR-MS?"  That doesn't work for me at all in this version either.

Will the next version fix these actions or is there something going wrong specific to my system?

Note that I also tried to use: "Cut out commercials, convert to WMV" and that didn't work either.  Each time one of these fails, it seems the first time I press [Run], nothing happens, I have to cancel and press it again, after which I get the failure.

I also tried to create a profile that created 2 separate MPEG streams, and then cut commercials from that, but I got the following error after the streams were created:

    Conversion Complete
Find Commercials in temporary MPEG file
File -  - does not exisit.
    Parameter name: MPEGFile

I imagine this is a profile defining error.  Any idea what I might have missed here?

    Thanks,

       John

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

    Hi

I have downloaded and installed the DVRMSToolbox, but just cannot get it to work. Basically i have been trying to use the GUI as not to complicate matters. But whenever i choose an input and output file and click RUN, not matter what options i choose the Run button greys out but nothing ever appears in the Dialog box, and the hard drives do not appear to be doing anything. But if i then cancel the running coversion and start it again, it starts to run and then dies will the following log file output.

Processing actions, this may take some time!!
Convert DVR-MS file to output MPEG
Building default XML graph for DVR-MS to MPEG

Trying to create COM object 'filter graph' with guid 'e436ebb3-524f-11ce-9f53-0020af0ba770'
    Created COM object 'filter graph'
    Exception from HRESULT: 0xC00D002F.

I am not really sure where to begin, i have graphedit but am at a bit of a loss as where to start.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

all of the profiles use the original dvrms to mpeg conversion action.

looks like you found a bug, I'll take a look tonight.

there's an option in the menu to generate the cmdline, can you do that and try executing that from a cmd window? you can capture the output by adding " > output.txt" after the text it gives you.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

You actually gave this suggestion to Gareth, not me (in reply to my message, you said I found a bug you'd look into), but the symptoms he describe sound identical to mine.  I suspect he didn't test the create 2 MPEG streams (separate audio and video) and that they'd work for him as they did for me.

I tried what you suggest (copy the command line to the clipboard and execute it in a cmd window), and the behavior was identical to the GUI (same as both he and I described).  The problem isn't in the GUI.  Note it may have something to do with muxers we previously installed on our system and interactions/precedence or something like that.

I think we also found a minor bug in the GUI, in that in this situation, it greys out the run button and doesn't do anything the first time, rather than running and getting the error the first time.  However, the more serious problem is that the command line doesn't actually work for anything other than 2 separate MPEG streams on our systems.

I'd have dvr-edit and DVR-Ripper installed.  One of these might have brought in an incompatible component.

Thanks again.  I look forward to using this package.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

Thanks for your reply, unfotunatley i cannot get the copy command to clipboard to work, whenever i click it it fails with the following error message "Copy to Clipboard Failed". I think something is seriously wrong with my install, i think i shall un-install and start again from scratch. From what i can tell the error has something to do with a corrupt file, but these files play perfectly in media player/center, plus the process fails immeditaley it starts which i find hard to believe that in that amount of time it has been able to check the files?

By the, i'm not sure if any of this matters, but all my recording are on a seperate SATA drive, with the O.S on a different IDE drive. I am also in the uk, and recording pal dvb-t recordings, maybe it has something to do with this?

    Cheers

shouldn't be the disk setup, I have a similar configuration... strange that it cannot copy to the clip board, haven't seen that before...

    babqVant,

Did some interesting tinkering last night with GraphEdit and one of these files.  A friend pointed me in the direction of trying a different Muxer...after some trial and error, I settled on using the Moonlight M71 Muxer and just piped the file into that muxer, dumped it to an .mpg and it worked perfectly within GraphEdit!  Tonight I plan on pointing the command line process to that graph and see how it goes.

RE: DVRMSToolbox (GraphRenderer): Automated commercial removal, convert to mpg/wmv

in the next version, the current dvrms to mpeg action will be replaced by the new dvrms2mpgstreams action... all of the functionality is the same or greater(except for the /gf option with the original) but the graph is built explicitly, so problems with dynamically building the graph should go away.

I've had this problem myself, but I haven't been able to consistently reproduce it, so I haven't been able to isolate the cause.

I looked into using that muxer, it might fix the audio sync problem some people have been having, but it doesn't work with ATSC files so I didn't pursue it beyond initial testing.

If someone who's been having audio sync problems can give it a test and see if it fixes the problem, I can include it as an option on the action to create mpgs.

Is trying to get the Closed Captions, CC, out of the DVR-MS a futile effort or was any progress made by anybody?
