Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

I'e just today completed a re-install of Vista Premium SP1 and can report that I am still having the two main issues of the screen going black when stopping a recording and the screensaver problem of the audio kicking in when having previously been on pause.

I'll uninstall (KB950126) and see what happens but I'm intrigued by the previous claim this update now supports UK PAL 50htz. I may give that a try first as I've been waiting for this al long time.

    Vista Premium SP1 TV Pack 2008, Athlon 64x2 4200+AM2, 2GB DDR2 RAM, SATAII WDC WD25 7200rpm 250GB, MSI K9NGM2 MS-7252v1.1, SONY DW-Q78A DVD-RW Drive, Hauppauge NOVA-T 500 DVB-T 99101_LF_revD8B5 & Media Centre Remote Control

KB950125 Provides support for 50Hz output for HD models, providing better quality.  Applicable primarily to PAL-based regions. Not KB950126

Oh! thank you for that Richard. I was wishing for native 50htz support for our DVB-T service (Freeview). Nevermind. At least it bodes well for when I go HD.

Right got you. Already have a Linksys DMA2100 and fortunately that does PAL 50 with better picture than that of our Media Center PC which is connected directly to the TV. Problem there is the ATI drivers and I've had this out with them for months over that little issue. Thanks again.

    viktornordling -

It is possible that there was some type of bad guide data offered for Sweden that resulted in corrupt datastore and resulting crash bucket.  If that's the case, then uninstalling SP1 or KB950126 would not resolve.  We're still looking into this.

So I uninstalled the update and both the above issues have gone. Fortunately I've not experienced and crashes / reboots YET!

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

    Tim,

Thanks for the tip, that is actually how I resolved the system. I followed the advice on this page:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/articles/526231.aspx

and removed the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Ehome\EPG folder. I have not had any crashes since.

However, before that I uninstalled several patches and now my TV reception got significantly worse. Most channels are too dark and some channels have a lot of static. If I switch to normal TV the channels look fine. Do you think reinstalling some patches might solve this?

Also, is there a way to fine tune channels without doing a full new scan? I find it a bit frustrating becuase I then have to readd the program guide for all channels.

    Cheers,
    Viktor

Thank you so much, this thread solved all my problems!
And it's also refreshing and assuring to see Microsoft's involvement in this community - it's always good to know you're being listened to, and Microsoft has always excelled in that even more than companies like Logitech and Creative (eveb though the latters are hardware and not software manufacturers)

Most companies wouldn't buy a website to improve relations.

    ... it is refreshing.

    Hi Tim,

I have to go back to XP MCE 2005 because my Vista installation is much too unstable.  I get blue screens very frequently.  Has the fix to prevent the restricted content error in media center using analog cable been applied to XP yet?

    Thanks,

    Craig

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

    Craig -

Frequently blue screens are an indication of driver issues - have you insured you've updated drivers to most current?  Often, this means from the vendors own website.

If you do go back to Windows XP MCE 2005, I posted about the fix in http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/276519.aspx

Re: Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

    Hi Tim,

Thank you for your quick reply.  I think you are right that my problems are driver related.  Unfortunately getting drivers is my biggest problem because my computer is a Sony VAIO VGC-RA920G.  I have the latest drivers from Sony which haven’t changed when Vista came around.  I think that is my problem.  After some research, I found out that my motherboard is an Asus model.  When I go to the Asus website to look for the model number which is printed on my motherboard, I cannot find it.  I figure that Asus must do that to prevent having to give support to people who by preassembled computers.  This is the last time that I buy a computer premade by a company like Sony.  I feel compelled to use my computer for as long as I can since it cost $5000.  Unfortunately the lack of support by the vendor is preventing me from running the latest operating system reliably.  Please let me know if you have any ways to access drivers that could help me.  I can give you any details that you require.

    Thanks,

    Craig

Re: Update for MeCumulative dia Center for Windows Vista (KB950126) is now available

So..... the unpause when minimizing, black screen when you hit "stop", the [done - restart - delete] window not appearing at the end of the recording is a result of this update? Is the fix to just uninstall this update? Is the update going to be fixed at some point?
