Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Jack,

So if I want movie metadata to show up in the Video Library interface, what steps would I take to populate the metadata automatically? Do I have to hand edit each xml file or can I auto-populate, using the extension you use of the original TV Library. If I go that route, how do I set it up?

BTW, I'm using the TV portion of Video Library and it works flawlessly! Just one question; A couple series have not matched and downloaded metadata, how do I get those series to match? Rename the series? The series names I use seemed to work for a couple scrapers I used previously.

Oh, one feature request. This may have already been requested, but is it possible to tag watched episodes with some sort of graphical tag? I have so many episodes it's hard to keep track of what I've watched.

    Thanks a bunch!!!!

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    timmy,

    1. Unfortunately, for now, you may have to handjam the metadata you want in there because I have no agreements w/ any of the metadata scrapers to export to my xml format. Such an arrangment was not necessary because I was downloading metadata myself. What I meant by 'extension' was that I based my format on the original tv library as well as thetvdb.com.  if you want to set the movie covers, make sure you name them as [filename].video.cover.jpg.

All I can say is wait for themoviedb.org to get us an API :-/. I was considering Amazon but don't want to get into any entanglements there.

    2. For those series that don't match do you have a [foldername].series.xml file in the .metadata folder or a [foldername].folder.xml? What is the format of the files in those unmatched series? Can you post a sample filename?

    3. Yes, that's been requested before. I just haven't decided how I want to display it or change it.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Hi JackLuminous,

Not sure if you saw my post earlier, but would like to know if you have the answers to the following:

    1. Why is the status message: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: '0'  Key being added: '0' coming up in my series.xml file when I have deleted the .metadata files for a TV series that previously had data downloaded? Can this status be reset?

    2. Should the app automatically transfer season covers to the season folder, or does this need to be done manually?

    Regards,

    Mark

    1. I ahve seen this before but have not yet solved it. Are there any duplicate files?

    2. Yes, it should set the covers *at the time that the season metadata is setup*

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Jack,

Here's an example of a series I'm unable to pull down episode metadata and images for. It pulls down the initial info for "Samantha Who.series.xml" in the .metadata folder, and the actors.xml in the provider cache folder, but not any of the episode metadata/images.

The directory structure is as follows: \\TV Shows\Samantha Who\Season 1\

The filenaming structure is as follows: Samantha Who - s01e01 - Pilot.avi

    Samantha Who.series.xml

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <Metadata>
      <Title>Samantha Who?</Title>

      <SubTitle />
<Description>This single-camera comedy introduces us to Samantha "Sam" Newly (played by Christina Applegate), a psychiatrist and hit-and-run victim who awakens after being in a coma for eight days, only to find she has amnesia. With no memories of the past, she must rediscover everything about her life and herself by looking for clues from her past. Sam discovers that she wasn't a very nice person to most people and she is determined to change that. She also discovers that she cheated on her boyfriend Todd (played by Barry Watson) with a married man. Sam attempts to live with Todd after the accident, but soon realizes it won't work and has no other choice but to move back home with her parents. Sam even learns that her "accident" was no accident at all, but a failed attempt at someone trying to kill her, but who? Slowly but surely little parts of her start to emerge to the delight of some and to the shock of others. Will she change or will she act like she did before her amnesia?

The people that Sam has to rely on aren't all what they appear to be. Sam leans on her parents after she awakens, but has no idea that she hasn't spoken to them in over two years. Sam thinks that Dena is her best friend, but Andrea, her real best friend, lets in be known that Sam and Dena haven't even spoken to each other since the seventh grade. Andrea on the other hand is hiding a lot of Sam's wild past from her, which could be disastorous. And then there is Frank, the door man at Todd's apartment. Up until the accident, Sam had never spoken a word to him, but one days ends up saying hi to him and is shocked to learn how observant he is.

Production companies are ABC Studios &amp; Brillstein-Grey Television.

The show was originally called Sam I Am, but changed to Samantha Be Good because of copyrights issues with Dr. Seuss's estate and his legendary children's book Green Eggs and Ham. It was later changed to Samantha Who?</Description>

    timmy,

thanks for posting that because it helps a great deal. (Editors Note: again, this is why "it doesn't work" is not enough for me to go on. More info up front helps) The <status> property indicates a bug "illegal characters in path". I'm guess that it was trying to do something with "Samantha Who?" as a file or folder name which is invalid. I'll look into it but can't give you an ETA right now.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Thanks Jack,

It's interesting, because I don't know if any files or folders have the "?" in them. I'm pretty sure I stripped that off all of them, but I may have missed one or two. Also, maybe it's just that thetvdb series name contains the "?". I'm experiencing the same issue with "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" which I renamed all the files and folders to be "Terminator  The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (without the ":") In any case, I'll double check all my files and update you. Thanks again!

Re: video library app for viewing videos/movies and tv episodes with metadata

It occurs on the main page in my setup, with all the different series banners, eg arrested development, californication, curb, etc.  This is not the season folder page that it occurs on, but the "main level" (I have the program pointed at "SERVER\video\television").

    JackLuminous:

Clarify "series page". You mean you are looking at a bunch of season folders then you switch to large banners?

    meatrack:

    anastasis:
One problem I noticed is that when I choose large banner view on series page, it darks the images out and becomes non-responsive to remote commands.  It just stays locked in the "darked out" banner view. I can pull out my keyboard and use the mouse and it kicks back in, but for some reason it doesn't play nice with my remote.  I don't have the same problem with small banners, or large/small cover views.

I have the same issue with large banners.  Small banners work fine.

Thanks for the info. I'll try that on my end to see if I can duplicate the problem. And this happens everytime reliably?

I'll try to simulate this as well t osee what's happening when it tries to save the metadata or image

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

I appoligize if this has been covered but I could find the answer in my search....how do you change the views and the size of the thumbnails?  I'm really interested in the banner view...

    Thanks!
    JackLuminous:

Sorry to sound grumpy...for a bit there I thought it was a certain tester/analyst at work typing up that post.......it's all good. This is good feed back.

Since banner view / 2-row view kept coming up, I thought I'd stop and tackle it.  To recap:

    • we now have ImageType=Cover| Banner | Thumbnail and ImageSize=Large | Small. For small banners, it displays 5 rows, and about 3 columns. For large banners, it displays 3 rows and  2 columns.
    • JIL is implemented based on ahelseths' writeup. However, there is a 3 second delay before media center even does anything with the keypresses. There are no timers involved with triggering any keypresses or anything so I'm stumped...
    • The image for small cover views are too well, small. If I make a little bigger, the gallery gets hosed up royally. I'll come back to this issue later but wanted to let you guys know I'm aware of it.

Expect a x86 and x64 build tonight around 11 pm or so.  Tentatively, I am may add in shortcut handlers so RW toggles the image types and FF toggles the image sizes....

PS. dang, my typing/spelling/grammar is just ...ugh...

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    hotshot,

if you have the latest build posted you can hit the skip button. Unfortunately, tehre's a wierd issue where the first time you go into the gallery, you have to press it twice...it's like it doesn't recognize the press the first time in.

Anyways, when viewing a gallery of stuff, hit Skip, and you'll get a popup menu. You can change the image type and sizes from there. It will remember the selection you made.

If you like fiddling, go into the appropriate folder.xml or series.xml and change <ImageType> and/or <ImageSize>

Try the skip button and let me know how that works for you.

    Thanks,
