    Re: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

    RandyHarris:
    regarding the file-move operation.

    I should be more specific.

    I have my C: drive which the OS is on, but all my recorded tv and dvrmstoolbox activity normally takes place on my D: drive - which is a different physical drive from my C: drive. I do this 1) for storage capacity, but as important 2) because using a different drive, greatly increases my overall system speed (by not bogging down my C drive with massive gigabyte file activity.)

    What I would like to do is have the MPEG be created on my D drive like things normally are, not have it go from a dvrms on my D to an MPEG on my C, then move it back to the D again. That's a lot of disk to disk activity.

    Normally when DVRMSToolBox runs, it goes from a dvrms on my D, to a new file on my D. It's only these process condition routines that output to my C.

    Is there anyway to keep the created file on my D disk?

    Thanks.

    Is it possible that you are not doing a final render when you create the MPEG?  I don't recall the settings for the action that actually cuts the commercials out, but for the FWThrottle action there is a checkbox that says "Final Render" (or something like that).  If it is not selected, then the MPEG is written to the TempMpeg context (which would use the temp folder).  If it is selected, then it writes to the OutputFile context, which, I believe, uses the output folder.

    Re: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

    The temp folder is set to D:\temp

    Why would the file end up in my DVRMSToolBox folder on my C: drive with the Temp set to my D:\ drive?

    FWIW,  I constistantly get unindexed (unseekable, no ff/rewind) WMVs out of the convertor.  Not fixable with WM file editor either (unable to save file).

    Fresh install of MCE, using purevideo.

    It is set to my ...\DVRMSToolBox directory - which is where the mpeg ends up.

    I'm wondering what ramifications there will be from changing this. What else does that affect? If I normally just create XML files for use with Auto-Skip it probably won't do anything I'm guessing?

    Thanks,

    Randy

    the location of the xml files is a seperate setting.  the output directory is only for media outputs (mpeg, dvr-ms, wmv, etc).  if it is set to the dvrmstoolbox folder, you should change it to the location that you want to output the mpegs to.

    babgVant:

    are you using the "Fix the MCE Slider" profile?

    Yes. After I click run, the process completes, but the file is not modified, the slider is still for 3hrs, where the movie without commercials is less.

    are you running it on a file in the recorded tv folder?

    make sure it is run on files that are not in recorded tv, and that you select "incrementscheduleitem" so mce will think it's a new show and read the meta data when you move it back in.

    I was running it on a file in the recorded TV folder. Tried on a file not in that folder - now the slider increased to 6hrs long instead of getting reduced to the length of the recording. Here is what I did:

    1) moved the file out of recorded tv

    2) opened MCE so that it updates the number of recordings - the moved file was not in the list.

    3) ran the "Fix the MCE Slider" as described

    4) moved the file back to recorded tv

    5) the slider doubled, from 3hrs it became 6 hrs. the movie is 2 1/2 hours after removing the commercials.

    I am almost ready to give up unless someone guides me step by step...

    Issue

    I have ~200 30-60min shows stored on my Media Center and I've started cutting out the commercials from them.  I'm getting an error now when I try to process my video files.

    I get this in the GUI and non GUI modes.  I use this script in non GUI mode:

    I'm not sure how to tell if the error was logged by MCE or the CommericalSkip addin.  The source of the event is MsiInstaller. Will the CommercialSkip Addin specify its name in the description when it writes to the Application log?

    After I close mediacenter it opens the DVRMSToolboxSettings program. After I click on save, it closes and the following error in the application event log shows up.

    The description for Event ID ( 11001 ) in Source ( MsiInstaller ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Product: DVRMSToolbox -- Error 1001. The specified service already exists, (NULL), (NULL), (NULL).

    This is followed with another entry in the applicationlog that says Configuration failed.

    I had this same problem and struggled for many hours reinstalling .NET frameworks and whatnot, but to no avail. It finally dawned on me that I had installed the Vista-version of DVRMSToolbox (the installer has a V after the version in the filename) on an MCE 2005. Uninstalling that version, and then downloading and installing the version with no "V" in the name resulted in total success!

    I guess I have myself to blame for being so eager to click on the first install link I found in Andy's blog, but perhaps a clearer indication besides the Install-link and perhaps a vista-detector in the installer or application would help us with faster clicking than reading abilities.. :)

    where's the fun in that ;)

    I updated the post to indicate that it's the Vista version and included a link to the MCE rev.  I'll look into addin a launch condition that tests for Vista the next time I build the msi.

    Re: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

    krisku:  I did figure that out but unfortunatly I'm still unable to get the comskipper addin to work correctly in my main media center.  It writes a successful entry in the event viewer, but still doesn't work  I was able to get the plugin working on my test box though so I know that it is something with my config.  Thank you for pointing out the versions though!

    This is the entry logged after media center starts on my main machine.

    User: media
    Initialize Registry Settings, CommercialSkip Version 1.1.0.1
    NumberOfProcessors = 2
    AutoReloadSettings = True
    WriteOnMceStateChangeEvents = False
    SkipBoxMinMinutes = 0
    SkipDisplayType = Classic
    SkipMaxMinutes = 65535
    AutoSkip = True
    WriteEvents = True
    PromptScan = Prompt

    sadly that is all it will ever log. It doesn't do anything else.  I do want to thank babgVant for making this program and helping others!!  Your contribution is greatly appreciated.

    so nothing gets logged when you play a show?

    I've seen this happen when msas gets broken... have you ever installed the filewriter sample from the mce sdk?

    Yes my files are in there.  I put them in there to break up the load since I don't want to fix all the files at once.  The profile I have chosen copies them back to recorded tv.

    Re: DVRMSToolbox: Automated Commercial Detection, Skipping, and much more.

    I've never hacked anything before, and I'm having difficulty following the set-up directions. Specifically, I don't understand what I'm supposed to put for input path and file. Output, either. I need a lot of clarification. I have a new Toshiba Satellite P105-S6064, Centrino core duo, 2gb ram, usb tuner. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
