    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    I Got this to even work with MCE 2005!!!!

    steps:

    Install the latest drivers for your HD card.. I have the 1600..  Install the QAM search tool.

    Reboot

    Run the OTA setup for the standard DTV signals, including guide setup.

    Close Media Center

    Create the Directory "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft"

    Copy the eHome directory from "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\" to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft"

    Run Media Center and run the "Clear QAM Setup" in More Programs, Use the MOUSE!

    If you get any errors, if there is a continue option use it.. if you are lucky enough to have VS installed, debug and skip the line causing error.

    Reboot when asked..

    Once your box comes back up Copy the contents of "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\Prefs" to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\Prefs", Reboot again

    (Alternatively you can do this before the reboot, but I didn't do it that way, and my setup works, so this is what I suggest)

    Once your box is up, Open Media center, If your new channels don't show up in the guide Do this:

    Open up the file ""C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\EPG\Prefs\atscprefs.xml", have it open on the screen.

    in Media Center - got to settings, Guide, Add Missing Channels, Add DTV Channel.

    you'll see the standard [  ]- [  ] Dialog for adding DTV channels.. in the first box, add the channel that shows up in "Major",  Once you get through all the different "Major" Channels, save it and reboot your box.

    If you can figure out what the extra channels are for, you can map them to a Affiliate, or another channel in the guide via the Edit Digital TV Listings, also in guide.

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    Ok I'm new to all this vista and media center stuff, I have had vista a week now and the tuner 2 days but I should be able to get this to work. I have read this and other forums about this topic and really want to get it going successfully.

    I have a happauge hvr-1250 tuner in my pc. Its connected to comcast basic cable. I want to get all the analog and the clear digital that my samsung display can (just locals) in HD on the media center. I have called Hauppauge tech support and was told I need a different tuner to do this. my tuner is a single hybird and I really need a combo that will support quam and NTSC on different tuners to do it with media center. I was also told this is still in beta but I could get it to work and to look here. So what I want to know are two things.

    1 what tuner will work best forwhat I want to do? the tech suggested the 1800 and I can probably return mine to newegg and buy that no problem.

    2. Is there a place or a post that lists all the patches, updates and other things I would need to install to get it working right with the correct tuner. if not can someone who was sussessfull post it.

    thanks in advance for your help

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    go back a page (p5) and there are step by step instructions for what to do.
    I got it working with my 1800 using those instructions... it was pretty easy.
    It contains the registry changes for:
    HVR-1250, HVR-1290, HVR-1500q, HVR-1800, HVR-1850
    so I'd imagine it would work with any of those.
    post here if you have any trouble.

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    ok thanks. I have tried the registry change last night. that didn't do anything for me. Still only analog tv, no quam. :(  I was told I can not have both by a hauppauge tech with my tuner, is true? Is the 1800 2 tuners on one card? one NTSC/Cable, one ATSC/Quam? would I need a better tuner or is what I have workable?

    I'm not sure if its the hardware I'm using or if I am missing or didn't apply a patch correctly

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    yes, the 1800 has two tuners an NTSC and an ATSC/QAM

    I assume you did all the other steps too, and installed all the updates.

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    yes I did all the other steps. my computer was not a clean install of vista, pretty clean, less than a week out of the box and media center was never ran before I added the tuner, tv pac and updates.

    the 1250 is a single tuner card though.

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    So I have mine partially working.  My 1600 can recieve the HD channels but for some reason my 1800 cannot.  I've done the registry add for both cards.  My 1800 is using the 4gb beta drivers.  My 1600 is using the Microsoft update drivers released sometime in October of this year.

    At first it was randomly working.  Sometimes the HD channels would show, sometimes it would say signal not found.  It was probably because it randomly choose which tv tuner to use.  So I removed the registry entry for my 1800 and it is working on my 1600 now.

    When working alone with the 1800, the only channels it could find are the music channels.  Everything else says no signal found.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks.

    Where can I download the Ready Play?  The links all point to a MS page that no longer exist.

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    No luck for me. I get a pin error pop-up when I try to run it.

    Vista Ultimate
    PVR-150
    HVR-1600 (74041, so QAM-Ok)

    It sees the ATSC channels. I've had them working before over an antenna. But I run the Hauppauge scan and it fails out.

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    Don't bother with the Hauppage Plugin/Scan (that didn't work for me either); go back a page or two and do the upgrade for Windows Media Center TV Pack 2008 (aka Fiji). That works, and works well!

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    biocoder:

    No need to mess with the plug-in! Just get your hands on the "TV Pack 2008". Here are the directions I followed that someone else posted elsewhere and I modified based on my installation.

    1. Reinstall Vista Ultimate 64 and all drivers (NOT HVR-1800 yet) (I chose not to do a clean install. I had one problem, but I don't know if it was related to this. I'll explain later below.)
    2. Update windows
    3. Install HVR-1800 and BETA drivers from Hauppauge USA website (4 gig memory drivers) (I have the 1800 so i installed this driver. I also found a newer driver, v1.3x on hauppauges ftp site, but i used the v1.27 after trying both of them out, it appeared that 1.3x had some pixelation)
    4. Install TV Pack 2008 ( http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2331431,00.asp ) (search for it on the web, you're bound to find it somewhere. http://kenmouse.blogspot.com/2008/09/windows-media-center-tv-pack-2008-rtm_25.html)
    5. Install Ready Play (from MS download site.)
    6. Install 2 patches (see link above for all files) (KB951685 and KB950754 from MS download site.)
    7. Update windows (you will see a cumulative update for TV Pack too)
    8. Open the registry (run/regedit)
    9. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\HCW85BDA
    10. Add new Folder (key) and name it: Parameters
    11. Add a new DWORD to that and name it: AllowQAM_PowerToy
    12. Make the value for the new string: 1
    (here are the regedits for the other type of HVRs)
    ; HVR-1250, HVR-1290, HVR-1500q, HVR-1800, HVR-1850
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HCW85BDA\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

    ; HVR-1600 (only some models support QAM; should list them here)
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HCW18BDA\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

    ; HVR-USB2, HVR-1950
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HCW73BDA\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

    ; HVR-950q
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HCW72DTV\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

    ; HVR-2250
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcw89\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcwPrx89\Parameters]
    "AllowQAM_PowerToy"=dword:00000001

    13. Restart system
    14. Load Media Center and go through setup
    15. For TV signal, it should find both tuners, when asked for which guide to us, I had several choices, but i went with the digital selection and it worked fine. Some people have tried all the choices to get different results, for this one you are on your own. (I had both analog and clearQAM signals and continued. When setting the channel listings, I chose the "analog" listings for my area for the analog signal and chose the "digital" listings for the digital/clearqam signal. Then came the scanning for channels...read below)

    The part that did not work for me was the scanning for channels. I scanned and scanned, rebooted, reinstalled different drivers, but  VMC kept reporting "0 channel(s)". So finally I decided to move forward and see if i could add channels manually. I went into the "Guide/Edit Channels" settings and found that there were a bunch of channels enabled and disabled. So i went through them and tested most of the ones that were enabled and most seemed to work just fine. As for the QAM channels. They were also in the listings, just not enabled for some reason. I found the channel codes by using this site, http://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/channels. The channels matched the "channel" and "program" digits. I enabled/added the channels, clicked on the channel for editing it's settings. Then clicked on "Edit Listings" to set the listings for the channel. Since I had chosen the "digital" listings for the digital signal, the listing for all the digital channels should be there. You can scroll through them or if you know the call letters, you can also type the letters and VMC will search for them. Then I found the digital channel listings. And that's it. Finally got QAM working with VMC. No need for WinTV.

    here it is, quoted above

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    I think I have an idea.

    I already installed the TV Pack. It's nice seeing the digital channels near the regular ones, as opposed to being 1041 and on the opposite side. Plus it seems to intelligently say what it'll record as needed. (As only one tuner of mine is HD. I'll fix that soon)

    But just to check, where should I split the feed between the cable box and tuner?
    Should the ClearQAM be processed by the output on the reciever? Or should I split it before then?

    Re: Hauppauge Releases QAM Plug-in for Vista Media Center

    Those look like great instructions and all but I've got a couple problems. The beta 1.27 drivers are nowhere to be found anymore and "Install Ready Play (from MS download site.)" What the heck is "Ready Play"? Can't find it to download anywhere from MS or anyone else.

    Thanks in advance!
