In regards to getting HDHomeRun working with QAM could someone point me in the direction of a set of instructions that will work with Vista?  Thx!

hmm surprised they don't just make an atscperfs.xml for you when it scans.

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

I received my unit today and hooked it up this evening and it gives you qam in MCE2005. Something you have to wonder why in the first place did they only have OTA. Some of us are unable to get any type of OTA signal.... well ok univision is like the only ones so cable is all we got.

Now there is finally a solution. Finally.

re the atsc xml file... the qam mapping utility makes one for you. But I guess why its still in beta as its not as straight forward as it will be. Perhaps once dual tuners are supported it will be as easy as installing the software and it will map to the epg easy peasy.

So would this be an equivalent replacement for my Motorola DCT6200 on Comcast?  I'm using firestb now.  I understand HDHomeRun would recieve the "in the clear" HD channels, but what about the channels from 100-699 that you still need the STB for?

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

It will only pick up unencrypted digital signals so if your digital channels 100-xxx are in the clear it will pick it up as well. For my provider it picks up the digital versions of the local channels ABC/NBC/CBS/FOX/PBS as well as their all weather traffic channels.

Most cable providers encrypt the rest of the digital channels (ie G4, AZN, etc...) so you will still need your STB.

Most likey Vista will be the answer to this portion.

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

Mine is not here until Thursday and I have a related question. I currently have 2 Motorola boxes and am recording via FIRESTB. Can I get rid of one of the cable boxes (keeping 1 to access channels above 100) and then use the dual tuners in the HDHR to record 2 HD channels at the same time. Most of my need for dual tuners is to record 2 shows at the same time on the major networks. I would love to get rid of one of the cable boxes but I'm not sure if I can do that. Any ideas?

Right now only one tuner of the 2 is supported. But when that support is enabled, yes you could record 2 shows at the same time.

I really like what I hear, but guys help me justify this so I can throw down some cash.

If I have a DCT6200 with FireSTB, why would I want to get a box that supports QAM?  I already receive all the non-copyprotected shows, so I won't get anything new, right?

I'm not trying to be a wise-***, just trying to decide if I should jump on this or not.  I suspect it may be more reliable than FireSTB which has been finicky for me.

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

I want it for live HD (finally!!!!) Also, I am running Vista and cannot see the "in progress" fire recordings so I cannot do the trick of starting a recording and then starting to watch it as it is recording. Anyone know why this changed from 2005 to Vista??

If youre getting what you want via FireSTB then I would leave it as is. The HDHR allows one to get unencrypted qam without a STB and it be intergrated from within MCE.

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

Stay with Firewire, my HDHomeRun works great for what it does, but it wont do everything you want.  I was hoping that Sci-Fi would show up but it doesnt, It doesnt use macromedia like HBO does, but it still wont show up.

The best feature of the homerun is on demand.  Watching other people fast forward through on demand content is actually kind of fun.  You also get to peak into what your neighbors are watching.

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

My HDHomeRun has been setup and running since Friday.  It all works just like advertised but, I only get 3 HD channels.  How many channels are you guys getting in your areas?

Re: HD Homerun- QAM Support working!!

I get 5 HD stations (abc, cbs, nbc, fox and pbs) also the assorted dtv of the networks with their traffic/weather channels. I didnt bother mapping those as all I really wanted was the HD.

Im just as happy as can be that qam works in media center sinces i cant pick up any ota (ntsc/atsc) because of my location.
