    ngRC: sign of life

    Hallo,

thanks for your feedback. I have made a list of things, you have requested, can you please extend it, by features you are missing and want to see in next release:

    - In Music, please allow sort by "album artist" as this makes it much easier to find an artist.  My artists are populated with so many extra listings because of tracks that have multiple artists.
    - A "album artist" sort would help narrow things down to find a specific album
    - Please allow sorting by "album artist" after choosing a genre, for the same reason listed above.
    - I'd really like to see an "Add to playlist" confirmation notifcation, as I added the same album to the queue several times thinking it was not working.
    - It really should be called "Add to Queue" not playlist.
    - Also it would be much better if you can actually access the VMC queue from ngRC don't think this is currently possible. So you can see what albums are queued up to play and double check the ones you have added are listed.
    - Back Button is not working correctly
    - Font too small
    - better iPhone Support
    - Keyboard support via API, so no Focus is needed
    - Green Button should start VMC
    - Make faster, less memory
    - extenders.txt not in Root Dir
    - Disabled Addin Popup
    - Buttons not always working in English Version
    - Artist instead of author Author
    - EPG-Integration
    - Video-Integration

    Thanks for you Feedback!

    Hi Schulzor

Glad to hear your thinking about the next release of your very cool software!

You got my word doc I posted on Source Forge that pretty much covers everything I felt needed addressing in the next release. I'm sure others can see that document and add their own comments / feature wishes they would like to see.

Keep up the good work and keep us all posted on any new updates to your software.

    Cheers

    Re: ngRC: sign of life

Hi I am new to wireless but have a bit of experience with pcs already.  I cannot get connected to my-IP:8080/ngrc for anything.  I added exceptions on port 8080 and the other one mentioned on tcp/udp in my windows firewall and router.  I have a belkin b/g router and a belkin usb wireless network adapter.  In firefox it says that there seems to be something but it cannot connect.  I have been looking for a progra that can do this with my psp and yours looks great.  I really want to get this working!  Any advice links suggestions. etc would be greatly appreciated.

Of course you know what the next step would be, to be able to control TV and Videos and Pictures.

Currently your app just puts you in to that location in Media Center, longer term I would like to see:

    Videos:

To be able to see a list of my video folders and video files, not just from the watch folder location in WMP11 / VMC (which I don't use), but also from file shortcut paths as we all use shortcuts in the default Vista media folders to point to our video / picture media locations where ever they are. i.e. C:\Users\Username\Videos and C:\Users\Username\Pictures or the public folders. To be able to start playing a video then control it, pause, stop, fast forward, rewind, Zoom etc etc.

Same deal with Pictures to be able to see the folders and start a slide show.

TV: See the guide, schedule new recordings, see existing recordings and play and control them etc etc.

I think your software is extremely good and already streets ahead of what MS is doing with SideShow. (New beta 1 Media Center SideShow Gadget released etc). I would pay good money for a fully finished applicaton such as ngRC and I'm sure many others would.

Better Ipod touch / Iphone support / interface would be good, don't own those devices currently but I would buy an Itouch just for the sole purpose of using ngRC on it.

    Cheers.

    Re: ngRC: sign of life

    Hi,

as you already now, I am still working on a new version of ngrc. So I wanted to know your opionion on something:
would you prefer the interface as it is like now (leaning very near to the original Mediacenter Interface) or would you like to see an interface that would be better usable for common mobile devices, maybe more like sideshow.

Tell me your opinion and ideas!

    Thanks

I'd like both to be honest. The current UI is nice and I like it, it suits the Sony PSP well that I am using it on. If I was to use the ngRC UI on other devices such as a SideShow device then I guess you would have to change the UI to a more basic text type version.

I personally would love to see a kick ass UI for an Ipod touch and I would buy that device to use ngRC.

Keep up the good work and give us all some feed back on what you have planned for the next version ?

    Cheers

I'd vote for the Media Center Interface.  Let Sideshow be sideshow.  Stick with the touchscreen type interface on higher resolution screens (i.e. Oragami, Nokia N Series, Ipod Touch, Touch Pannel Windows CE, etc).

    Hi Schulzor,

LOVE this app, I use it with my iPhone and it works great.  UI is good, but the font is a little small, especially the lists.   Also, the control buttons (the arrows in the round thing) could also be bigger, maybe fill an entire screen.  Is there and XML that I can modify my self to change this?

Thanks again for this fabulous contribution.  I will donate.

    New Blog/Website for ngRC

    Hi,

I am making good progress with the project! There will be many good improvements in the next version!

BTW: I just wanted to tell you, that I have set up a Homepage/Blog for all of my projects. I want to concentrate all questions/suggestions, presentation, downloads, updates, etc... to one central place. There you will also find a forum, where I will answer your questions, etc... In that blog I want to give you an inside view of the progress taking place for ngRC, it should act like a diary, where I tell you about the thinks, that I am actually working on, so check it out at http://www.olphro.de/wordpress

Tip: You can register the RSS Feed on the News page to stay actually informed!

Please keep in mind, that this page is still not finished in building up, so there are some parts missing... but they will follow soon!

Excellent news, I will be following this project with great interest. These two things have been mentioned before but pretty critical.

    1. To allow ngRC remote control to work when mouse focus is not on the MCE application, i.e. dual display setup, monitor 2 is for MCE, monitor 1 is primary for Windows OS. I have a feeling this will be difficult if not impossible to do.

    2. A bit easier, allow ngRC to launch the MCE application if it is not already running.
