Any word on an update to support editing DVR-MS files? I've been looking for something like this for some time now.

    Thanks!

You may want to check out TV Collection Manager, it handles TV shows in dvrms well. I haven't tried the DVD portion.

Re: SUMMARY: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

I have written most of the code to handle DVR-MS files (based on Stephen's Toub code). I hope to work on it this weekend and have something working by Monday.

DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1 WON'T INSTALL

This looks like a very cool application.  However, I can't get it to install.  I downloaded the zip file from http://www.taranu.net/download/dvdlibman01.zip, which I'm assuming is the latest version (0.7?) even though it still has the 01 at the end.  I extract all files, and run the setup program.  It comes up with a dialog box that says "cannot start application" and "Application cannot be started.  Contact the application vendor."  When I click on Details, I get the following:

I am running Vista Home Premium, and I run as the Administrator always, so I don't have to deal with UAC problems.  Any ideas on how I can get it to work?  Thanks in advance.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1 WON'T INSTALL

Any update on the availability to edit the DVR-MS metadata?

If not, are there any other programs available like this one that does edit the metadata? I have ton of ripped TV shows of DVD and saved as DVR-MS files. I would love to find a program that can grab the series info from Amazon or IMDB and save it direct to the metadata. Does anything exist....I can't find anything. I tired TV Collection Manager, but it doesn't seem to write the metadata...

    Thanks!

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1 WON'T INSTALL

I am having more problems than anticipated. Updating/reading of data in DVR-MS files is no problem but I have problems with VMC caching data and not showing it even after updating the files and restarting VMC. I am still looking into it.

The only way I know that the metadata will update is if you either rename the file or move the file. When I update metadata I just move the file and it updates, then move it back. A little anoying, but not that big of a deal.

I was trying to find another solution but I think your solution will work just fine.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1 WON'T INSTALL

Do you happen to know why I can not get the Small Icons view to work?

I can do Strip View and Large Icons View but when I click on Small Icons view it is the exact same as Large.

The XML shows the largeCoverParams and smallCoverparams both pointing to the same file. Is this correct?

I can not figure out how to get Small view. I am using Visa Media Center

Taranu, how's the function for editing the dvr-ms metadata coming along? I can't wat to have a program that can do this for me.

    Thanks!

Re: SUMMARY: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

Taranu ... this is a cracking app you've written so thanks very much for all your hard work. I've been a My Movies user for a couple of years and whilst that's good I do find that it falls over on me quite a lot, takes a little too long to load a DVD plus meta data and it's very slow in comparison to DVD Gallery. You've really cracked it with this and made a good interface in the Gallery, great!

Couple of possible improvements have come to mind whilst I've been usng it the last couple of days:

    • I agree with others that the text info is best from IMDB and the image from Amazon. Why not let the user decide which they go to for what? Personally I like to keep the sources consistent if I can so the viewer gets a consistent experience when navigating (e.g. I like the fact that IMDB puts their score in as their headline). How about setting up a split window which goes to whichever source the user chooses for one and another (or same) for the other in parallel? If they don't like what's returned you could always give them the option to change the source for that piece os data (ie either words or pictures). That would cut a pretty short two step process into a very short one stepper
    • A auto-populate for new DVDs with no data would be great too (if you could stipulate favourite sources like above)
    • If you have My Movies xml files in the DVD folders your program won't save the new xml data when trying. Deleting MM files temporarily and retrying solves this but not sure why

And I know it's not in your court this one but I would love to be able to pull my .mkvs in so I can have everything in one place ...

Brilliant brilliant work though ... thanks for your effort to date

Taranu, this program is working great.

Any update on the dvr-ms metadata support? I'm can't wait to have a program that can do that.

    Thanks!

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1 WON'T INSTALL

I am not satisfied with how the DVR-MS editing works. I'm still having problems with VMC not clearing its cache. The current method with renaming doesn't seem to work as smooth as I would like so I'm looking to make it more robust.

Meanwhile I've uploaded a new version. I still need to test a bit more but seems to be Ok:
    - Shows all the .XML files in the DVDInfoCache folder, even the ones which don't have a corresponding DVD on the hard disk. This should allow for updates to DVDs in DVD Changers and allows you to delete meta data for DVDs that you don't have anymore.
    - when saving the meta data, the cover art image is also saved to the default name so there is no need to first save the coverart first and then the meta data (unless you want to save the cover art to another name).

For those using DVD Changers please let me know if this works for you for editing the meta data.

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

I must say, AWSOME program, this really kicks a$$. I tried My Movies 1 and 2 for a while, it looked like a 2005 program, didn't fit with VMC and I have to run SQL server on my HTPC ????

So far so good, after all this is the first I have played with the DVD library in Vista. One problems I had with this program when I tried to save the dvd info the "DvdInfoCache" was not there, so it kept on asking me to quit and not save settings. I went and manually created the folder and it then it saved fine.

The other one, when I was testing the movies, I would stop one, then try another one, then the one just I stopped would play again, it would not select the other movie I selected. Had to try 2-3 times to get the movie to play. I'm not sure anyone would actually do this every day but, it's there, not sure if it's a M$ bug, or something here.

Things I'd like to see...(if they are there, let me know, I could not find them), and I read through all the posts...

    1. To be able to save the "DvdInfoCache" on the drive where the DVDs are. I rebuild my VMC box every 6 months. I'd like to be able to set it up, load your program, and bang, everything is back the way it was.

    2. More Meta Data ! Actors, etc. Just like when I save a movie off the TV guide. To make the full Media center experance.

    3. To be able to set all movie stuff from this progam and not have to set up anything besides 1 folder in media center (or be able to do everything from media center, even better)

    4. Support for other formats, I have some HD movies done in MP4 and AVI, it would be cool if I could use them here....A better format would be great, DVR-MS ?

Great Program, looking forward to progress, This was EXACTLY what I was looking for....This made my day to find this !!!!

Re: DVD Library Manager for Vista Media Center v0.1

Thanks for comments! If you look back to the thread you'll find some ideas on how to centralize your metadata and coverart, etc. (symbolic links or junctions is what you want ). Not perfect solutions but they will probably help.  I have a few things that I want to improve but I'm just getting very little time right now to work on the program. I'm just wating for a break here and there.
