Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Hi Jack,

    The status field is below:
    <Title>House</Title>
      <NeedsMetadata>false</NeedsMetadata>
      <NeedsUserSelection>false</NeedsUserSelection>
<Status>Item is al toegevoegd. Sleutel in woordenboek: 0 Sleutel die wordt toegevoegd: 0</Status>

translation: Item is already added. Key in library: 0. Key that will be added: 0

The .providercache directory is present. In there are 2 files: actors & house.seriescache.

    Hi,

Are you going to incorporate the API of the new movie database, www.themoviedb.org?

It's in an early stage, and the API is not yet released, but it looks promising!

    Hi,

Absolutely! The same guys from movie-xml are setting up moviedb.org, I believe. I've been tracking its progress. because I'd rather use an open source provider instead of Amazon....

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

I solved the missing poster of House M.D.
Just deleted the entire .metadata directory and started the application again. It just kept on loading and loading and loading. In the meantime I saw from another computer that the .metadata directory was populating with .jpg's!

Do you think it's possible that while starting up and populating everything you show a message text that maintenance is being done. (or a new series has been found) That way I think people (like me) don't think something is wrong and press the "menu" button again so you are being stuck with only a half populated .metadata directory.... ;)

by the way: I saw that there's waaaaay more stuff in there than there is being shown in the interface. Is this preparation for the future? Like: are we going to be able to see extra pictures of the series, browse through the characters and stuff like that? The info is in there.....

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

right now for some series, people upload a crapload's worth of images (with some of them being very large). Since this keeps coming up maybe i shouldn't download all those images....maybe just a banner, poster, thumbnail/backdrop and all the seadon covers...

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Probably that's best yes....

One file will do. There is really some very good artwork in there, but I would say that's just too much.
On the other hand.... If you make a nice button which acts like some sort of picture browser you can have a nice addition to a series menu. ;)

    But choose 1 thing:
    * make sure you're downloading not too much
    * make sure that while you're downloading too much there is a meaningful text on the screen

We're looking to have the API done in the next week or so. Just been bug squashing and fine tuning the db :)

Thanks for the heads up, Travis! I do have one request: when I get search results back, can the search results include the path to the poster/cover image? Before, movie-xml forced me to have to make another server call to get the image and I don't wanna chew up the site's bandwidth if I don't need to.

Also, is the API similar to thetvdb or will it be its own thing from the ground up?

    Keep up the great work!

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    Hey man,

Yup, the backdrop endpoint will have the full URL to each of the 3 sizes of backdrop/cover image. The API is being built from the ground up but will be easy to use, no worries ;)

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

Ok, I may be asking some really stupid questions, but stick with me, I'm new to this.

I've installed v1.13 on my VMC laptop and everything went ok. At the moment I just want to try it out, so have only put the 1st season of 24 off my main PC onto the laptop. When I open up VMC Video Library is available, under Online Programs. It see's the videos, see's series one but won't download or display any data. If I look in the file there is both a metadata file and an XML. If I look at any of the metadata files, though I don't understand it all, there is definately 24 information there. In the provider cache there are loads of jpg, though they have all come across as 1x1. Any ideas what I've done wrong?

    Thanks

    EZ

Sorted my problem out -  a combination of my ad-blocker and folder structure. App works great :o)

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

Can anybody suggest how to name the Battlestar Galactica 2003 Miniseries? I've tried loads of combinations and no luck.

Re: Proof-of-concept for a tv library app for watching series in order

    HI

The Miniseries is classed as a special so create a specials folder in your battlestar folder and try naming them something like:

    Battlestar Galactica (2003) - 00x01 - Miniseries

    Battlestar Galactica (2003) - 00x02 - Miniseries Part 2

I don't have these episodes myself and the naming combination avobe is what I use for everything else. 00 is used for specials.

If you check out the tvdb.com you willl see how they have named them on there.

v 1.15 uploaded. See change log. Addition of a gallery context menu to control image sizes/types using Skip Fwd button. Consider it a work in progress.

Also, only 1 fanart and 1 poster image will be downloaded.

themoviedb.org will be incorporated as soon as they provide a public API.

    Hey Jack,

I'm not sure the level of info you're after but if you want to grab movie fanart from TMDb, you can do so now with a matched IMDb number.

    http://www.meligrove.com/forums/topic/49/themoviedborg-backdrop-api/

The backdrop API is only one of the many end points we'll have by the time we're done. Obviously, movie data is up next.
