I think the wall is using the Hi-Res images, it can't be using anything else we have no cached images.
It must be the view the way VMC renders the images in the wall compared to the Album Details view.
When on the wall I can see a difference between a cover image when not selected and when it is selected for example a cover with a black background looks a lighter shade when not highlighted but when highlighted the black becomes more black. This happens on other colours reds look a deeper red when the cover is highlighted.
